- Designed and developed from scratch firmware for most of HM Quickshifter UK, Ltd’s devices, including:
- 4 motorcycle-racing, data-logging, lap-timing dashboards, with reliable field-update-able firmware, which used PIC24, dsPIC33, and the last 2 used PIC32MZ microcontrollers with FreeRTOS and USB storage. 2 used LVGL for their complex-yet-intuitive color touch-screen user interfaces. All 4 used PWM-controlled LED back-lighting. Displays: 256x128 1-bpp LCD, 128x64 1-bpp LCD, 480x320 16-bpp color touch-screen, and 800x480 32-bpp color touch-screen respectively. All 4 used an O-O oriented, Design-by-Contract design approach for high reliability. (See accomplishments for 3 patent-able features of these dashboards.)
- 1 advanced data-logging Quickshifter and RPM/Limiter adopted and in current use by FIA and Moto-America Racing Series. It uses a PIC32MX microcontroller, FreeRTOS, and 11 threads. This Quickshifter is in current use in the field.
- 5 different models of motorcycle-racing Quickshifters (2 had small, 1-line LCD displays for user configuration), using various PIC microcontrollers that are in current use in the field.
- Developed custom Windows applications for several of the Quickshifters and dashboards for user configuration, recording of data logs (containing data-log history for the whole race, including throttle position, braking, suspension performance, and a host of other data), and firmware updates.
- Languages: C/Embedded, VB.NET, C#, Perl. Platforms: PIC24, dsPIC33, PIC32MX, PIC32MZ, ARM-Cortex A8, Windows.

After moving to the West Coast in 2016, and spending time in Silicon Valley, I ventured away from financial systems to innovative applications like Blockchain Protocol coding and Video Streaming/Ffmpeg. I also coded network traffic optimization software down to the fundamental layers of the TCP/IP stack. All these big data applications naturally led me into the design and coding of custom algorithms.
Whether compressing/chunking a video stream to play on a low powered mobile device, parsing network packets for suspicious traffic, or generating large NACHA files, the ability to code an algorithm in plain C can make the difference between a successful production deployment, and non-performant code that never leaves the github repo.
From my early career, I have made Database structure the centerpiece of my application design. Again, classical training in Dr. E. F. Codd’s model of Relational Databases has always informed my philosophy of how to structure an application’s data repository. With web-scale data, this field has grown to NoSQL and Graph databases. Now, huge datasets underpin the training of AI/ML models. I have kept my skills updated on these data technologies, and I combine the relevant elements of each to define the most appropriate data repository for my software.
