I edit and ghostwrite full manuscripts, shaping them into clear, cohesive, and engaging final drafts ready for publication. I also provide clean, efficient copy editing for manuscripts that are already written but need consistency, grammar, and flow refined. I specialize in full-length fiction and nonfiction books. My work focuses on structure, pacing, and clarity, along with line-level edits that improve flow without flattening your voice. When something isn’t working on the page, I flag it, explain what’s happening, and show you how to revise it. Most of my work is on full-length manuscripts that are close to finished but need a stronger, more cohesive read before publication. My editing preserves your voice while strengthening clarity, structure, and reader impact across genres including memoir, spiritual nonfiction, self-help, romance, dark fantasy, gothic fiction, YA, true crime, humor, and academic writing. I provide: ✓ Developmental editing and line editing for full-length manuscripts ✓ Copyediting for clarity, flow, and consistency ✓ Grammar and syntax review for accuracy and readability ✓ Writing critique with clear, actionable feedback ✓ Story development, including structure, pacing, and character work ✓ Research-backed fact-checking and citation support ✓ Beta reading with thoughtful, constructive feedback ✓ Manuscript preparation for agent submission or self-publishing Backed by credentials: ✓ Certified Trauma-Informed Teacher ✓ Trained in deep reading and literacy ✓ KDP, Vellum, and IngramSpark formatting ✓ Book cover design aligned with genre and market positioning I bring clarity, creativity, and precision to every project while honoring the author’s intent. You’ll get the eye of an educator, the instincts of a writer, and the perspective of a careful reader. I’m not here to rewrite your story. I’m here to make sure it engages the reader from beginning to end and reads the way you intended. ⏰ Turnaround time: 1–2 weeks unless otherwise noted 💻 Communication: quick, clear, and collaborative

I help CEOs, Entrepreneurs, and Legacy-builders of all kinds transform stories into value for the next generation. Memoirs, autobiographies, true stories--I've ghostwritten and published over five dozen, including several bestsellers and award recipients. I've also penned non-fiction in most of its genres, including self-help, inspirational, how-to, political, and historical. My goal is always the same: take your concepts and develop them into the most precise, compelling, and professional form possible. I take your story from "idea" to "published" guiding you every step of the way. While I can't provide an extensive list of books I've written (we ghosts tend to remain unseen), I can share first-chapter samples of some of those works upon request. Hope to hear from you soon. Recent Client Testimonials: "Shawn's writing skill is of unusually high quality. I recommend him to anyone looking for brilliance and will definitely hire him again." "Shawn is such a fantastic writer and has excellent communication skills. I enjoyed the time we spent working together and will definitely work with him in the future should I release a sequel to my memoir." "Worth every penny!!! Shawn did an amazing job and was very easy to work with. The book was published on Oct. 31 and everyone who has read it tells me they can’t put it down. Shawn took my story and crafted it into a magnificent book." "Shawn did a wonderful job and exceeded my highest expectations. I would hire him again in a second and have recommended him to everyone that mentions a desire to write a book."

I'm a ghostwriter who can help you write your personal or professional book. I can interview you and transcribe your words, and then develop a written narrative from the transcription, or I can use your personal notes, pre-written chapters, or previously published website or blog posts to produce the book or other copy you'd like to write. I can also use a combination of these things to create the final book. I have 25 years of experience in writing, editing, proofreading, ghostwriting, teaching writing, leading life writing/biography workshops, book marketing, book formatting, book cover design, and self-publishing on Amazon. I've helped people complete their book projects through ghostwriting, book coaching, developmental editing. and book publishing support. Using good organization, excellent communication, and a detail-oriented approach, I have provided coaching and editing for 20+ books and manuscripts, which are a mix of biography and other topics (business, real estate, entrepreneurship, education, self-help, and meditation). I strive to create stories that tell images--and images that tell stories. I am both a writer and an artist, and narrative is central to my work! I believe the best stories show a character's transformation from one self into another. This process occurs when they confront something seemingly insurmountable and are forced--through courage or sheer misfortune--to face it head on. Through this encounter, they discover something unknown about themselves and their relationship to the greater world. So many projects, both published and unpublished, suffer from what I call "and then, and then, and then." The characters move through stages, one right after another, but nothing ever changes for them. There is no growth, no epiphany, no evolution. My greatest thrill is helping good writers become better writers by pointing out ways to disrupt their characters and shake their souls! MY CAREER: I am lucky to have created stories for some of the best ad agencies (Ogilvy & Mather, MSLGROUP), television networks (NatGeo, Discovery), and non-profits (March of Dimes, Asia Society) in the world. With the onset of the pandemic, I wanted more time to focus on my own work as a writer and illustrator, and I pulled away from full-time corporate work (I just finished my baby--my novel!). I love freelance projects because they allow me to work with lots of individual artists who are personally passionate about their projects--like me! I am a member of the Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and I am an official judge for the Florida Authors and Publishers Association. I am also a member of several wonderful writing groups here in South Florida. MY EDUCATION: I hold an MA in cultural anthropology from Cornell University (2007). My work focused on the dualities of identity with a focus on South Asia. I conducted three years of extensive fieldwork and language training in Nepal. I hold a BA in anthropology and sociology from Carleton College (2002) where I studied abroad in Vietnam and Mali. My senior thesis was awarded the prestigious James S. Berglund Prize for Social Sciences. Cultural anthropology has remained a consistent thread throughout my life, and as a result my own creative work is heavily driven by questions of identity and the dialectic between sameness and difference. I care deeply about representation and will enjoy exploring these questions meaningfully and respectfully with you. AWARDS: Webby Award Honoree, for Homeland Afghanistan (2011); Grand Prize Winner, Bright Star Writing Contest (2009); Wenner-Gren Fieldwork Grant (2008); Summer Foreign Language Area Studies Fellowship (Summer 2007); Einaudi Travel Grant (2005; 2006); Foreign Language Area Studies Fellowship (2005; 2006); Sage Fellowship (2004); James S. Berglund Prize for Social Sciences (2002); Distinction in Anthropology (2002); Magna Cum Laude (2002); Freeman Fellowship (2001). MY STYLE: I am an artist striving to make it in the big, bad, creative world. This means that my name--my brand--is the most important thing I have. When I sign on to your project, I am not just trying to make YOU a better artist; I am also trying to make MYSELF a better artist. The quality of my work is the most important thing I can offer. I will work my hardest to make you shine and to make you very, very happy. WHAT I CAN OFFER: - story development - developmental editing - copyediting / line editing - copywriting - ghost writing - illustration - children's book illustration - storyboarding - research (categories: history, culture, literature, spirituality) Thank you for considering me for your project, and best of luck to you!
