I'm a professional publishing consultant, editor, and writing coach with years of experience in the publishing industry. To date, I've edited over one hundred manuscripts. When working with you, my mission is to be your go-to collaborator for your project by remaining highly focused on your needs and by providing high-quality deliverables tailored to your project's goals. We can begin working together at any stage of your publishing journey as my skills and services include writing coaching, beta reading, editorial assessments, developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, and publishing consulting. Having worked at two university presses, I have experience with manuscripts of all types including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, short stories, business, and education. As a freelancer, I've also worked with fantasy, romance, crime fiction, and other commercial genres. I also have a BFA in Creative Writing and an MA in Management in the Creative Economy. As your editor, I'm dedicated to helping you develop high-quality content that meets all of your goals. I understand the effort that goes into your writing and your desire for your content to be the very best it can be. Therefore, my deliverables include not only the edited manuscript but also edit reports and collaborative revision hours that are all focused on elevating your manuscript. As your publishing consultant, I can guide you through the digital and print publishing process to deliver your content successfully, all while building your author or company brand. Together, we'll navigate your project through the independent, hybrid, or traditional publishing landscapes. I can develop a strong publishing strategy for your content and aid with project management for various steps of the process—from performing market research to executing sales strategies. As your writing coach, I can guide you through the writing process by providing exercises and techniques. I can identify the weaknesses and strengths of your writing and then provide solutions for how to eliminate those weak points and enhance your strengths. My goal is to be someone you can bounce your writing ideas off of and someone who supports and challenges you as a writer. If you're interested in working with me or have any questions, just send me a message telling me about your project and we'll go from there! Types of editing: Developmental Editing A developmental edit focuses on the big-picture elements of your content such as plot, character development, pacing, narrative, etc. For nonfiction books, it focuses on the structure of your content, what objectives need to be met by each section, delivery, etc. If your content is completed but hasn't undergone any revision yet, a developmental edit is where you want to start. When doing a developmental edit of your work, I provide you with a commented manuscript that highlights every suggested revision, edit report(s) with detailed explanations of issues and proposed solutions, and collaborative revision hours to discuss the edits. Line Editing Line editing is a high-level edit that focuses on the language, tone, pace, descriptions, voice, and writing style throughout the manuscript. A line edit includes a mix of direct edits and recommendations for additional content or cuts. When doing a line edit of your work, I provide you with an edited version (using MS Word track changes so you can review the edits) and a style sheet for the specific terminology used in your work (adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style). Copyediting A copyedit focuses on the readability of your content by correcting for grammar, inconsistencies, awkward phrasing, sentence structure, repetitions, etc. When doing a copyedit of your work, I provide you with an edited version (using MS Word track changes so you can review the edits) and a style sheet for the specific terminology used in your work (adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style). Proofreading Proofreading focuses on correcting typos, spelling, punctuation, and other small errors. This is the last phase of editing. When proofreading your content, I provide you with an edited version (using MS Word track changes so you can review the edits) and a style sheet for the specific terminology used in your work (adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style).Chicago Manual of Style

The top skills I can offer you are high-quality content writing, light editing, and proofreading blended with plant information research and plant identification if needed. My work is 100% original, and I will always return your work to you in the agreed-upon time frame. The journey started with a B.A. in Biology and an M.S. in Horticulture and Communications. From there I proofread at Cornell University, wrote and edited chapters of gardening books at Rodale Press, and edited a wildflower trail guide for a Pennsylvania park. A proofreading course in 2018 further honed my skills. Currently, I am successfully writing plant and gardening-related articles and blogs and proofreading on an ongoing basis. Welcome to my profile! For as long as you stay, I hope you enjoy your time! Your number one question should be whether or not you need my services. My number one question is have you finished your manuscript? If you can answer yes to that question, then you’re in need of a book expert—someone who is capable of editing your manuscript for: ❖ Content (flow, character development, plot development, etc.); ❖ Grammar (noun-verb agreement, danglers, tense, word usage, etc.); ❖ Spelling (is it their, there, or they're?); ❖ Punctuation (does that comma go there, is that the proper formatting for an ellipsis?); ❖ Proper capitalization of terms (Government or government?); ❖ Proper treatment of numbers (101 or one hundred and one?); ❖ Proper formatting of foreign terms (avec vous?); ❖ Quotations and dialogue formatting (single quotations for a quote inside of character speech or double?); ❖ Reference formatting and fact checking; and ❖ So many other editing errors I’ve come across in my eleven years of editing for authors. However, I’m not just an editor. I’m capable of formatting the interior of your manuscript for electronic publication and paperback publication for the following platforms: ❖ Amazon KDP ❖ Barnes & Noble's Nook ❖ Kobo ❖ Smashwords ❖ Lulu ❖ BookBaby If you are thinking of publishing on a different platform, I’m a quick learner. Honestly, there are a few things to tweak here and there to make a document compatible on a different platform. Just ask, and I’ll let you know if I can work my magic. Interested in my specs? I’ve professionally content edited, line edited, copyedited, proofread, and formatted manuscripts for self-publication, submission to literary agents, and submission to publishers for the past eleven years working with a myriad of different genres. I’m always looking to learn something new. When I’m not editing, I’m rereading the Chicago Manual of Style—currently in its eighteenth edition—or taking continuing education courses via the Editorial Freelancer’s Association and online college courses. I believe in continuously learning, and editing is an ever-changing field. If you haven’t guessed, I focus specifically on the Chicago Manual of Style, the most commonly accepted and preferred style for literary agents, publishers, and review publications (the New York Times). I have worked for self-publishers, boutique publishers, content creation services, medium publishers, and literary agents. I keep my prices at the lower spectrum for editing and formatting as I believe every book deserves the chance to shine. Please ask me about my: ❖ Editor's Letters (Developmental, Line, and Copyediting) ❖ Style Guides Both are included with the price of my bid for your project. I know that was a lot to take in, and you undoubtedly have questions for me. Please feel free to send me a message at any time with your questions, and I will respond as soon as humanly possible.Chicago Manual of Style

Have you written a novel or short story and are unsure if the story is complete? What about your characters--are they fully developed? Will your conflicts keep the tension high and keep your readers turning pages? If you're not sure, let's talk about a developmental edit. Have you written a nonfiction book or article but are unsure if the whole thing makes sense from start to finish? Are your ideas fully fleshed out, or are there gaps that your readers may fall into? Let's talk about your content and your organization. Have you written something--book-length or not, fiction or nonfiction--and you're confident about the big-picture elements but you're not sure if your writing style is strong enough for publication yet? Do you think your work could use some help at the sentence and paragraph level? Let's talk about a line edit. Are you "this close" to publication but you want another set of eyes on your work, just to ensure there are no typos, grammar mistakes, or missing words? Let's talk about proofreading. Since 2011, I've been helping my clients polish their writing, and I'd love to talk to you about yours. Prior to freelancing, I taught high school and middle school English and spent many years as a newspaper reporter and editor. I've got the experience and the education to help you. I am an Ivy-league trained English Professor with over 20 years of experience in academic writing and publishing. A published writer myself, I have helped a range of writers, from first-year composition students to seasoned professionals. I have been a reader and on the editorial boards of several academic journals, read admissions essays (graduate and undergraduate) and judge writing contests. I have also served as a department chair and on my former college's appointment, promotion and tenure committee. I have a particular expertise and passion for working with graduate students. See below for more information about my services as a thesis and dissertation coach and editor. (Interested in applying for graduate school or for fellowships? See my specialized profile). As a developmental editor and writing coach, my goal is to help get your writing into the world regardless of where you are at in the process: whether you already have a manuscript and a contract from a press or simply a rough idea of something you'd like to write. As a writing coach, I will meet you where you are and help you with any and every stage of the writing process--from the brainstorming and planning stages to the writing, revising and final editing to responding to reader reports and reviews and securing publication. I am a fast and careful proofreader and line editor, proficient in a number of citation styles, including MLA, Chicago, Oxford m, Harvard and APA, and able to carefully follow the publishing guidelines of the press you are working with. I am also conversant in a number of national Englishes. However, my true passion and skills lie in helping writers bring their projects to fruition. I am particularly good at taking a very rough, rough draft--or even a rough idea--and helping a writer massage it into a compelling and well-structured narrative. I am also quite good at helping writers who find themselves "stuck" in a particular project and need help crafting a plan to move forward. I offer a 10% discount to those who are the first in their families to go to college and to adjunct professors. Please feel free to reach out if you'd like to have a brief, no obligation conversation so I can learn more about your project and how I might help. THESIS AND DISSERTATION EDITOR AND WRITING COACH Writing a dissertation is hard, I know! I wrote one myself and, as an English professor for over 20 years, I have helped shepherd many students through the process. Unfortunately, not every graduate program provides their students with the kind of guidance and structure that most of us need for taking on a project of this size. That is where I come in. I taught graduate level writing for many years and have supported graduate students working in a variety of fields, including the social sciences, humanities, technology, business and finance, computer science and education. I am knowledgeable in a number of citation styles, including MLA, Chicago, APA, Harvard and Oxford, and am a careful and efficient editor. However, my talents really lie in helping clients with larger holistic issues, including argument development, organization and structure, and responding to reader feedback. I’m also especially good at helping writers who get stuck in a project or are suffering from writer’s block. My mantra is that a done dissertation is the best dissertation! As with all my clients, I offer a 10 percent discount for first-generation college students. I’d be happy to have a 30 minute no-obligation conversation with you to hear about your project and how I can help.Chicago Manual of Style

I help high-level entrepreneurs and personal brands who have tons of insight to share but no time to create content, grow an audience, or land media features themselves. Specifically, here’s HOW I can help: 👉 Get you featured in the media to expand your reach and influence (I recently got one of my clients, an 8-figure business leader, featured in Entrepreneur Magazine — twice) 👉 Grow an audience for you on LinkedIn or Pinterest. (One client saw a 22% increase in LinkedIn followers within 14 days; another saw Pinterest reach grow from 700 to 23,000+ monthly views in just 4 months) 👉 Write strategic blog content to position you as a thought leader in your space _____ 📌 Pinterest Marketing for Creators, Coaches & Personal Brands Pinterest is one of the most overlooked platforms for evergreen, search-based traffic, and it works really well for anyone who has a visually appealing offer – from coaches and course creators to personal brands. Behind the scenes, I help clients repurpose their existing content into pin formats that continue driving visibility and traffic long after they’re published. What I offer: ✔️ A Pinterest content system tailored to your niche ✔️ Repurposing of blogs, IG posts, and newsletters into scroll-stopping evergreen pins ✔️ Strategy, keyword research, and profile optimization ✔️ Graphic design that drives clicks, saves, and engagement No fluff. No algorithm panic. Just a steady, organic traffic engine — built with long-term growth in mind. Why work with me? ✔️ 3.5+ million readers across platforms ✔️ Viral content on platforms like Pinterest, Medium, and Quora ✔️ Clients featured in Entrepreneur, Business Insider, Forbes, Money, and Inc. ✔️ AI prompt engineering experience to optimize speed + creativity without sacrificing quality In other words? No bland AI content. No generic marketing fluff. Just smart, well-crafted work that builds your visibility — organically. Got questions? Send me a message and I’ll let you know how I can help. Feedback from a few recent clients: "I'm having some amazing connections and responses on LinkedIn. You are fantastic." – L.K., Founder and CEO "I've had the pleasure of working with Luba for the better part of a year and in the short time she's written for us, we've already seen an increased engagement rate on our blogs! Her ability to understand our complex business model and write engaging content has put my company in the best position to gain traction amongst our target audience. If you want to take the next step in your company's content writing, you NEED Luba!" - Steven Rosas, Marketing Coordinator at Genius AvenueChicago Manual of Style

Need a long-term editor? I'm a native English-speaking word nerd who loves to perk up blog posts, marketing content, business documents, reports, and more. Whether you're following Chicago, AP, or another style, and whether your document is a Word doc, PDF, or Google Doc, we can work together to reach your target audience and draw them in. I can help you communicate clearly and eloquently by • Correcting errors • Suggesting more specific or interesting word choices • Repairing faulty sentence structures • Eliminating wordiness • Improving organization • Detecting missing ideas • Conforming documents to the appropriate style • Amplifying your voice or brand voice • Meeting your SEO requirements • Using plain language where necessary You can count on me to boost your credibility without leaning on unreliable automated editing software or AI, which lacks the keen judgment required of an exceptional editor. I also understand the importance of deadlines and prompt communication; you'll hear from me soon whether it's a weekday or a holiday. Let's get started!Chicago Manual of Style

Are you worried about your spelling or grammar? Do you need someone to check for consistency throughout your project? Does your work need a little polish before being published? Or maybe you need to collaborate with someone to work out the kinks in your writing? Look no further; I can help. (I even know how to properly use a semi-colon and can easily explain it to you. Or I can fix it for you, and you never have to worry about it!) My varied background (high school science teacher, lab technician, zookeeper, cashier...), intense thirst for knowledge, and eagle eye make me the editor/proofreader you need. I have a wide range of information already in my head and the ability and desire to research anything else that I need to know for a project. On top of that, I am a voracious reader, which helps me stay on top of trends while exposing me to traditional grammar, too. I have experience with different style guides, especially the Chicago Manual of Style. I am willing to work with an in-house guide you may have developed, or even just be sure you are consistent within your own personal style. Having lived abroad and traveled extensively, I can even be sure you are staying within a specific regional dialect in your writing. I like working collaboratively with authors to perfect that originally awkward sentence or decide on a formal or informal tone, etc. However, I am just as willing to hand you a proofread document with proverbial red ink on it for you to decide what to change. Top traits: Flexible, fast learner, intense work ethic Interested in: Helping you to succeed Improving your readers' enjoyment Large or small projects (from short blogs up to an entire manuscript) Remote jobs Onsite positions in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C. areaChicago Manual of Style

I’m a curious, communicative, and committed journalist with 9 years of experience and 100+ articles under my belt. Still, I don’t churn out content; I craft stories. Stories that inform and intrigue, that get the message across. Stories that have rhythm, that establish a voice. Stories that secure readers — not clicks. What does that mean in practice? • From design to gender inequality, virtual reality to plastic pollution, the sounds of nature to big wave surfing — I've covered a wide range of topics. My point is, I’m versatile. • I’ve also worked with every major journalistic format: news reports, features, editorials, Q&As, profiles, guides, reviews, columns, and even short fiction. Again, versatility. • Insipid content goes nowhere. I focus on crafting thought-provoking pieces that capture a unique angle of the subject, creating a narrative that informs and inspires readers. • Speaking of readers… I always think about who I'm writing for and why they should read it — then choose my writing hat accordingly. • Part of why I love journalism is learning about new things. As a result, I dig deep when researching my topics, and go the extra mile to translate complex concepts, data, and insights into clear and digestible prose. • I fact-check information as though someone's life depended on it (which sometimes does), ensuring my articles are accurate and reliable. • Although I write in English, I can conduct interviews and research in Portuguese, Spanish, and French to provide a well-rounded, insider perspective. • Similarly, having travelled to 30+ countries and lived in 10, I’m highly aware of cultural nuances and can create content that caters to diverse audiences. • Besides publications, I’ve worked with brands, companies, individuals, and NGOs, so I’m able to adapt to workflows, goals, and ethos. • I can work independently as well as in teams. Ah, and I'm a big fan of constructive feedback. • Finally, establishing long-lasting relationships is something I enjoy and take pride in. After all, the bigger the trust, the better the process and, consequently, the results. Some cool things I've done so far: • Helped Surf Simply Magazine, where I’ve been a staff writer since 2015, increase traffic and quality to the point where we ranked #3 Top Surfing Blogs for the past four years; • Worked on commissions for major environmental and travel publications, such as Equal Times Magazine, Earth Island Journal, LOST, and Travel & Hospitality Awards; • Self-published a book (a fictional memoir), single-handedly taking care of every step — from writing to editing, designing, and publishing; • Ghostwritten 4 books: a guide about Padel, two Young Adult novellas, and a travel guide on New Zealand; • Conducted line & developmental editing on 6 memoirs; Topic-wise, I'm interested and well-versed in covering: • Sustainable initiatives across all industries; • Environmental preservation efforts; • Cultural immersion journeys; • Climate-related scientific discoveries & technological advancements; • Interviews & profiles on makers & doers, regardless of background or mission; Regarding format, I'm particularly comfortable writing: • Travel articles: Destination guides, cultural insights, travel experiences. • Environmental journalism: Investigative reports, features on sustainability efforts, and environmental impact stories. • Blog posts: Light-hearted and informative content for blogs. But the truth is, the topic or format doesn’t influence the output. If I’m curious about it, I’ll dive in head-first. So if you seek a well-researched, original, bespoke article or blog that speaks to your audience how they would like to be spoken to — well, I can help. Feel free to reach out with proposals and/or crazy ideas. I’ll be happy to hear your thoughts, give suggestions, and, together, work on something that will set your project/voice apart.
