There is no vision so vast, intimate, or out there that it cannot be communicated perfectly with the right words.
I write for corporations that want their kids to like them and independent creators who want their parents to respect them.
With an artistic background, an eye for structure, and a compulsion for wit and lyricism, I've tended to succeed where corporate meets consumer and where independents strive for high levels of creativity and professionalism. I employ color, elegance, intelligence, humor, wordplay, a few winks, and much hard work to ensure my clients are happy.
My unique angle stems from my dual areas of expertise: on the one hand, I am a well-disciplined agency writer, comfortable delivering complex work on time and within budget; on the other, I am a musician, freelancer, and contrarian who can transition seamlessly into poetry, wit, irreverence, and pithy commentary.
Clients most often bring me in to:
—Ghostwrite memoirs and personal transformation stories that feel rich, human, and voice-driven (including for Olympic athletes, founders, and creatives).
—Write brand scripts, keynote speeches, and web copy that blend sharp messaging with emotional punch.
—Craft children’s books—sometimes rhyming, often offbeat, always memorable—with emotional clarity and playfulness.
Every project is different—but if the story matters, I’m in.
Upwork clients have said of their experience working with me (taken from my testimonials) …
—“I must say, he is nothing short of remarkable. Steve is not only incredibly talented but also an amazing human being.”
—“I have yet to ask him for help on a project that he hasn’t vastly improved the idea. He is a testament to the writing profession.”
—“Steve is a gift of a human. I'm glad to have met and worked with him. He truly has exceptional talent.”
—“Steve did a fantastic job on a challenging assignment.”
—“Usually, when I work with freelancers, the work takes weeks to months. He had it done in days and turnover in less than 24 hours. Possibly one of the best freelancers I've worked with.”
—“Steve knocked our project out of the ballpark!”
—“Steve is a brilliant, creative writer with a totally professional attitude. Working with him was sheer joy.”
And it would be my job to ensure you are equally happy.
Contacting me won’t cost you a thing. I would love to hear from you.
Reliable — creative ghostwriter — creative writing — video scripts — speech writing — branding — children's literature — rhyming books — memoirs — novels — non-fiction — coaching — structure — humor.

➤➤➤ What I Do (At a Glance)
I’ve been professionally writing, editing, researching, and consulting for over 25 years. I have the skills to complete projects such as:
✔ High-quality original writing (ex. articles, books, workbooks, long-form content, etc.)
✔ Editing at every level — developmental, substantive & line
✔ Ghostwriting from notes, drafts, or early-stage ideas
✔ Editing and refinement for non-native English writers
✔ AI-to-human editing (polishing AI drafts into clear, natural, ethical content)
✔ Modern SEO content strategy (search intent, AI overviews, human-first optimization)
✔ Content strategy & project management (planning, structure, consistency, teams)
✔ And other similar projects...
I work with authors, coaches, founders, website owners, educators, and mission-driven professionals who care about clarity, credibility, and long-term value.
❖ If you’re looking for a collaborative partner who listens, thinks strategically, and respects both your voice and your goals, I’d love to hear about your project. ❖
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❝I have no hesitation in recommending Anne. She's not the cheapest, but you definitely do get what you pay for! The quality and depth of the work delivered is very much worth paying a premium fee for. ❞
➤➤➤ Who I Am & How I Work
If you’re here, you’re probably looking for the right fit — not just someone who can write or edit, but someone who understands what you’re trying to achieve.
For the past two decades, I’ve worked as a freelance writer, editor, and content strategist, partnering with 200+ clients across books, articles, workbooks, and long-form content.
Before freelancing full-time, I spent 25 years in counseling, social services, leadership, and program development, including managing teams and building programs from the ground up. My formal education is in Counseling Psychology, with advanced graduate-level research, writing, and a completed master’s thesis.
That background matters — because strong writing isn’t just about words.
It’s about people, purpose, behavior, and communication.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❝Anne is really thorough. She takes time to understand your goals and makes sure her work supports them. She is detailed with her work but also doesn't overwhelm you with anything useless. She is able to keep things very concise and articulate them succinctly - which saves a lot of time for everyone.❞
➤➤➤ Original Content vs. AI-Assisted Content (Clear Distinction)
I offer both original writing and AI-assisted writing — and I’m very intentional about the difference.
Original writing means:
• Fully human, voice-driven content
• Built from your ideas, goals, and audience
• Ideal for books, thought leadership, and cornerstone content
AI-assisted editing and humanization means:
• Refining AI-generated drafts for clarity, tone, and accuracy
• Eliminating generic phrasing and “AI tells”
• Ensuring ethical use, originality, and brand voice
• Aligning content with modern SEO and AI overview expectations
AI is a tool; not a shortcut. Used well, it supports quality. Used poorly, it damages credibility. I help clients use it well.
➤➤➤ Editorial Expertise
As an editor, I work at every stage of the process:
• Beta Reading / Editorial Assessment — reader-focused feedback on strengths, gaps, clarity, and engagement
• Developmental / Structural Editing — organization, flow, argument, and message clarity
• Substantive Editing — content-level refinement, reduced repetition, clearer ideas
• Line & Copy Editing — sentence-level clarity, tone, rhythm, and correctness
• Proofreading — final check for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistency
I frequently work with:
• Early drafts and messy ideas
• Authors who know what they want to say but not how yet
• Non-native English writers who want natural, confident language
My process always starts the same way: with questions.
NOTE: See portfolio for detailed explanations of editing types, scope, and process.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ❝It was a great pleasure working with Anne. She was very detailed with communications and always asked questions to ensure she had all the necessary information to do the job correctly. I highly recommend Anne to anyone looking for an experienced writer focused on results.❞
➤➤➤ Strategy, SEO & Project Management
I understand modern SEO — including search intent, content structure, and how AI-generated search overviews are changing visibility. But I don’t chase trends at the expense of quality.
I help clients:
• Build content strategies that make sense long-term
• Plan and manage multi-piece projects
• Maintain consistency across writers and platforms
• Create content that serves both humans and search engines
I’ve managed projects, workflows, and teams — not just documents.
The moment I love most? When a client tells me:
❝That’s exactly what I was trying to say!❞

No AI; all work is 100% human!
I have a love for the written word and a razor-sharp eye for errors! I’m the indie author and small publisher’s best friend, because my editing is a valuable combination of copy, line, and developmental. I look at the manuscript's ENTIRE scope, the viability of the storyline as well as the writing. I also offer storyline/plot evaluations. Romance publishers, in particular, need this service to prevent spending hundreds of dollars on stories that contain implausible and inaccurate situations that render them un-publishable.
Romance is my specialty; however, I also edit nonfiction, business, and medical documents, as well as other fiction genres. I treat each client’s document as if my name were going to be publicly listed as the author. Contact me, and let's discuss what I can do for you!
Here’s a brief summary of the services I offer:
EDITING. In addition to making developmental suggestions regarding structure, pacing, plot, and characterization (the latter two for fiction), I check the entire document for typos, overused/misused/missing words, incorrect facts, inconsistencies, redundancies, contradictions, implausibilities, confusing narrative, pronoun misuse, adverb overuse, point-of-view (in fiction) errors, tense, transitions, clarity, syntax, and of course, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure.
PROOFREADING. Commonly believed to be the same as editing…it’s not. Proofreading should be done after editing is complete and before publishing or submission. This includes correcting missing or incorrect punctuation, incorrect word usage, misused homonyms, missing words, doubled words, irregular word or line spacing, inconsistencies in statements and formatting, typos, misspellings, and grammatical errors.
PLOT/STORYLINE EVALUATIONS. Are you a small publisher who has spent hundreds, or even thousands, on stories that turn out to be worthless? Let me evaluate your ghostwriter’s storyline before you pay to have it written, potentially saving you hundreds of dollars. I’ll tell you what’s wrong with it and make suggestions for resolution (or inform you that it’s hopeless). I’ll also review the first 500 words of the manuscript.
GHOSTWRITING. Anything I write for you is guaranteed to need little editing. However, I only consider ghostwriting if a) the client provides a story outline, b) there is a reasonable weekly output of 6-8k words, and c) I am paid at least 3 cents per word.
TRANSCRIPTION/TYPING. Dictated or handwritten: random thoughts/notes, correspondence, medical reports, fiction or nonfiction manuscripts, and one-on-one interviews or conversations (I do not transcribe reports with more than two speakers).
My experience:
• Professional writer for over 20 years, nonfiction (newspaper columnist) and fiction (40+ novels of romance and women's fiction published under my pen name(s), plus ghostwritten titles).
• Professional proofreader who worked for pharmaceutical giant Abbott Labs in that capacity.
• Experienced editor with an 11-year history on Upwork. Top Rated.
• Retired multispecialty medical transcriptionist; qualified to edit medical documents.
• Romance specialist. With so many published romance novels to my name, I possess a thorough understanding of the genre and know what works and what doesn't. I am a book doctor who can clean up plots that contain outlandish elements and revise them into a plot that is both engrossing and *believable.*

Struggling to find a writer who actually follows instructions, communicates clearly, and delivers clean, usable content on time? Tired of vague drafts, missed details, and endless back-and-forth? If you’re looking for a non-fiction writer who listens first, writes to your brief, and treats your project like it matters this is why you clicked on my profile.
I’m a non-fiction writer and ghostwriter who helps clients turn ideas into clear, well-structured ebooks and engaging articles. If you need content that’s easy to read, properly researched, and written exactly to your instructions, you’re in the right place.
I take communication seriously. You’ll get timely updates, honest timelines, and quick responses. I pay close attention to detail, follow briefs carefully, and treat every project with care—because your work reflects on you, and I respect that.
I’m thorough with research, structure, and editing. I also value feedback and revisions, and I’m happy to refine the work until it fits your voice and goals. Whether you’re publishing an ebook, building authority with articles, or creating content for your brand, I focus on delivering clean, original, and purposeful writing.
If you have clear instructions, I’ll follow them. If you’re still shaping your idea, I’ll help you organize it into something publish-ready. Let’s build content you’re proud to put your name on.

Top-Rated Ghostwriter and Editor - based just outside Nashville, Tennessee
I offer the following services, and variations on each of them:
Ghostwriting
Speech Writing
Developmental Editing
Copyediting
General Research
OSINT Reports
Security Reports
I specialize in nonfiction editing but have also worked with fiction, from sci-fi to historical fiction, and everything in between.
When you work with me, you get precise, professional results that meet or exceed industry standards without the bloated costs of a large agency.
Best editor on Upwork for humanizing your AI writing. Most freelancers on sites like Upwork are inexperienced, and today many are simply copying and pasting AI-generated material. If you want a real writer or a human editor, I am your man.
My combined linguistic precision and classical education allow me to produce content that is not just grammatically exact, but intellectually grounded, historically rich, and tonally perfect for academic, literary, or professional audiences, and also transfers over perfectly to deep and lore-heavy fantasy or sci-fi, and especially historical fiction.
As an experienced editor and formatter, I help writers and companies transform rough manuscripts into professional works, ready for print and eBook release, or publication.
I refine and perfect grammar, sharpen narrative flow, elevate character voices and build personalities, and on the technical end can format your interiors to meet or exceed Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, and other major platform standards.
I handle manuscripts and book interiors but not cover or interior art.
I've also worked testing and training AI systems extensively since before the first ChatGPT went public, but I do not rely on them and believe their use should be limited.
I only produce content and (some) visuals at a human level with classic tools like Word, Scrivener, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro, and then AI tools as supplemental, if at all.
With an extensive education from multiple acclaimed universities and organizations, covering history, forensics, archaeology, politics, journalism, and religious studies, and a professional background in creative writing, editing, and publishing, I bring an informed and imaginative approach to every project.
I studied through Colorado Boulder, University of Arizona, and Sapienza University of Rome, and others to a lesser extent.
I hold a Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) certificate, TESOL/TEFL certification, and maintain fluency across U.S., U.K., and Australian English standards. I am experienced in MLA, APA, Chicago, Harvard, IEEE, Bluebook, AP Style, and SCI journal formatting.
I can adapt tone, structure/formatting, and citation to meet exact regional, academic, or publishing demands.
As mentioned, I use tools like the Adobe Suite, Scrivener, Canva, Reedsy, Microsoft Office programs, and Google Docs for most projects - heavily leaning into Google Docs for the ease it provides in editing and sharing.
If you are serious about producing creative work that competes and wins in today's oversaturated market, I am the pro you need.
Let’s bring your manuscript, your book, your brand, screenplay, TV pilot, or channel to life, not just to publish, but to succeed.
