Professional author of both fiction and non-fiction, specializing in the true crime, horror, thriller and mystery genres. I am a published author of a series of detective novels, all of which deal with increasingly harrowing subjects and themes. The reception to my work is overwhelmingly positive, something to which I attribute my deep understanding of story, structure, plot and character development. I always strive for the best in my work. I don't believe in doing something by halves. I have a great passion for anything relating to the mysterious, the unknown and the macabre. I have written countless books on unsolved mysteries, serial killers, cult leaders, occult phenomenon and infamous crimes. In addition, I have written TV scripts, video game storylines, choose-your-own-adventure books and even storylines for concept albums. I am degree-educated in criminal psychology and have a passion for anything psychology related. This particular area of interest has led me to work in vastly different areas than my usual fiction niche, such as relationship advice, articles about lie-detection and NLP, and even psychological evaluations of infamous criminals.

Need help with the pacing of your picture book text? Not sure about the reading level of your chapter book? Is your novel's structure in need of some TLC? I can help you with all of these issues and more. I love diving into a manuscript and helping to strengthen and polish it with your unique voice shining through. I'm a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association and the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. Whether you are planning to publish independently or are getting your manuscript ready to submit to agents, contact me to discuss working together. Below are the services I provide with the scope of work generally included in each. I may offer discounts when hired for more than one service, and I can always fine tune the service I deliver based on your specific needs. I can invoice based on hours worked or flat fees. I'm very flexible. This list is just to give us a starting point and enhance clarity in our communications. BETA READ I’ll give you broad feedback such as: what I liked and wanted to see more of; what I found distracting (continuity issues, etc.); where I thought the story lagged or felt rushed; characters or plot lines that need fleshing out; what might make me want (or not want) to recommend it to other readers. You’ll receive a brief feedback report, taking into account the above items as well as your intended audience. This generally does not include any corrections or specific suggestions, just an overview of the manuscript's strengths and weakness from a reader's point of view. MANUSCRIPT ASSESSMENT (aka EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT) I’ll read your manuscript closely and provide a detailed editorial report focusing on big-picture elements such as your plot, structure, characters, world-building, and craft issues, taking into account the age of your target audience and market trends. I will include some examples from your manuscript to illustrate my notes on the manuscript’s strengths and weaknesses, as well as suggestions for improvement. There are few, if any, notes within the manuscript. DEVELOPMENTAL EDIT (aka STRUCTURAL EDIT) Like a manuscript assessment, a developmental edit also gives you big-picture feedback on your manuscript, but then goes much deeper. A more extensive editorial report with specific examples from your manuscript and suggestions to help you flesh out and develop your next draft. Constructive feedback throughout every chapter of your manuscript via in-manuscript comments. Identifying where your book fits in with your target market, based on your publishing goals and potential comp titles to help pitch your book to agents or help you market it yourself. LINE EDIT More stylistic and in-depth than a copy edit, which is concerned with catching mechanical errors. A line edit is usually done before a copy edit. Each service requires a separate close reading of the manuscript focusing on entirely different questions. Line editing considers flow, word choice, passages that could read more smoothly, etc. Addresses issues such as: redundancy, confusing or unclear sections, unnatural changes in tone, pacing, etc. It is a detailed sentence-level edit. A line edit will often catch some mechanical errors in passing but isn't the same as a full copy edit. There will be notes on the pages of the manuscript. COPY EDIT Fixes things at a technical level, such as errors in punctuation and grammar. Changes are suggested on the pages of your manuscript to improve the accuracy, consistency, and flow of the text. An industry style guide (such as Chicago Manual of Style or AP Style) is used to help ensure consistency. A comprehensive style sheet is created specifically for your book to keep track of editorial decisions, spelling of places, character names, unusual terminology. A copyedit may also include some formatting and tidying up if needed, such as chapter headings, page breaks, scene breaks, and indents. A copy edit is combing through a manuscript for typos and other mistakes before it goes to print, not focusing on questions of style.
