I've been happily working with words for 30 years as a writer and editor for a variety of clients and in a number of different fields. My Upwork clients have consistently awarded me five stars. I'm also an excellent researcher and can do very in-depth work in that field. For example, I researched Civil War Charleston for a novelist, and researched 300 pages of legal statutes that culminated in four online courses I wrote for an Upwork client (also 5 stars). Following that project, I wrote an online real estate course (with no previous knowledge of the subject) and it was approved by the Florida Real Estate Commission. I work quickly but accurately, which is something to consider when comparing bids. I've also written web copy and marketing copy for numerous companies and individuals. For the educational field, I've produced software manuals, literature guides, test-prep books, five textbooks, a creative writing book, and two 16-page newspaper supplements. I've edited over a hundred fiction and nonfiction books, at least a dozen theses and dissertations, and several memoirs. As a freelancer, I'm always looking for new clients I can assist with any type of editing and writing. I love the work and enjoy helping clients accomplish their goals.Book Writing

So, you've had that book in mind for years now but never quite gotten around to it. You have a story to tell, or knowledge to share. Writing a book is a task that you don't have the time or patience for, yet you know that what you have to offer is valuable. That's where I come in. I'm a ghostwriter with several years of experience and 25+ books, some of which are published under my own name, some of which are ghostwritten for my awesome clients, and some of which I simply helped get "past the finish line" when the author needed some assistance. I help with shorter pieces too, including blog content, articles, reports and short stories. My job is to write the book or piece that you want, containing your ideas, in your voice, for the audience you want to reach. Your name goes on the cover, and I'm proud to know that I was part of the process. I love books and think the world needs more of them. Everybody has something worth sharing. Think of me as your stage hand - I'll get the stage ready and you'll be the star! Let's put our heads together and get something amazing done.Book Writing

She made the editing process a beautiful experience which caused me to push my limits and wholly put this book in His hands. She was my midwife to my labor in the moments I just didn't want to push anymore. Looking now at the final product, I know Jen was assigned by God and this baby could not be more beautiful. I am so excited to share with the world what Gorgeous Inside is all about." —Paloma Freeman, author of Gorgeous Inside "Jen Miller did the editing of my book, From Disgrace to Grace. She was very attentive and listened carefully to my heart on the book and its significance of it. She understood how near and dear to my heart this book is. In the sentences or paragraphs that didn't bring out the depth of what I was saying, Jen literally pulled it out of me by getting me to focus on the feelings of the characters. I can't say enough about how she brought to life the people, situations, and pain they went through. It was as though she was telling her own story. She comes highly recommended and I hope that one day we will get to work together again." —Donna Ross, author of From Disgrace to Grace "WOW! Jen, you have taken my manuscript and brought it to life. It's amazing how one can catch the vision and move it forward. You are anointed in what you do and I look forward to working with you again. Thank you!" —Sharon Patterson, author of Confessions of a Daddy’s Girl "Jen, you were a joy to work with. Your sweet spirit made me feel at ease and I cannot wait to work with you in future projects. Thank you so much for putting in your time and creative skills to work on this book. I will recommend you guys to everyone I meet because I am trusting that the same way you treated me . . . they will get the same experience. Thank you again." —Betty Martin, author, of How to Stay Free "Jen, I love and agree with everything you said in your critique. Do you ever wish that your favorite English teacher was around to explain a text, revise, proofread, or just plain do some writing for you? Well, here I am! I have 12 years of experience teaching literature, writing, and rhetoric at the high school and university levels. While the nature of my profession tends to limit my audience to my students and my district's administration, the range of my writing practice is quite varied. On any given day I work with students, helping them revise and edit at the sentence level. This daily practice means that I can work with broad strokes you provide or even message detailed elements to produce sound writing for your business. I create sample pieces ranging from poetry to researched essays, and I contribute to district-wide curriculum guides and writing initiatives. The variety of genres I write in affords me comfort in creative writing, constructing blog posts, rack cards, and product or service descriptions. I compose letters of recommendation for colleges and scholarships, much like the daily needs of business letter writing. And, I write lesson plans; many, many lesson plans. Writing lesson plans for my classes translates into instructional design for you and your company. Because I am flexible enough to write in all of these genres, I can write to meet your company's needs also. I am always eager to research, read, and learn new material. I can adapt my style from thank you notes to formal proposals. I am intimately familiar with MLA and APA style guides, I work well with the Chicago style guide, and I am familiar with others as well. I can produce selections in the 1000-2000 word range quickly. Longer writing tasks are welcome.Book Writing

***Before messaging me please note I am scheduling projects out by 3-6 months and my standard ghostwriting rate is $0.09 per word*** Hi. My name is Laya. I’m an award-winning, traditionally published novelist, screenwriter, and historian. What that means is I know how to tell a fantastic story. I can make a reader laugh, cry, fall in love, hide under their covers and tremble, or want to punch me. I have an eye for detail that brings the worlds I write to life—whether they’re real or imagined. More than anything, I have passion for what I do and never settle for anything less than my best work. Whether you have material already written, an in-depth, chapter-by-chapter outline, or are still in the development phase, I have the skills to write a book your audience won’t be able to put down. My writing meets the highest professional standards and is always deliciously bingeable. WHAT I WRITE: • Crime Fiction, Thrillers, and Suspense This is my bread and butter. Detective fiction (cowboy cop, hardboiled), police procedurals (police force, FBI), cozy mysteries/amateur detectives, historical mysteries, spy novels, psychological thrillers, forensics, and good old-fashioned whodunits. I'm especially good with anti-heroes. I’m a member of International Thriller Writers and have been working in this genre for years, so I've amassed a lot of resources, including associates who are lawyers, medical examiners, firearms experts, and working detectives. • Romance I will write any genre of romance, but I specialize in historical (Regency, Westerns, etc.), crime and suspense, fantasy, and paranormal romance. I write levels of steam from squeaky clean to very sensual. • Historical Fiction My professional degree is in history. It is also my first love. I know a lot of European, Middle Eastern, American, and Japanese history, from the cradle of civilization through WWII. What I don't know, I'm excited to learn. I love to do research and find those little historical details that really make this kind of fiction come alive. • Fantasy High fantasy, low fantasy, magical realism, historical fantasy, urban fantasy, and paranormal. • Horror Gothic horror, paranormal horror (ghosts and haunted houses, the supernatural, and dark fantasy), non-supernatural horror (fear of the unknown, serial killers), and "bizarro fiction". • Other genres I work in: YA/NA, Memoirs, Biographies, Self Help, Picture Books, Women’s Fiction, Short Stories, Screenplays What I DO NOT write: • Racist or hateful material of any kind. • Graphic rape or child abuse. • Science Fiction • Blog posts • Articles • Erotica What I offer: • Manuscript revision and developmental editing • Outline creation • Original ideas • Compelling characters and fresh plots • In-depth knowledge of the genres I work in, including tropes, themes, and conventions • Delivery is available in PDF, ePub, docx, and Mobi. If another format is desired, I can usually accommodate. • I follow the Chicago Manuel of Style for all projects unless otherwise instructed. What I DO NOT offer: • Proofreading. Message me to get started! My rates: GHOSTWRITING: • $0.09 per word. • Reading fee is $100 per 7k words. • Any client requiring phone/video communication of more than 30 minutes per week will be assessed a $70 per hour consultation fee. CREDITED WRITING: • Send me a message. BETA READING, CAREER and MANUSCRIPT CONSULTATIONS • Beta reading is $75 for up to 3.5k words. This includes line comments and a separate reader report, including answers to your specific questions. Projects longer than 14k are always discounted. Message me for more information. • I offer a free 15 minute phone or video consultation for potential clients, then my standard consultation fee is $70 an hour.Book Writing
