Currently located: Charlotte, NC My name is Mariessa. I am one half of a field production team specializing in documentary filmmaking, multi-camera interviews, live broadcast, and event coverage. As well as our on-location work, we also provide the full pre-production process (research, scripting, logistics) and post-production services, including editing and color grading in DaVinci Resolve. We integrate AI tools, like LoRA training, image generation, and automated workflows - to enhance planning, efficiency, and creativity at every stage. I'm a film editor, and I’ve been working on documentary and fiction films for the past 20 years. My work has premiered at film festivals such as TriBeCa, SXSW, and DOC NYC, and has been featured on Apple TV+, HBO, Fox, PBS, Disney+, ARTE Europe, CBS, Fusion TV, National Geographic, and The Atlantic, among others. My passion for filmmaking began in Brazil, where I was first drawn to storytelling, writing, and visual arts from a young age. I studied Visual and Media Arts at Emerson College, in Boston, and have since worked on hundreds of productions as an editor, producer, story developer, director, or post-production manager. My focus as an editor is to bring to surface the dramatic elements of a story. By crafting words, rhythms, soundscapes and moving images into an emotionally compelling experience, I hope to speak to a greater truth. One that can be felt deeply, rather than just understood. My hope is to work on the most cutting edge and thought-provoking content being produced in the filmmaking world. I’ve edited productions using AVID Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro, but my expertise is in Apple’s Final Cut Pro X. I’ve used it since 2014 to edit most of my work, including many feature-length documentaries, TV specials, series, and hundreds of short films. I’m enthusiastic about developing efficient post-production workflows using FCP to allow the most time for creativity and collaboration.

Erika is a critically acclaimed writer, director, cinematographer and co-founder of the award-winning production company, Honey Head Films. Her work spans genres while maintaining a character-driven approach to grounded storytelling. A constant receptor to lighting bolts of inspiration, Erika is the author of 10 narrative short films, 4 feature films, a TV pilot, and has written multiple commission screenplays. ​ Her debut feature film, A Song For Imogene, won multiple awards on the festival circuit before going on to secure a distribution deal with Buffalo 8. The film is currently available to stream on Amazon Prime and Fandango. In addition to her multi-hyphenate work behind the camera, Erika has held an adjunct professorship at The University of North Carolina - Wilmington in the Film Studies Department and leads an intensive screenwriting program through Honey Head Labs.
