Don't let my location fool you. I'm an American expat living a wonderful life in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, but my language skills are firmly routed in American English. I find writing and editing on my laptop at a private deserted beach the perfect environment for my creativity and concentration. My freelance work focuses primarily on two areas: (1) complete editing and formatting services for both fiction and non-fiction books and (2) writing fiction and non-fiction, with a particular interest in ghostwriting autobiographies. As an editor, I love the process of starting with a critical read of a book and capturing its developmental needs and then moving on to the more technical side of the structure, grammar, and extensive proofreading. Finally, as with any jewel that has been cut, I do a final polish to make it perfect. I have clients all over the world, from Sweden, Italy, Japan, the UK, Australia, and, yes, the United States. I edit and write in American, British, and Australian English and totally understand the differences in grammar, usage, and slang. I also am skilled at working with authors whose native language is NOT English and have translated their work but need additional editing to make it sound more natural. Although I may be a relative “newbie” to Upwork, I have over 15 years of experience as a professional writer, editor & proofreader. I promise you complete accuracy, timely delivery, and a critical editing eye. My writing partners find my honesty and communication skills key to a great collaboration. My current and recent writing and editing projects include a Netflix Biopic about a notorious London entrepreneur, a political satire novel, a murder mystery novel, several articles for CNN and USA Today, two novels in the fantasy genre, an economic dissertation, a Tolkien type fantasy by a Swedish author. With over fifteen years in the industry, my clientele often commend my unwavering honesty and effective communication. My portfolio? It's as diverse as a CEO's perspective on design, a wanderlust-filled memoir of Latin America, to sci-fi adventures in distant galaxies. The stories I cherish the most? Ghostwriting for a U.S. Senator, recounting the life of a WWII refugee turned successful entrepreneur, and weaving a transformative self-help manuscript on being your best self. "My only regret in having James ghostwrite my biography is that I couldn't give him credit for it -- it has been a huge success for me"... Richard P. "As my editor, he took my fledgling novel and polished it into a diamond now in my very happy publisher's hands." ... Tony G. Contact me today. The best way to start any writing project is for me to have the chance to chat with you before we even begin. I would love an opportunity to show you how I can meet and surpass the needs of this opportunity.Memoir Writing

***Owner of Ink Worthy Books, a full-service editorial and publication company providing cover-to-cover services and support to self-publishing authors of soulful nonfiction.*** This is my passion, my heart’s work, and what makes me a happy camper. It is not merely my “job.” With more than thirteen years of writing, editing, and publishing experience, I have built my business around helping self-motivated writers take their ideas all the way to publication and beyond. At Ink Worthy Books, we believe that every book has the power to change the world. As a trained nonfiction book coach and developmental editor, I lead a group of skilled professionals who specialize in book editing, design, and marketing. This means that we can support an author’s entire project without risking quality due to the overworked eyeballs of one professional. This approach to self-publishing support saves you hours of searching for skilled pros in the world of one-and-done freelance giggers and alleviates the stress of managing all the details which go into publishing a book. In addition to an array of community and coaching support options, IWB’s hands-on services fall into five categories: Evaluate - Not certain what your story needs? We offer (free!) creative consult calls along with manuscript reviews to help you determine the best next step. This process saves writers both time and money because they leave with a clear idea of how to move their project forward and without having to guess. Edit - We offer three types of editing, depending on the project’s need: developmental editing, line editing, and copy editing. Because these terms are sometimes used inconsistently in the industry, we will discuss your book’s needs in detail to ensure you are confident in what type of editing support you will be receiving. Design - Our design team creates the high quality cover and interior files for all written formats (ebook, soft cover, and hardcover), all to the specification of the particular platform the writer is publishing on. This process also includes a final proofread, which ensures your book shines prior to publishing. Publication Prep - The Ink Worthy Books team helps self-publishing authors manage ALL the loose ends that need attention to prepare to publish their book: writing your author bio, crafting the back cover description and Amazon description, pricing and ISBN support, author website creation, optimization of the book’s Amazon profile, and much more! Rest assured, we can help with every step of the way! Marketing - We support writers in creating a marketing and promotion plan and materials to promote their book both leading up to and following publication. If you are looking for a line or copy edit of your manuscript draft, please see my specialized profiles for more details on how I can help! I look forward to connecting with you soon! "It was a pleasure working with David. I highly recommend David for your project needs." As an award-winning and top-rated writer and editor, I have been working consistently, independently, and professionally now for over three decades as a freelance ghostwriter. From memoir to historical fiction, romance and novels pertaining to Americana, to cultural conflicts, whistleblower books, articles and bios about the people who contribute to society in meaningful ways - all the way to the heroes and villains who are our public servants and all of those in between, I have become adept at structuring universally-appealing and highly successful manuscripts. Writing has been my passion and livelihood for over 35 years. During this time, I have also helped other writers by proofreading, enhancing, advising, and editing their works. I hold a B.A. from New York University and a Masters Degree in Education from Penn State University, and was a University Honors Scholar with specialties in human development, the Great Books of Western Culture, persuasive writing, Freudian Psychology, cultural affairs, and theatrical play writing. My work as a family therapist for twenty years has helped me to understand families in a way most writers cannot. I have a knack for capturing the collective meaning behind ordinary lives while making the simplest of scenes my most remarkable. Please see the reviews of my work here on Upwork, which frequently call to mind my innate ability to effortlessly structure universally appealing themes, events, and characters. Finding success early on way back when I was getting my bachelor's degree, I quickly earned a reputation for producing great and epic family dramas, engaging romance, memoirs which took a life well-lived and turned it into a hero’s journey, historical fiction from vast periods across the globe, slices of Americana, many times involving ordinary characters finding themselves in extraordinary circumstances. As a ghostwriter, my published works include more than fourteen memoirs, eight romance, five historical dramas, and eight crime-dramas/legal thrillers. I use a flexible writing style which incorporates a variety of the finest techniques. My writing becomes powerfully persuasive and magnetic by drawing the reader into the world we will create. Depending upon the type of project, I always keep the writing interesting and moving, while utilizing the best and most efficient resources. Not only a writer; I am a firm editor and also writing coach. With memoirs, phone calls at first with my client are a good way to communicate until we both feel we have discussed the project with clarity. At that time, documents, transcripts and/or audio files will supplement our calls and would be the remainder of what I would need! Besides being a ghostwriter, I have also worked professionally as a project manager and have supervised and spearheaded, utilizing professional editors and writers, manuscripts of fiction, social sciences, church history, art, research and development, social ills, autobiography, short story collections, cultural affairs, and Americana. Among my most recent successes was a memoir which remained on the best-seller list for months on Amazon about a boy escaping Communist terrorism with his family only to come to America, and later be drafted to fight Communists in Vietnam. An ordinary citizen rising up in an epic fight for freedom against colonization at the hands of an imperialistic nation became a best-selling historical fiction. A highly-awarded American success story dealt with a young woman overcoming poverty, cyclical familial abuse, and addiction, who eventually finds the man of her dreams and turns her life around, rising to being CEO of a multinational company. Some of my other recently successful books are a dystopian fantasy love story wherein the heroine overcomes prejudice and a controlling family in order to lead a band of warriors to defeat an evil empire. My last two ghostwritten books have gotten great reviews and are best-sellers on both Amazon and Barnes and Noble. David "David came to the rescue when I was standing at the crossroads with my novel. At that time, my subplot was not meshing as it should. I researched literally dozens of ghostwriters until I came across David, who had glowing reviews and exceptional credentials. Later, I discovered the secret to his success was not only a stellar background, but his most important quality was that he is a "problem solver." I have discovered that he is able to bring his expertise to the table in many genres. He was able to proofread my novel to see what else needed to be eliminated and added, and then discussed with me several directions we could take with the scenes in question. David is definitely someone you want to have writing your book! Many thanks to him for helping to make my novel so wonderfully complex." :) - KyleMemoir Writing

I want to help you complete your writing project and produce a book that sells brilliantly. Whether that's writing a whole book from scratch, re-writing what others have done and fallen short, or editing and providing advice on the structure and content of your book. I've worked with fiction and non-fiction and across many genres: historical fiction, modern romance, historical romance, mystery, teen-mystery, thrillers, cosy mysteries, how to and guide books (gardening, slang, beekeeping, neurodiversity, adulthood, work issues and business) and lots of memoirs where I love getting into the life and creating moods and themes which will really move you. I have the experience and skills to solve the problems you're facing. These are the reasons why I feel I can support you: 1. Versatility - I've written many fiction and non-fiction books, also memoirs. I can adapt to almost every style of writing. 2. Research - with a degree in history and a lifelong love of the subject, research is a joy. I can build the story or the body of information that you need, quickly and efficiently. 3. Skills - I've written dozens of books and published nine of them in my own name. I've sent my books off to editing and I've edited other people's. I've made mistakes and seen the mistakes of others. I've learnt that having the ability to restructure a story or a piece of non-fiction is essential. That's the way you make the biggest impact with the reader. 4. Dependability - I might write about characters who let the side down but I strive very hard not ever to do that myself. It's about organisation and it's about work ethic. I won't let you down short of a major disaster. 5. Communication and Responsiveness- both these are vital to a successful project. I won't get it dead right first time but I will listen and turn the work around. The ability to listen is one of the key things I offer in presenting my stall. I hope you will use me for your next project because I want to help you with it.Memoir Writing
