Most people enter the voting booth prepared to vote for president and unprepared for the rest of their ballot. As a result they guess, leave blanks, or stay home altogether.
We founded BallotReady because we believe it should be easy to vote informed in every race and every election. We provide free online, nonpartisan voter guides that allow people to compare the candidates on their ballots side-by-side. To do this, we have gathered information on candidates’ experience, endorsements, and stances on a number of issues, all pulled from their own websites as well as news articles and elsewhere on the web. And all of this information needs the careful eye of an experienced copy editor.
We are a hard-working, passionate team looking to continue to inform as many voters as possible this coming election. Join us in building a more informed democracy and bringing elections into the 21st century.
As a copy editor, your job is read through the candidates’ issue stances to ensure that they are as helpful to voters as possible. We want issue stances to be error-free, read clearly, and include substantial policy positions without jargon. To that end, you will be reading for essentials like spelling and grammar, conformity with BallotReady style, and “usefulness”—all fully detailed in our copy editing guide.
To apply for this position, please send us your resume and we will ask you to complete a short copy editing test.
