Hi there! I’m Mary B. The basics: -10 years of editorial experience -5 years of social media management -M.F.A. in Creative Writing -Published author Do you need a creative writer to spruce up your essay, blog post, or book? What about a trained eye to proofread or edit an article or book manuscript? Or, how about someone experienced in social media management, content creation, and web development? I have an enormous capacity for work and an unbridled enthusiasm for imaginative projects, planning, and creative strategy. For example: the considerable editorial experience I’ve gained by working for magazines like The Southern Review, Mississippi Magazine, and serving as a nonfiction submissions reader for Split Lip Press; my background in freelance writing for Click Magazine and Young Professionals of Seattle; intuitive digital marketing skills; and the time spent earning my M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Louisiana State University (2018). I value integrity, empathy, and creative curiosity in both myself and others, aiming to incorporate them in every project or problem I encounter. As a former editorial assistant with nearly a decade of experience in copyediting, proofreading, slush piles, and fact-checking, my training in the publishing and media fields is comprehensive, thorough, and diverse. I also acquired invaluable social media management experience, curated content, and managed creative collaborations during my time as Associate Publisher at Blooming Twig Books, Social Media Editor for New Delta Review, and internship at Folio Literary Agency. In 2015, I was accepted into Louisiana State University’s MFA Creative Writing program, while also serving as an editorial assistant for The Southern Review. Besides editorial work, I have over 4 years of classroom management experience at a variety of academic levels: college, highschool, and elementary. With my teaching background, I’ve learned how to function in stressful, high-energy situations and handle spontaneous conflict. Both my editorial and instructing experiences have informed the way I approach pretty much everything in life. My writing is published in a variety of online and print magazines such as Young Professionals of Seattle, Seattle Arts & Lectures, Flash Fiction Magazine, Psychopomp Magazine, Grimoire, Third Point Press, Sidereal Magazine, Thought Catalog, among others. My editorial expertise, coupled with my collaborative instincts, tenacity, and ability to grasp new concepts and ideas quickly would make me a useful—not to mention adaptable—asset to your team or project. I believe I could assist you in a number of ways, such as: meticulous research, providing a practiced editorial eye, generating engaging content, and conceptualizing imaginative digital strategies. Thank you for stopping by!
