For the past seven years, I've worked with researchers, academics, healthcare professionals, businesses, government organisations, startups, and authors to produce high-quality written content. My experience includes editing and proofreading journal manuscripts, dissertations, theses, systematic reviews, literature reviews, grant applications, medical device documentation, regulatory documents, capability statements, government tenders, business proposals, technical reports, books, KDP manuscripts, nonfiction publications, website content, blog articles, SEO content, white papers, policy documents, training materials, and professional correspondence.
As a published author in peer-reviewed journals and a PhD researcher in Medical Sciences, I understand the level of accuracy, clarity, and attention to detail expected in academic, scientific, and medical writing. I have experience working with medical literature, clinical research documents, medical device submissions, scientific manuscripts, healthcare content, genetics, public health, and evidence-based research, while also editing commercial and business documents where readability and professionalism are equally important.
My editing goes beyond correcting grammar and punctuation. I improve structure, strengthen flow, refine language, eliminate inconsistencies, fact-check where appropriate, format references, and ensure every document communicates its message effectively while preserving your voice. I work confidently with APA, MLA, Harvard, Vancouver, and Chicago referencing styles, as well as both British and American English.
Whether your project involves academic editing, medical writing, scientific research, book editing, Amazon KDP publishing, developmental editing, copy editing, proofreading, formatting, or publication preparation, my goal is to deliver work that is clear, accurate, polished, and ready for submission, publication, or presentation.
In addition to editing and proofreading, I can assist with Microsoft Word formatting, tracked changes, reference management, tables and figures, document layout, Canva designs, Adobe Acrobat PDF editing, presentation formatting, and publication-ready files for journals, conferences, and Amazon KDP. I pride myself on responsive communication, fast turnaround times, and consistently delivering work that exceeds expectations.
If you're looking for someone who can confidently handle everything from a single-page business proposal to a 100,000-word manuscript or a complex medical research project, I'd love to discuss how I can help.
Looking forward to working with you.
Best,
Arshi

I. EDITING/WRITING, academic and technical
II. QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS in R & MS Excel
III. TIPS FOR PROSPECTIVE CLIENTS
I. EDITING/WRITING
I combine graduate-level mathematical knowledge with excellent writing skills. Prior to earning a Ph.D. in Decision Sciences and an MBA, I was awarded graduate and undergraduate degrees in English literature and worked as an editor of technical materials. I specialize in academic writing/editing, particularly for quantitative subjects, and am a published author in peer-reviewed journals.
I can and have edited many types of documents: policies and procedures, theses and dissertations (many for ESL students), white papers, reports, papers targeted at academic journals. Books I've edited that are currently for sale on Amazon include the following:
Mike Barrett, "SAT Math 2 Prep Black Book"
Phil Champagne, "The Book of Satoshi: The Collected Writings of Bitcoin Creator Satoshi Nakamoto"
Mukesh Prasad, "From Light to Eternity"
Ronald J. Ryan, "The U.S. Pension Crisis"
Jon Warner, Business Optimization: A Simple and Effective Approach for Achieving Ongoing Business Success
D. K. Willardson, "Quantitative Hitting: Surprising Discoveries of the Game’s Best Hitters"
Anna Wozniak, "The Demon That Occupied Wall Street: How Social Thinkers Deceived Human Mind"
My Editing Methodology:
If you are seeking someone to edit your 30,000-word thesis in 2 hours for $40, please look elsewhere. A typical edit for me is as follows:
1) A paragraph-level read that usually proceeds at a rate of about 1,000 words/hour. Here I correct/modify grammar, spelling, and some formatting. This rate may be much lower for exacting editing such as papers targeted at academic journals and personal statements written in support of job applications.
2) A higher level reading to not only catch anything I missed in my first reading but also to check the document for flow, clarity, and internal consistency.
3) A spelling and grammar check through MS Word.
4) A final look for orphan headings or anything else that could have gone wrong.
I am expert in MS Word and can style headings and tables, figures, and equations so that Word can generate a table of contents and lists of tables, figures, and equations, respectively. I can style headings according to a particular format (i.e., APA 7th ed.). For mathematical or statistical material, I can generate graphics through either R's basic plotting functions or the ggplot2 package or through MS Excel. I am an intermediate user of LaTeX (Overleaf) and rMarkdow
A further service is reference citation and bibliography. I prefer to use a source-management software such as EndNote or Mendeley, which will generate a bibliography automatically.
If you should have any questions concerning your particular document, please do not hesitate to ask. I offer small, complimentary sample edits.
Lastly, I do not do homework or work for students, although I do provide advice within the limits of editing work--pointing out what I see as flaws or gaps in logic of a document I'm editing. Aside from its being academically dishonest, it places a great deal of responsibility on me. What if I were to do the work and then the work earned an F? I appreciate your understanding with respect to this.
II. QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS
I am proficient in R and C++. I've had extensive classroom and work experience performing various types of quantitative analyses and currently use R and MS Excel for analysis. I'm particularly adept at logistic regression.
III. TIPS FOR PROSPECTIVE CLIENTS
1. Upon payment of their monthly fee to Upwork, freelancers are given 100 connects with which to apply for jobs. In the past, jobs typically cost 3-5 connects to apply for. However, the cost in connects has been increasing over the last couple of years, and the latest I've seen is 31 connects! Based on this, a freelancer would only be able to apply for 3 jobs per month without purchasing additional connects.
A job poster who charges, for instance, 31 connects for a job that will pay a fixed price of only $15 (of which the freelancer will only receive 85% or $12.75) may not get much attention, particularly from well-qualified freelancers. One possibility is to issue invitations to qualified freelancers, who will then pay nothing in connects to apply for your job. I konw that I am not applying for jobs I would have in the past because of their excessive cost. Therefore, you are missing out on qualified freelancers due to connect inflation.
2. Give complete details on your job--whether it's editing a fiction or nonfiction book, for instance.
3. If you are seeking to hire a new freelancer but have already hired someone that did not work out. your job description will show that you've hired someone. As a consequence, a freelancer may not risk spending connects to apply for your job, thinking it's already been filled. THEREFORE, MAKE CLEAR THAT YOU ARE SEEKING A NEW HIRE IN YOUR JOB DESCRIPTION.

I help authors and graduate students transform drafts into polished, publication-ready manuscripts. Whether you're revising a novel, memoir, poetry collection, or dissertation, I provide thoughtful, detail-oriented editing that strengthens clarity, structure, and readability while preserving your voice and story.
𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 & 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞
I own and run my own editing company, Sidewalk Editorial Services, and have edited 100+ books and 30+ dissertations.
My background includes over fifteen years in higher education (program management, instruction, and advising) and proofreading for the University of Washington. I hold a B.A. in English Language & Literature, an M.Ed. in Learning Sciences & Human Development, and have completed a creative writing program at Stanford. I participate in professional development through the Editorial Freelancers Association, the Northwest Editors Guild, and ClubEd Freelancers. I also publish my own poetry.
𝐄𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬
What does your manuscript need? I can help you determine where we should start:
• Developmental Editing and Manuscript Assessments: Big-picture feedback on structure, organization, pacing, character development, argument clarity, and content accuracy
• Line + Copyediting: Sentence-level refinement to enhance voice, flow, clarity, and emotional resonance, plus the technical corrections of copyediting
• Copyediting: Grammar and syntax corrections for consistency and technical accuracy using the Chicago Manual of Style
• Proofreading: Final polish and error detection before submission or publication
• APA 7 Support: Consistency of references and in-text citations in APA style for dissertations
𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴
Across genres, I specialize in manuscripts addressing themes of trauma, healing, identity, healthcare, family systems and relationships, social issues, aging, chronic illness, grief, education, and life transitions. My favorite types of manuscripts to edit include:
• Fiction: Literary fiction, romance, suspense, fantasy, sci-fi, thrillers, YA, and historical fiction
• Nonfiction: Self-help, mental health, business, education, parenting, healthcare, and history
• Memoirs, personal narratives, and legacy books
• Children's picture books and workbooks
• Poetry collections
My clients include indie authors, physicians, business leaders, poets, entrepreneurs, small business owners, publishers, research centers, teachers, and ghostwriters—all of whom want a skilled eye on their manuscripts.
𝗗𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴
Graduate students—if you’re nearing the finish line with your dissertation or thesis and need copyediting and APA 7 formatting to finalize your manuscript, I’d love to assist. I've copyedited dissertations for dozens of doctoral students at institutions including Stanford University, UC Berkeley, USC, Smith College, Delaware Valley University, and University of Washington.
In addition to copyediting, I review citations, references, headings, tables, figures, block quotes, tables of contents, and other manuscript elements to ensure compliance with APA 7 and institutional formatting requirements. I identify discrepancies between in-text citations and reference entries and work with you to standardize them. Using track changes in Word, I help you successfully submit a polished, committee-ready manuscript.
I typically work with one active dissertation client at a time so I can focus on the specific requirements of your institution and prioritize quick turnaround.
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁?
Send me a message! Every project begins with a review of your manuscript and goals. From there, I'll recommend an editing plan, timeline, and budget tailored to your needs. I look forward to collaborating with you.

I am one of the few freelancers on this platform who can walk out of an ICU, write a peer-reviewed literature review, and design a SCORM-compliant e-learning module, all at the highest professional level.
10+ Years at the Bedside. 3 Graduate Degrees. Hundreds of Deliverables Completed.
REGISTERED NURSE · PhD IN PSYCHOLOGY · MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH · INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNER · MEDICAL & ACADEMIC WRITER
This is not a combination you find often. And it is exactly what sets every deliverable I produce apart. If clinical accuracy, academic rigor, and professional quality matter to your project, you are in the right place.
I specialize in medical writing, academic writing, instructional design, and curriculum development for healthcare organizations, nursing schools, universities, publishers, and e-learning companies. Every deliverable I produce is grounded in real clinical experience and backed by graduate-level research skills. My work spans medical and health content development, academic writing, manuscript writing, research and thesis support, case study writing, systematic literature reviews, research publications, academic proofreading and editing, and instructional materials design.
I have written and developed hundreds of NCLEX-style questions, critical care scenarios, CEU modules, exam banks, course modules, and full curricula for nursing and allied health programs. I also bring years of experience as a research writer, dissertation editor, thesis editor, academic proofreader, and academic specialist, helping students, educators, and professionals produce polished scholarly work that meets university, clinical, and publication standards.
My clinical foundation includes perioperative and critical care experience across PACU, pre-op, post-op, ICU, OB, Labor and Delivery, and Pulmonary Stepdown, supported by certifications in ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, and NIH Stroke Scale, with ongoing CEUs in critical care, airway management, hemodynamics, and anesthesia concepts. This background lets me produce health and medical writing that is not only academically sound but clinically relevant, practical, and current.
Medical Billing and Coding
During my hospital nursing career, I worked directly with medical billing teams to ensure clinical documentation supported accurate UB-04 institutional claims. This involved ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, DRG assignments, revenue code verification, and resolving discrepancies between clinical documentation and submitted claims in compliance with Medicare and Medicaid requirements.
HIPAA and Compliance
My HIPAA experience is hands-on. Throughout my nursing career, I handled Protected Health Information daily, documented in compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules, and managed proper PHI handling during interdisciplinary rounds, patient handoffs, and family communications. I have applied this experience to writing compliance training content for healthcare staff, including scenario-based modules that reflect how privacy issues actually occur in clinical settings.
In the academic space, I provide proofreading and editing, developmental editing, content restructuring, and formatting support using APA 7 and other academic styles. My research workflow includes critical appraisal and evidence synthesis using JBI, CASP, and PRISMA frameworks, ensuring every manuscript, thesis, SLR, or case study is well-structured and grounded in credible sources.
As an instructional designer and curriculum developer, I create outcome-based learning experiences using ADDIE, Bloom's Taxonomy, and Gagné's Nine Events.
My services include curriculum development, course content writing, instructional design, assessment development, eLearning content creation, LMS-ready module development, simulation design, and learner-centered academic content for nursing, allied health, and healthcare education.
My technical skills include Canva, Moodle, Blackboard, Thinkific, Teachable, Google Suite, EndNote, Zotero, APA formatting, and eLearning authoring tools including Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate.

Most writers know exactly what they want to say, but on the page, their message does not always land the way they intend. As a copy editor and proofreading specialist, I bridge that gap. I read your drafts like your ideal reader, checking whether your writing truly communicates your ideas and flagging any structural issues that get in the way. Then I refine your text for clarity, grammar, coherence, and flow so your arguments are sharper, your tone is consistent, and your content is ready to publish.
The other problem is more related to academics. All researchers/academics are so focused on their research projects and writing and disseminating their ideas that they do not get the time to acquire necessary skills to format their research according to standard manuals (for example, APA, Chicago, MLA, Turabian (for history), Harvard, or IEEE). While you draft your ideas, I am here to help you get through the formatting process of your research manuscripts using Latex (overleaf) and MS Word. I provide academic copy editing, which includes refining your manuscripts through developmental and line editing and then formatting them according to the standard citation manual.
Moreover, I am not only an expert copy editor and academic proofreader, but I am also a specialist in proofreading and editing Statement of Purpose, Motivation Letters, Statement of Objectves, and Research Proposals for admissions in higher education institutes. Due to personal experience and helping clients (outside of upwork) I have gained hand-on experience about what admission committees look for in SOPs, Motivation Letters, or Research Proposal. In 2025, I was admitted to the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, the University of Auckland (New Zealand), and HSE St. Petersburg. If you are struggling with crafting an SOP or Motivation Letter that grabs the attention of admission committees, let me take that burden off of your shoulders.
What makes me fit for copyediting or proofreading your manuscripts to refine their argument and formatting, fixing citations, and drafting/editing your SOP or proofreading your motivation letter is:
I am a certified proofreader and academic editor from the University of California, with 5+ years of experience in researching and writing coupled with 3+ years in the proofreading and copy editing industry and 300+ projects completed (on and off Upwork). I transform your manuscript, thesis, research paper/proposal, Statement of Purposes, Motivation Letters with precise editing to convey your intended message to your readers. I also refine manuscripts for flawless citations and design and format them into standard academic writing manuals.
Furthermore, I can edit any academic writing across disciplines, including Arts and Humanities or social sciences, philosophy, political science, and current affairs, or related fields. However, as a trained historian, I prefer to edit topics related to history.
If you are struggling with any of the issues/problems mentioned above, then you are at the right place.
Ready to have your academic work evaluated for feedback with my proofreading skills, or get it refined with my editing/copyediting skills?
- I am a full-time researcher and a certified copy editor and proofreader from the University of California. I have worked as a Teaching Assistant for "Expository Writing 101" and have experience editing theses, research papers, and academic essays. I am also a certified LaTeX expert, coupled with MS Word-vetted skills, with 5 years of academic experience and 4 years of helping clients improve and format their manuscripts. -
Send me a message, and let’s get started! I am here to get you through your hectic writing process.

How to Hire Top Academic Proofreading Specialists
How to hire academic proofreading specialists
Academic proofreaders can help you check your work for spelling, grammar, and typographical errors while ensuring your sources are properly cited in accordance with academic style guides such as that of the APA (American Psychological Association).
So how do you hire academic proofreading specialists? What follows are some tips for finding top academic proofreading consultants on Upwork.
How to shortlist academic proofreading professionals
As you’re browsing available academic proofreading consultants, it can be helpful to develop a shortlist of the professionals you may want to interview. You can screen profiles on criteria such as:
Industry fit. You want an academic proofreading specialist who understands the formatting requirements and terminology of your industry.
Project experience. Screen candidate profiles for specific skills and experience (e.g., proofreading medical studies).
Feedback Check reviews from past clients for glowing testimonials or red flags that can tell you what it’s like to work with a particular academic proofreading specialist.
How to write an effective academic proofreading job post
With a clear picture of your ideal academic proofreading specialist in mind, it’s time to write that job post. Although you don’t need a full job description as you would when hiring an employee, aim to provide enough detail for a contractor to know if they’re the right fit for the project.
An effective academic proofreading job post should include:
Scope of work: From basic proofreading to structural editing, list all the deliverables you’ll need.
Project length: Your job post should indicate whether this is a smaller or larger project.
Background: If you prefer experience with certain industries or style guides, mention this here.
Budget: Set a budget and note your preference for hourly rates vs. fixed-price contracts.

Why hire academic proofreading specialists?
The trick to finding top academic proofreading specialists is to identify your needs. Is your goal to have someone do a quick check for punctuation, spelling, and grammar? Or do you also require a structural edit for cohesion and coherence? The cost of your project will depend largely on your scope of work and the specific skills needed to bring your project to life.

How much does it cost to hire an academic proofreading specialist?
Rates can vary due to many factors, including expertise and experience, location, and market conditions.
An experienced academic proofreading specialist may command higher fees but also work faster, have more-specialized areas of expertise, and deliver higher-quality work.
A contractor who is still in the process of building a client base may price their academic proofreading services more competitively.
