My favourite research topics and contexts are complex, dynamic, messy, chaotic, dramatic ... I am committed to doing research which brings meaning, clarity and hope where they are most difficult to find and sustain. I've worked in digital health; global and humanitarian health; health systems recovery and resilience; palliative and end of life care; research ethics; military veterans' health; workplace well-being; organizational transformation; evidence synthesis and knowledge management ... I also do independent research on relationships, love, break-ups and conflict resolution, but this is still in book drafts which are a work in progress! I have also developed a rich personal arsenal of what I call ‘rigorous shortcuts’ or ‘shortcuts to rigour’ – tools that enable maximum rigour when we don’t have the time or resources for the ideal study design. My work as a psychologist/ counsellor draws both on my research studies and lived experience. I have been trained in the psychodynamic tradition, with specialisations in psychodrama and arts therapy. I often suggest writing exercises and other forms of creative endeavours as a path to awareness and healing. I listen with the whole of my being but also engage in dynamic conversation with clients in which I may challenge and push them and also share my own experiences.
