Hello there,
Welcome to my profile! I am Apoorva – a life-long self-learner, nomad, a nascent academician, and professional, working on building my cred in the field of Economics and Data analyses. As a graduate student and research assistant, I have a good background in statistics and have been working with data, constantly trying new things, and learning novel methodologies and theories along the way. My skills encompass the complete process of data analyses: dataset generation, cleaning, visualizing, modeling, interpreting, and reporting.
So, what can I possibly offer you, that no one else can? Well as a prospective employee, I immediately can bring the following qualities to the project:
Effective Leadership and communication skills:
• At Accenture, I worked for over 2 years in Project management for a large telecommunication client based out of Singapore and Australia.
• Within a course of 1 year, I have had the opportunity to spearhead an eight-member team and ensured a smooth swivel chair process was followed and within the Service level agreement.
• Through this opportunity, I was able to showcase my leadership skills as well as my communication skills by designing an effective plan and workflow, reaching projects deadlines, and ensuring conflict resolution through effective communication.
• As a result, I was awarded ACE (Accenture Celebrates Excellence) for my dedication to my designated role.
Extensive Data management and Analyses:
• As an economics student, I am meticulous when it comes to handling data, doing research analyses, and writing – resulting in a working paper on financial inclusion in the Indian context.
• I have also worked as a research assistant in an Erasmus+ project, in which I was the point of contact for on-site surveyors and teams. My role involved collating data, literature review, collaborating with project stakeholders, and analyzing data.
• Experience with survey data, administrative data and merging datasets, and handling sensitive data related to health, demography, and finance.
Unique Growth and enriched perspective:
• After my corporate stint, I shifted my base to Istanbul, to offer my help during the height of the Syrian Refugee crisis.
• I shuffled both volunteering and freelance jobs in an unknown country- all the while trying to learn a new language and adjust to cultural change.
• I used this opportunity to grow personally and realized during this time, that I wanted to complement my undergraduate Engineering degree by pursuing an Economics graduate degree because as a volunteer, I realized that the major problems that the world faces, both at a macro and micro level has economic consequences that end up exacerbating suffering.
Versatile freelance experience:
“There is no job too small” - That is the attitude I abide by, although professionally, I have experience with project management and data analyses in academic and research settings; through my personal journey and nomadic life, I have encountered a rich and rewarding freelance experience working with clients and ex-pats through personal connections and other platforms.
• Assisted an independent consultant with SEO, article writing, and generating weekly AdWords reports.
• Market research work for a French photographer who wanted to expand her clientele. I gathered information such as an address, contact information, and email address of high-end wedding stores and other wedding-based services.
• Virtual Assistant for an Australian entrepreneur, wherein I was involved with market research, blog and email outreach.
• Education content, lesson and quiz writer for an EdTech company.
• Categorizing videos, photographs, advertisements, etc., as an internet annotator for Telus international.
Now that you have got a glimpse at my qualities and experience, here are the tools and technologies I am proficient with-

I graduated in economics in 2016. Next year I began studying for my master's degree application exam. My objective was to learn statistics and finance. So I was accepted and started my master's degree in 2018. Unfortunately, the institution I picked did not have a focus on statistics and finance. During my last semester, my frustration and problems with my advisor left me somewhat unmotived to finish my dissertation. So I went my master's degree. Since my graduation days, I have studied coding. I always thought that having the ability to gather, process, and analyze large amounts of data would be valuable in today's world. My first coding experience was with MATLAB and C/C#. MATLAB, my brother used to work with it, and I used to fiddle around to learn how to code ( did nothing special ). C/C#, I did a two-week tutorial I found online. Although I never used these two program languages later, they helped teach me some concepts in programming. While in my graduation, I started using the program languages R and Python.
R I used due to its extensive statistical packages support, and the second to its more general usability. During My master's degree, I found myself doing some paid R coding. Usually, it was simple data inference, like running some simple code to find the best linear regression model with variable permutation. Furthermore, I did have some coding experience with Python in helping some research groups in reading SQL databases and scraping online data. After I exited my master's degree, early 2020, I did freelance coding data analysis ( ex.: Inflation prediction models ), machine learning ( ex.: House prediction models in Rio de Janeiro ), and data scraping. I have a Github page with examples github.com/marcoaurelioguerrap ( Although still in Portuguese, my native language. ). If you need statistical models for prediction, inference, or data to be scraped, or organized I might be helpful. Other knowledge I have are Risk Management ( VaR, ES calculations ), stock and options market backtesting, options price models ( BS, Monte Carlo, and SABR ), test for forecast Bias, regressions ( OLS, Logit, probit, Tobit, panel data, time series, GMM, ARIMA, GARCH ).
