I received my B.S from the SUNY at Potsdam in Computer Science graduating Magna Cum Laude and my Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology (“Georgia Tech”). I attended for a Ph.D in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (“RPI”). My most recent position was a tutor/teacher at Omega Learning Center and TutorDoctor teaching students from 3rd grade to college students. I also have been a teacher in the New York Mid-Hudson Valley school districts teaching all age groups from 2nd grade to high school students. In college I was a teacher assistant in my undergraduate and graduate studies. During my time in the corporate world I taught training classes. I am a published author for publisher Prentice Hall entitled “Unix Awk and Sed Programmer's Interactive Workbook”. I have taken certification classes in teaching and ESL. I am also a member of the National Tutoring Association, Association for the Coaching and Tutoring profession and American Tutoring Association I teach Math, Science, Business, Economics, Humanities, Social Science, and Computer Science. Math subjects include Calculus, Statistics, Linear Algebra, and Discrete Math. Science includes all sciences. I have taught numerous students ACT/SAT prep and GRE testing. While possessing a good understanding of the subject matter is a given for teaching it goes beyond just knowledge of subject matter. It requires interacting with parent, student and teacher so each feels the experience is positive and productive. Passion to see the transformation of seeing an individual struggle with material and then conquering it. Motivating and making material interesting when the student is unmotivated. Capable of meeting all the challenges and dynamics that teacher and student encounter to encourage them to master the material. In addition, teaching them tips and techniques that can help them progress given whether they are good at memorizing, need visual clues, or learn by example. Be energetic and enthusiastic. It rubs off with the student. With the right balance of energy and enthusiasm the student will be more inclined to feed off it. Clear goals must be established with a time frame associated with it so everyone can determine if the tutoring is working and progress is being met. Quickly identify the student’s learning style and adapt the course material to their learning style overcoming mental blocks that occur in science and math. Communication, communication, communication cannot be stressed enough. Always be positive and non-authoritative during the course of the lessons. Mathematics is often so confusing and so boring, but it doesn't have to be that way! Math is not some mysterious subject that only a few can comprehend. As with any discipline, practice leads to proficiency, and that practice needs to be guided by an expert. No one gains mastery in any subject without guidance. The problem for many people is that they were only told what to do, but never told why to do it. For others, they were never presented with an easy-to-follow step-by-step process for solving problems. Any educational problem can be fixed, no matter how hard it sounds. There is hope. Hope not for hope sake but with a competent, experienced and skilled tutor who has the experience and training to identify all situations that occur during teaching and using trained and proven techniques to see the light at the end of the tunnel Give us a try and you will be happy with the results

I can tutor college students in College Algebra, Precalculus, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Calculus I, Calculus II, Calculus III, Multivariable Calculus, Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra, Ordinary Differential Equations and preparation for undergraduate level proficiency exams in mathematics that test over material from only the above listed courses. I can tutor children in basic math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Precalculus, Calculus AB, Calculus BC and preparation for the math portion of the SAT. As a high school student enrolled in a dual credit high school in partnership with Northeast Lakeview College, I used to participate as a volunteer tutor in the Math Lab of the college. I am sufficiently compassionate and patient when helping children, and have very little trouble putting myself in their shoes to determine how best to communicate and explain. I have scored a perfect score of 800 on the Math Level 2 SAT Subject test and I can verify this through College Board if you'd like me to. While enrolled at the dual credit high school Judson Early College Academy, I tested out of College Algebra, Precalculus and Calculus I by taking a CLEP exam for each one during the summer between my sophomore and junior years of high school, and I received remarkably good passing scores on all of these CLEP exams, which I can also verify through College Board if you'd like me to. I hold a certificate in Mathematics from the International Association of Professions Career College. I hold an Associate of Science degree as well as an Associate of Arts degree from San Antonio College.

What does a Calculus Tutors & teacher do?

A calculus tutors & teacher guides learners through the complex mathematical concepts of limits, derivatives, and integrals. This role focuses on breaking down abstract theories into understandable steps using graphical, numerical, and analytical methods. The instructor diagnoses specific gaps in a student’s understanding and tailors explanations to bridge those knowledge gaps. They build confidence by leading students through guided practice until the learner can solve problems independently.

  • Teach core calculus topics such as continuity, differentiation rules, and integration techniques by presenting clear definitions and demonstrating step-by-step problem-solving strategies. Use board-style instruction to visualize functions and show how changes in one variable affect another, ensuring the student grasps the underlying logic rather than just memorizing formulas.
  • Diagnose misunderstandings by asking students to explain their reasoning aloud and checking for comprehension at each stage of a solution. Identify where a learner struggles with precalculus foundations or new calculus concepts, then adjust the teaching approach to address those specific weaknesses with targeted examples and clarifications.
  • Assign and review practice problems that align with the student’s current curriculum goals, offering specific and timely feedback on every submission. Correct errors in calculation or logic by pointing out the exact step where the reasoning diverged, and provide additional exercises to reinforce the correct method until the student achieves accuracy and fluency.

How to hire a Calculus Tutors & teacher on Upwork

Step 1: Post a job

Define the specific calculus topics and student goals in your job post. Use the Job Post Generator powered by Uma™, Upwork's Mindful AI to draft a clear description from a few sentences about your needs. You can write a new post, update a saved draft, or reuse an existing post.

  • Specify whether the student needs help with limits, derivatives, integrals, or precalculus foundations.
  • List the preferred teaching methods, such as graphical explanations or step-by-step analytical proofs.
  • State the expected session frequency and any required familiarity with tools like Khan Academy resources.

Step 2: Evaluate candidates

Look for freelancers who demonstrate clear reasoning in their profiles and work history. Uma can run instant video interviews and build shortlists with side-by-side comparisons to help you spot strong instructors.

  • Check for examples of guided practice where the tutor explains concepts using multiple representations.
  • Verify experience in diagnosing understanding gaps through checks for understanding and feedback.
  • Review past client comments for mentions of improved student accuracy and independent problem-solving skills.

Step 3: Interview your top choices

Discuss teaching strategies and assess how the freelancer adapts to different learning styles. Schedule and conduct interviews within Upwork Messages, which generates an immediate transcript and summary after each session.

  • Ask the candidate to walk you through how they teach a specific concept like the chain rule.
  • Request a brief demonstration of how they provide feedback on a incorrect solution.
  • Clarify how they plan to assess the student’s current level before starting lessons.

Step 4: Agree on scope and begin work

Set clear deliverables and milestones for the tutoring engagement. Use Upwork Messages and the contract workroom for communication and project management, plus identity verification, Hourly Payment Protection, hourly tracking, and project funds for security.

  • Define the number of sessions and specific calculus units to cover, such as differentiation techniques.
  • Agree on the format for guided practice and the method for submitting feedback on student work.
  • Establish a schedule for regular progress checks to ensure the student meets curriculum expectations.
