My Illustration Process Every story I illustrate begins with heart and unfolds through a clear, creative process designed to make collaboration easy and enjoyable. Whether you’re a first-time author or a seasoned publisher, I guide each project step-by-step so your story shines from the very first sketch to the final printed page. 1. Discovery & Planning We’ll begin with a friendly conversation about your book, its tone, message, and visual style. You’ll share your manuscript, ideas, and any visual references that capture your vision. Together, we’ll confirm the number of illustrations, book size, and overall aesthetic (soft watercolor, textured storybook, ect.) 2. Quote, Agreement & Schedule Once I understand the full scope, I’ll prepare a detailed quote, timeline, and simple contract outlining milestones, payments, and deliverables. This keeps expectations clear and the process transparent from start to finish. 3. Storyboard & Sketch Phase I’ll create sketches and text layout for each page — focusing on storytelling, character expression, and page flow. You’ll have the chance to review these and request thoughtful feedback before color work begins. One to two rounds of revisions are included at this stage. ⚠️ Please note: I do not accept AI-generated edits, redraws, or visual feedback. All feedback must be original and written by you. 4. Color Illustration Stage After sketches are approved, I’ll bring the scenes to life in full color. This is where emotion, lighting, and texture come together to create your story’s magic. One round of revisions is included per image after review. If a full redraw is requested there will be an additional charge 5. Final Files & Formatting Once all illustrations are complete, I’ll prepare final print-ready files based on your publisher’s requirements (IngramSpark, KDP, etc.). Deliverables typically include high-resolution JPEGs or PNGs, and a print-ready PDF. I do not upload the files to your platform for you, this is the author/publisher responsibility. 6. Delivery & Wrap-Up All completed files are delivered via Upwork for easy download. I securely store backups for six months in case you ever need replacements. You’ll receive full usage rights for publication and marketing as outlined in our contract. I retain rights to display the illustrations in my portfolio.
