What does a Facebook Marketer do?
Facebook marketing consists of promoting a brand and growing its social media presence. So, Facebook marketers use the Facebook platform to create and distribute different types of content or Facebook posts, including text posts, link posts, or image posts—in addition to developing the overall Facebook marketing strategy. As a Facebook marketer, you will do a lot of Facebook ad optimization, because choosing the right audience is more important than anything else.
Furthermore, Facebook marketers assess available data and insights—in conjunction with search engine optimization (SEO) and analytics specialists—and develop ads strategy as an extension of communications and digital content marketing strategies. They conduct A/B testing to determine which content will perform best and report on the results of the ad campaigns weekly and monthly basis. Depending on the project, Facebook marketers may be required to manage the implementation of other digital marketing initiatives, such as retargeting and display advertising.
What skills do I need to become a Facebook Marketer?
Becoming a Facebook marketer requires a wide variety of interdisciplinary skills due to the multi-faceted nature of the role. Some skills Facebook marketers must have include:
- Hands-on experience in digital marketing, implementing digital marketing strategies, and web analytics
- Strong proficiency in Google Marketing Platform, LinkedIn ads, and Facebook Ad Manage
- Experience building and optimizing display advertising campaigns
- Knowledge of customized audience targeting based on demographics and psychographic characteristics, and full-fledged funnel targeting
- Experience using social media for brand awareness, impressions, and achieving goals
- A keen eye for detail and the ability to effectively multi-task in a deadline-driven atmosphere
- Experience with website analysis using a variety of analytics tools, including Google Analytics, as well as internal reporting tools
- Experience with search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), pay-per-click (PPC), paid media, retargeting, lead generation, and conversion rate optimization
- Public relations, marketing, sales, and community management experience
- In-depth understanding of other social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, etc.)
What are the core Facebook Marketer job responsibilities?
Some of the main Facebook marketer job responsibilities are:
- Contribute to and manage a campaign’s technical needs, pixel implementation, campaign setup, targeting, advertising creative, and campaign quality
- Work independently and proactively to lead multiple projects and prioritizing marketing efforts to ensure processes are followed and projects are completed on time and within budget
- Combine appropriate photography and compelling ad copy to create effective Facebook advertising
- Frequent campaign optimization, including ad copy and landing pages
- Run A/B tests, monitor and optimize marketing campaigns and creative assets to ensure optimal performance with target audiences and Facebook users
- Maintain and monitor keywords, account daily and monthly budgets, impression share, quality score, and other important account metrics
- Keep pace with search engine and PPC industry trends and development
- Manage and collaborate with external digital marketing agencies or freelancers to ensure the digital marketing strategies are carried out in accordance with the annual plan
- Conduct pre-campaign analysis and post-campaign analysis for campaign evaluation and optimization
Should I get a Facebook Marketer degree or certification?
There is no set background that you need to be a successful Facebook marketer. With the right combination of personal commitment and job-relevant training on Facebook marketing, the list of responsibilities above will soon start to align with your own competencies.
That being said, depending on your current experience level, you may decide to join a digital marketing bootcamp, online courses on digital marketing, or even do an internship to show your dedication to this career path as well as expand your knowledge of Facebook marketing.
