I am looking for an experienced product designer to create CAD plans (or similar) for a home/garage-based physical product, based on some rough sketches I have, and some initial discussions with me. I'd want these design plans to be usable for patent applications and for sending to potential manufacturers to evaluate production alternatives. I would expect the designer to take my concepts and refine them into designs for a production-ready prototype, creating specifics from the abstract. I'd expect a few iterations of the designs, for example, the following steps:
- Apply and share your portfolio, I select you, we agree to your hourly rate, and you are bound by the confidentiality implied in Upwork's terms
- I share scans of my concept sketches, and we arrange a phone call to discuss the specifics of what I have in mind
- You provide initial draft designs, and we discuss on another phone call where I provide you any feedback and requested changes
- You refine the designs and resend. I would imagine this only taking 2-3 iterations
A near-essential requirement is for you to have experience creating design plans in formats that will be familiar to contract manufacturers, so I can have a prototype created and evaluate production costs. When you apply, please share your portfolio (can be partial/small), and describe any experience you have working on similar projects/products. I will look to you for expertise on not only the design/plans, but on materials selection, production ease, functionality, and more.
