Many writers reach a stage where they want to step back and see their manuscript the way a reader will experience it. That’s where thoughtful reader insight makes a difference. Through deep beta reading and developmental-level feedback for fiction and memoir, I help authors see their manuscript through a reader’s eyes—highlighting the strengths already on the page and areas that could be further developed. My feedback focuses on the full reading experience: pacing, character engagement, emotional impact, clarity of stakes, timeline consistency, and story structure. My training in language studies and counseling also shapes my approach, combining attention to clear writing with insight into character motivation and emotional dynamics. What I Can Help With Alongside beta reading, I also provide developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading, helping authors refine both the big-picture structure of their work and the line-level clarity that keeps readers engaged. I regularly work with: • Mystery / Thriller • Cozy Mystery • Romance • Character-Driven/Plot-Driven Fiction • Memoir & Narrative Nonfiction What You’ll Receive When working with me, authors typically receive: • A detailed reader report highlighting strengths and opportunities • Feedback on story structure, pacing, and character development • Notes on clarity, timeline consistency, and reader engagement • In-line comments throughout the manuscript when helpful • Practical suggestions for next steps in revision My goal is always to provide feedback that is honest, clear, and encouraging, while helping you strengthen the story you want to tell. Projects may be hourly or fixed-price depending on the scope. Many beta reads and manuscript reviews are quoted as a flat project fee. Authors often come to me when: • The manuscript feels close, but something isn’t quite working yet • The pacing slows in the middle of the story • Characters feel flat or their motivations need strengthening • The timeline or sequence of events is confusing • They want honest reader insight before moving to the next stage of editing If that sounds like where you are in your manuscript, I’d be glad to take a look. What Clients Say Authors I’ve worked with often mention: • Clear and organized feedback that’s easy to apply • Insight into pacing, character motivation, and story flow • Encouragement alongside practical suggestions • Professional communication and early delivery If you’re looking for thoughtful reader insight or developmental feedback on your manuscript, I’d be glad to learn more about your project.

Not a dig, just a fact. You finished your chapter at midnight. Read it back. Felt good about it. 😌 Then you read it again the next morning and found three typos, a sentence that says the opposite of what you meant, and a paragraph that made perfect sense in your head but loses the reader halfway through. And that's just the stuff you caught. Fresh eyes find what tired ones miss. Hire me for a test run on your first 500 words. Money back if you don't love what I do.👀 ✏️📖HERE'S THE THING ABOUT FICTION A misplaced comma won't ruin your story. But a sentence that accidentally says the opposite of what you meant? A paragraph that made total sense in your head but loses the reader halfway through? Yeah, that stuff matters. And it's almost impossible to catch in your own writing. I'm a lifelong reader and a total fiction nerd. I've written my own stories, so I get how much of yourself goes into this. And for years I've been the person friends and classmates hand their writing to before anyone else sees it, because they know I'll be honest without being mean about it. 😅 That's exactly what I bring to your manuscript. 🛠WHAT I CAN HELP YOU WITH Proofreading 🔍 : catching grammar, spelling, punctuation, and all those sneaky typos before your work goes out into the world Copyediting ✂️ : cleaning up sentence flow, word choice, and consistency so everything reads smoothly from page one to the end Line editing 🎯 : looking at how your sentences and paragraphs work together so your story actually keeps people turning pages I track changes with comments so you understand WHY I'm suggesting each edit. And I always flag the lines and moments that are working beautifully 💖. Knowing what's STRONG is just as useful as knowing what needs fixing. 🌱WHY WORK WITH SOMEONE NEW TO UPWORK I'll be straight with you. I have a genuine eye for detail, a deep respect for what it takes to actually finish writing a book, and a real reason to care about your project going well. My reputation here starts with YOU, which means you're going to get more attention from me than you might from someone juggling twenty clients and a thousand reviews. 🙌 I'm not the safe, obvious pick. I'm the one who'll actually show you what I can do before you spend a single dollar. 🎯 WHO I WORK BEST WITH → Fiction writers working on their first novel who want a careful, encouraging editor → Self-published authors who want professional-level editing without the agency price tag → Writers who've been revising the same chapter for weeks and need fresh perspective → Anyone who wants honest feedback delivered with respect. LET'S START SMALL 👇✨ Send me your first 500 words. No payment, no pressure, no awkward sales pitch. If you like what I do with it, we'll talk about the rest. If not, you don't pay. Either way, your writing comes out better than it went in. 😊

Please read completely as many common questions are answered here. Born and raised in Ohio, I am a native English speaker and have a BA in English from Kent State University. For five years, I taught language, reading, and honors creative writing to junior and senior high students, writing my own drama and creative writing curriculum. Over the course of my career, I have released nearly a dozen YA novels, short story collections, a collection of plays, a cookbook, and a book on writing. I have worked as a freelance writer / ghostwriter in both non-fiction and fiction capacities, writing everything from captions and copy to short stories and novels in myriad genres. While my forte is fiction, I do accept non-fiction work. I've created characters and outlines, as well as writing from a provided outline, and can work with as much or as little as the client wishes. All work is 100% original, meaning that unless otherwise instructed by a client, I do not outsource work to other freelancers and I do not use generative AI programs. None of my writing, including any provided samples, were assisted or created by AI. Much of my work as a ghostwriter has made Amazon's top 100 ebook lists at least once, and I have had more than one make USA Weekend's Bestseller list. I have been freelancing since 2002 and have been writing full-time since December 2012. As I sign NDAs with all of my clients and while some do give permission for me to use parts of that work as writing samples, I cannot provide full chapters of any work I have done for clients. I can only provide chapters from my own work, which is all YA. I do not write samples over 500 words on request without payment. I require all communication to be through a messaging platform, which means no phone or Zoom interviews, though I am happy to set a time for an Upwork message chat interview. My current Upwork hourly rate is $40/hr and my current Upwork per word rate is $0.06/word. This is based on my experience and what my current clients are paying. Outlining, story development, and revision options vary for per word / fixed rate work and are not provided without additional compensation. I work on a first-come, first-serve basis, and that comes by contract, not discussion. I can advise what my schedule looks like at any given time, but until a contract is signed and a project accepted, that may change. I do not accept any work that promotes / portrays any of the following in a positive manner: homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, racism, hatred, or blasphemy of any religion.

My love of prose and fictional worlds led me to study for a bachelor's Degree in English and Writing, followed by a Master's Degree in Creative Writing. I chose to be a freelance writer because I enjoy using my skills to create quality work for my clients, whether this is writing outlines or bringing fictional ideas to life. Regardless of what the project consists of, I value how important words are and how, when used correctly, they hold the power to leave an imprint. I have plenty of experience in creating new places, people, and events, as I’ve worked on projects from short stories to an ongoing book series, from children’s fiction to stories for adults, and from science fiction to thrillers. Whether you need assistance with your story arc, character development, the creation of your story, or you’re just after someone to glance over your work and advise, then I can assist with this. My fascination with creating new worlds and my intrigue with all things dystopia have led me to write three young adult science fiction novels. To me writing isn’t just work, it’s also my passion, hobby, and purpose. I reside in the UK but am proficient at writing in both British English and American English. Above all else, I’m professional, friendly, quick to respond, and full of creative ideas that I want to unleash.

Ghostwriting Writing is my passion and it shows in my writing. A freelance writer since 2007, I embarked on ghostwriting romance novels in 2014. Since that time I’ve written over two million words for my clients about sexy aliens, shifters, rock stars, billionaires, and bikers. I take my readers to the outskirts of the galaxy to the highways of America with a hog rumbling between their legs. My stories feature plenty of romance, twists, and turns with a good HEA. I'm sure I can turn out a quality story for you that will sell well. Currently scheduling work for novels of any genre. Astrology Since romance writing overtook my business I no longer freelance for astrology articles except for grandfathered clients. Sorry.
