I'm a reading specialist with over 18 years of experience in the education field. I began my career as a 9th grade English Language Arts teacher and quickly realized I had students who could not read proficiently. At the time I was not equipped to teach them so I went to graduate school to become a reading specialist.
Not only do I have training within the Reading Specialist Program at Teachers College, Columbia University as a diagnostic practitioner but I have training in Orton-Gillingham methodology as well as training as an Educational Therapist through the National Institute for Learning Development.
Using my knowledge as a reading specialist I spent the '23-'24 academic year as a devoted decodable text author with MindPlay/LightSail writing roughly 200 decodable texts that follow a systematic scope and sequence. I have also written extensive research papers that support structured literacy referencing empirical studies, case studies and textbooks.
I spent 12 years of my career as a remedial reading teacher at Eagle Hill School in Greenwich, CT - arguably one of the best schools in the country for children with language based learning differences. My experience thus far has allowed me access to numerous systematic reading programs. My professional development for much of my career was spent learning how to analyze those programs to create my own hybrid curriculums to create individualized materials that were specific for my students and their individualized learning profile.
Over the course of my professional career as a reading specialist, I have acquired an understanding of the importance of diagnostic assessments and how necessary it is to use those assessments to develop individualized goals for student learning. Analyzing patterns of behavior in regards to how students interact with the intricate nuances of language is fundamental to my role and I am constantly analyzing how the sound symbol relationship along with syntax and semantics can greatly affect a student’s ability to learn. The goal is to help students cross the threshold of learning how to read to reading to learn. I have concluded that a masterful diagnostic reading practitioner can analyze student work and regularly adjust their instruction as the student develops as well as utilize a variety of effective instructional methods. I am constantly aspiring to help my students learn how to analyze language patterns within a text and how to ‘play’ with language so that they can efficiently and accurately comprehend the written language independently but also be challenged to the highest standard of rigor and relevance. Weaving in masterfully framed questions to students to encourage them to think critically as well as to check for understanding is also essential to their growth and perception.
In my practice of remedial reading instruction, I first and foremost seek out as much information as I can about the student I am going to instruct. It is important to understand the whole child which not only includes a child’s cognitive intelligence score, but it includes all the components that a thorough psychological evaluation provides. When equipped with this knowledge I can then begin to create a plan to meet that specific child’s needs in the area of literacy as well as executive functioning domains. Additionally, it is imperative that I seek out research-based initiatives and leading edge researchers in the field of reading and literacy so that I stay abreast of the best possible strategies and methodologies as possible. Utilizing this whole child approach and assimilating ‘science of reading’ research can not only help my students improve their reading but it also keeps me curious so that I continuously expand my pedagogy. With this in mind, my professional library consists of texts by Dr. Hollis Scarborough, Dr. Lousia Moats, Joan Sedita, and Dr. Judith Birsh, to name a few.
In closing, I have had the opportunity to instruct a wide range of learning profiles including children with dyslexia, dysgraphia as well as the countless other learning profiles that fall under the umbrella of language-based learning differences. I have worked closely in helping students develop their phonological awareness which in essence strengthened their decoding, encoding and their reading comprehension. Additionally, I have been a first hand witness to how executive functioning difficulties can often mask or inhibit a student's ability to the aforementioned skills. Ultimately, my goal is to help students master Gough & Tummer’s 1986 theory of the ‘simple view of reading’ and integrate that with researcher Dr. Hollis Scarborough’s metaphor of the reading rope (2001). My approach is to help students learn the skills needed to read the words on the page but to also help them think metacognitively about their own learning.

I have worked for a publishing company as an editor. Working as an editor has fallen into different umbrellas for me. Sometimes a project would require developmental editing, providing feedback or just proofreading. I have also participated in beta reading project. I have a fast turnaround time and I proofread and provide feedback at the end of a manuscript, but willing to prioritise whatever the author is looking for. I am not a ghostwriter, I think it is important to keep the authors voice by providing feedback to make their work the best it can be without rewriting their work and making it my own. I also don't format manuscripts for publication.

I am a published writer of short-form horror and supernatural fiction. I self-published my debut novel in October 2025 to positive reviews and sales.
I have a keen ear and eye for dialogue, tone, storytelling and stylistic touches.
My background in education (both UK secondary and university) has given me deep experience of providing constructive and careful feedback. I will typically provide written feedback as in-text comments with accompanying summaries, if necessary. I have a very adaptable style which allows me to view each project as its own distinct entity and means I won't apply my own style to your work -- rather I will enhance your voice as an author.
I can also provide work to support with evaluating and strengthening AI chatbot models as well as support with writing CVs, cover letters and preparing for job interviews.
