I write, edit, and teach AI to do the same. I have a degree in literature and a decade of experience in creative (ghost)writing, SEO content creation, editing, proofreading, transcription, and various language-related projects, including linguistic AI training. I'm here to help you with - Creating authoritative content - Writing expert book reviews, critical analyses, summaries, and blurbs - Editing, proofreading, and humanizing generative AI outputs - Training AI to write better I am a philologist with a general literature and literary theory degree. My literary expertise allows me to write about books in many ways and forms, from classic literature and poetry analyses and book study guides to comprehensive summaries or catchy descriptions of contemporary fiction and nonfiction books. I also know SEO. As an SEO Content Writer, I write well-researched articles, blog posts, and e-books that follow SEO best practices. My content is easy to read, provides real value, and helps businesses get noticed by search engines. I am a nonfiction ghostwriter. I research extensively, gathering information from books and credible sources. I then write clear, well-crafted prose, turning research into structured, engaging content. I have a strong track record in book blurb copywriting. A book blurb is a sales copy, not a summary. I won't retell your story. Instead, I'll help you sell it by writing a unique, engaging, and cliché-free description. I'm also a data linguist. For three years, starting two years before ChatGPT existed, I was part of an incredible team of machine learning engineers, data scientists, linguists, writers, and editors who built an AI algorithm capable of generating SEO content that outperformed the average human writer on the global market. My role involved writing example paragraphs based on specific keywords, paraphrasing text, proofreading, composing outlines, and more. Beyond that, I’ve done similar work at three major AI companies, where I performed RLHF annotation, rated and corrected AI-generated content, and contributed to refining model outputs for better accuracy, coherence, and engagement. Need an editor, proofreader, or AI output humanizer? I have years of experience refining AI-generated content, instantly recognizing machine-written text by its patterns, awkward phrasing, and subtle inconsistencies. I can help you with proofreading, editing, and restructuring AI output to improve clarity, flow, and readability. I correct errors, adjust tone, and ensure the writing feels natural and engaging. When it comes to my Upwork experience, the projects I’ve worked on include: - Book summaries and analyses - History articles and language-learning blogs - Literature and poetry study guides - Self-development workbooks based on well-known non-fiction - SEO articles, tutorials, listicles, and more What about AI? I don’t use AI to write. I train it. While some writers see AI as a threat or a shortcut, I’ve found it to be an exciting way to use my skills in a new way. For the past two years, I’ve worked on major generative AI projects as a data linguist, annotator, and chatbot trainer. I understand what AI can and can’t do and use that knowledge to deliver thoughtful, human-centered content. Here’s what I bring to the table: - A strong educational background and interests ranging from history and theology to technology and AI - Solid research and analytical skills that make complex topics clear and engaging - The ability to write in a variety of styles, from casual blog posts to in-depth analyses and everything in between - Experience with projects of all sizes, from short blurbs to full-length books - A practical approach that balances SEO strategy with content that connects with readers A couple of things to keep in mind: - I’m selective about the topics I take on. If I’ve applied for your job, it means I’m genuinely interested. - I don’t share ghostwritten work out of respect for my clients’ privacy. That said, you can check out some of my bylined articles on the LiveXP blog, The Collector, my Medium publication "Booksist," or my WordPress blog Christian Write-Ups. If you’d like to know more or think we’d be a good fit, click “Invite to Job” and let me know what you have in mind. I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

I'm a Jill of all trades in the literary world, with years of experience both writing and editing at the literary agency where I work. I'd love to talk with you about editing your novel. Read the testimonials below and peruse the selected published works in my portfolio. Clients have found me to be a good communicator and responsible with deadlines. Others have said I have a sharp eye, and a kind yet blunt critique style. I assure you, I want your project to be the best it can be, and I'll instinctively know the work that needs to be done to get it there. I'm ready to embrace your project as my own, so let's get to work! ***Kindly read this clarification before sending an invite: I don't edit works created either partially or in full by AI, and I do not participate in ghostwriting circles. Also, I don't write query letters, rather, I critique and improve letters that are already written by a book's author. Thanks so much!*** I Prefer: - Fixed price to hourly - Clear expectations - Kindness, always. No matter what needs to be said. - Working on either first 3 chapters (up to 8,000 words), first half (up to 40,000 words), or whole manuscripts (up to 90,000 words). You will get: - Structural/Developmental edits; these are big picture edits. (Random examples: This could be better in a different spot, maybe paragraph 4 of chapter 5 where you introduce this topic. Have you thought about making Mary older to fit her independent lifestyle? Why is Stephan so worried about the cleanliness of the apartment, if in chapter one you said he hired a cleaning lady? I'm wondering if chapter seven can be tightened and merged with six, because it's lagging and I worry readers will lose interest) - Line edits; these occur when a certain line/word is throwing off the story. (Random examples: This sentence is clunky because the subject of the sentence comes after all those other objects and adjectives. Your use of the word Coptic may not be correct since technically these worshipers would be Russian orthodox. Double-check the accuracy of your claim that black widow spiders can kill. Consider editing out the word "felt" from this whole chapter because it weakens the text.) - Grammar/Punct correction; This is like proofreading, but it's best to perform a separate final proofread once you're completely done with all edits. (Examples: spelling of words, word usage, grammar correction, punctuation correction) Can't wait to talk to you about your needs!

Don't let my location fool you. I'm an American expat living a wonderful life in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, but my language skills are firmly routed in American English. I find writing and editing on my laptop at a private deserted beach the perfect environment for my creativity and concentration. My freelance work focuses primarily on two areas: (1) complete editing and formatting services for both fiction and non-fiction books and (2) writing fiction and non-fiction, with a particular interest in ghostwriting autobiographies. As an editor, I love the process of starting with a critical read of a book and capturing its developmental needs and then moving on to the more technical side of the structure, grammar, and extensive proofreading. Finally, as with any jewel that has been cut, I do a final polish to make it perfect. I have clients all over the world, from Sweden, Italy, Japan, the UK, Australia, and, yes, the United States. I edit and write in American, British, and Australian English and totally understand the differences in grammar, usage, and slang. I also am skilled at working with authors whose native language is NOT English and have translated their work but need additional editing to make it sound more natural. Although I may be a relative “newbie” to Upwork, I have over 15 years of experience as a professional writer, editor & proofreader. I promise you complete accuracy, timely delivery, and a critical editing eye. My writing partners find my honesty and communication skills key to a great collaboration. My current and recent writing and editing projects include a Netflix Biopic about a notorious London entrepreneur, a political satire novel, a murder mystery novel, several articles for CNN and USA Today, two novels in the fantasy genre, an economic dissertation, a Tolkien type fantasy by a Swedish author. With over fifteen years in the industry, my clientele often commend my unwavering honesty and effective communication. My portfolio? It's as diverse as a CEO's perspective on design, a wanderlust-filled memoir of Latin America, to sci-fi adventures in distant galaxies. The stories I cherish the most? Ghostwriting for a U.S. Senator, recounting the life of a WWII refugee turned successful entrepreneur, and weaving a transformative self-help manuscript on being your best self. "My only regret in having James ghostwrite my biography is that I couldn't give him credit for it -- it has been a huge success for me"... Richard P. "As my editor, he took my fledgling novel and polished it into a diamond now in my very happy publisher's hands." ... Tony G. Contact me today. The best way to start any writing project is for me to have the chance to chat with you before we even begin. I would love an opportunity to show you how I can meet and surpass the needs of this opportunity.

Think of me as a Content Whisperer and Messaging Master. I'm a gifted storyteller, dedicated to helping clients discover and tell theirs. I say this unabashedly and with complete confidence. The proof, of course, is the words. Today, finding the right words is more important than ever, and I strive to under-promise but over-deliver. The name of my company says it all: words-are-my-biz And my philosophy is simple: The right words sell. The wrong words leave sales on the table. WHO I AM. I’m a professional writer living in Portland, Oregon with a lifelong passion for the power of the written word. I’ve written everything from novels to blogs, sales collateral to web content, ad copy to letters, business proposals to sales plans and training manuals. Not to mention a few thousand papers getting my four kids through high school and college. I love what I do. I approach every job intent on finding a happy ending and we aren't finished until we get there. At a time of life when most guys my age have either hung it up or given up, I'm doing the best work of my life. HOW I GOT HERE. I bring more than thirty years of sales and marketing business management experience to every project, and by this I’m talking about major corporations to mid-size companies and start-ups, working in fields including software, real estate, law, publishing, advertising and professional services. I confess to having a particular fondness for high degree-of-difficulty challenges. They bring out my best which is very good. HOW I DO WHAT I DO. Every engagement starts with conversation. Asking questions, lots of them, and listening and considering what I hear, followed by collaborative brainstorming to develop a plan we both embrace with confidence and enthusiasm. As you seek synergy within your organization, I seek it with my clients. It pays huge dividends. The common thread is in finding the way to communicate more effectively, internally and externally, with staff, customers and prospects. The common challenge is in identifying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and unique competitive factors confronting each client. TO LEARN MORE ABOUT ME. Read what my clients have to say about their experience working with me and my pledge to arrive at a happy ending, every time with every assignment. There are hundreds of reviews from clients that have become friends in virtually every industry and over thirty countries around the world. I look forward to hearing from you but know that I've made my practice not to take on work without conversation to first ensure a mutual fit. It's the path to happy, successful ending. Until then, wishing you good health and great success. andrew

I am an award-winning novelist who has published two books with a major New York City publishing house. My first novel went to auction and five publishing houses bid on it. It was also an IndieNext pick. My second book won the 2016 Beverly Hills Book Award for Excellence in Fiction. It was called "Compulsively readable" by Kirkus Reviews. It was number four on PopSugar's list of must-read books, and it was featured in USA Today. My third novel was published by Koehler Books in October, 2019. I have extensive editing, development editing and proofreading experience and have worked with acclaimed authors. I offer everything from intensive manuscript reviews to development editing to proofreading and basic editing. I am also a writing coach with more than twenty years of experience. I have worked for newspapers and magazines as a writer, editor and copyeditor. I had a double minor in college concentrating on fiction and non-fiction writing. I have lectured at writing conferences and workshops all over the country and have taught graduate-level writing courses at major universities. I conduct private writing groups as well as one-on-one coaching for writers wanting to improve their craft and create a more well-developed manuscript. I mentor high school and college students as well as writers of all ages wishing to advance their skills.

Having served as a professional editor and writer for more than ten years now, working with both fiction and nonfiction, my passion revolves around helping authors and publishers find the full potential of their manuscripts. My work is loosely split between working with indie authors and publishers, and so I also do work on blurbs, synopses, and queries, but only for works that I've edited or been directly involved in as a writing coach/consultant. In all tasks, though, I have an excellent eye for detail, and with my extended background as a writer and teacher, I can be depended upon to offer professional guidance at every turn, eliminate errors and inconsistencies, and meet all deadlines. By turns, I work as a writing coach, editor, and ghostwriter, matching my talents to my clients' needs. In each of these roles, I only take on projects that suit my skills--so, if you ask me to edit or write in a genre where I have no experience, I'll be the first to tell you I'm not your ideal fit. But, when I do take on a project, you can be sure that it will become a top priority and receive the attention and skill it deserves. When it comes to nonfiction, I'm got a varied background that crosses a variety of disciplines and types of writing. I've edited and copyedited a number of dissertations and academic articles within the humanities and sciences, and I've developed a close familiarity with details of grammar and citation styles (as I've worked as both a freelance copyeditor and as the assistant director of a university-level writing center). That said, academic work is no longer my focus, and you'll more often find me working on memoirs, self-help and business books, books related to health and wellness, and books that have some intersection with social justice, science/nature, current events, or culture. I've also worked on a number of books related to travel and history, as well as philosophy. In fiction, I have experience in various genres, including (but not limited to): science fiction, fantasy, speculative fiction, horror, suspense/thrillers, mystery, romance (of various subgenres, but especially paranormal, suspense, billionaire, dark, and contemporary), historical fiction, and literary fiction. My experience focuses on adult and YA material--I'm not the best fit for middle grade or children's books. Regarding editing, specifically: I've been freelancing on a full-time basis since August of 2014, and I love keeping an eclectic calendar so that I always have a fresh eye for each new manuscript. I track all work via Word's Track Changes feature, using the comments feature for feedback as needed. In terms of writing, I hire out as a fixer just as often as a writer--this means that I work through a complete novel, elevating the writing and 'fixing' issues that come up in relation to the story, character, pacing, genre, etc. Essentially, hiring me as a 'fixer' means that you've got a complete draft, and it's in decent shape, but you know it needs work and want it to reach the next level without your being directly involved in the revision. Many of my 'fixing' jobs come to me because an author needs to adjust word count up or down significantly, but is at a loss for how to do so without detracting from a project's quality or bringing in outside help. With nonfiction, I need to be 100% sure that I'm the right fit for a project before taking it on, so engaging in a detailed conversation ahead of hiring is always a must. My work in ghostwriting fiction has been focused around paranormals, suspense, romance, horror, SFF, and nonfiction, and I only hire out as a ghostwriter for adult work (vs YA). Lastly, I often serve as a writing coach, helping authors complete their first full manuscript or finish a project that's been languishing on their desktop for years. I take an immense amount of pride in my track record for helping first-time writers succeed as writers, and limit the number of coaching clients I take on at any given time in order to make sure I'm available on short-notice for meetings, crises, and content reviews/edits. This process looks different for every client and project, as I tailor my approach to each individual and job, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about how it might best work for you.

I'm Whitney, an expert story coach, script polisher, and developmental editor. I help writers develop and craft their best novels, memoirs, non-fiction books and screenplays. I look for projects that have immense promise and work with you to nurture your manuscript or script till it's all it can be! I've worked with award-winning authors, professional ghost writers, traditionally-published writers (i.e. Penguin Random House), and self-published authors with 4+ star Good Reads ratings to create compelling narrative arcs, pinpoint non-fiction core concepts, and generally guide promising stories toward greatness. I love helping writers craft beautiful and meaningful stories. If that's your dream -- I'm here to help. My skills come from years working as a story coach, writer, journalist, as well as within the publishing industry through a traineeship at FranklinCovey where I served on the advisory committee for Sean Covey's book "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens." I also have studied under working Hollywood screenwriters. I know the industry's reigning philosophies and approaches to storytelling -- such as those put forth by Pilar Alessandra, and Blake Snyder in his nigh-ubiquitous "Save the Cat." I'm also aware of the more unique devices taught by Angus Fletcher (a self-dubbed "story scientist" who has been brought in by TV networks and studios to crack story problems). My Specialties: ✔️ Story and Writing Coaching ✔️ Non-Fiction, Memoir, Novels (Literary Fiction), and Short Stories ✔️ Editorial Assessments ✔️ Full Developmental Edits ✔️ In-Depth Beta Reads ✔️ Script Consulting and Script Polishing Story is COMPLEX. Let me use my experience, story knowledge and knack for analysis to identify why your essay, narrative, short story, script. etc. isn't quite working, If you are worried about criticism, I assure you, I'm not your critic, I'm your coach. I offer you an array of specific and constructive feedback to make your story better. Most of my clients state, when they get my feedback report that it is the most illuminating, helpful and nuanced feedback they have ever received. I'm knowledgeable about essential story tools such as: ✔️ Story structure ✔️ Tone ✔️ Scene ✔️ Humor ✔️ Dialogue ✔️ Core Messages ✔️ Flow of Argument 💡 I can also work with you on a nascent story, self-help, non-fiction or memoir idea if you need some guidance starting a book! I have worked with entrepreneurs and coaches who have rarely or never written, but want to turn their fascinating start-up success story or core coaching principles into a compelling non-fiction book. Every great writer has a fantastic coach behind them. Even Ernest Hemingway took constructive developmental notes from his writer/journalist partners. Beware of the mistake in thinking writing a fantastic book is something you must do on your own! Don't let my price intimidate you. An expensive developmental editor is one who pats you on the head, says good job, or primarily makes suggestions about formatting and line edits. You won't grow as a writer from these suggestions and neither readers nor traditional publishers will be fooled. My goal is to offer you only what you need to take you to the next stage -- whether that's a coaching session, a beta read, or a full developmental edit. I want to give you only what you need to help you move forward. I offer risk-free sessions. Try a coaching or developmental editing session with me to see how you might benefit and if you're a good fit. The initial consultation fee will be applied to your project. If you'd like the opportunity to "try out" a session with me, go ahead and request an interview so we can talk and get started! Thanks so much for taking the time to read my profile. I can't wait to read your work! PLEASE NOTE: I frequently receive inquiries about ghost writing. I can assist your ghost writer in developing your book, but I am not a ghost writer, nor do I offer ghost writing services.
