I'm an editor and typesetter. Does it make me odd that I love commas and ellipses? I primarily do line editing, copyediting, and proofreading. I also love typesetting and formatting even though looking for stacks and ladders and spacey lines is a dying art. I received my BA in English, creative writing. While at school, I learned the ins and outs of editing and publishing with the student journal, and since then I've edited and formatted freelance and with many new and experienced authors and several long-term clients. I also currently edit and format for Splinter Press.Chicago Manual of Style

Copyediting is my passion! My areas of expertise are line editing, copy editing, and proofreading. I have been the copy editor and final read for the New York Times best-selling author Dianna Love and many other authors for almost fifteen years. Dianna writes romance/fantasy fiction, crime thrillers, and young adult fantasy fiction. I do the copy editing and find 95% of the mistakes. Next, a couple of others proofread it. Then I do the final read, ensuring it is 100% clean and error-free. I do all the steps for my other authors. I recently worked as a copy editor for a law firm, verifying that all documents (trusts, wills, and correspondence) left the office 100% clean and error-free. Besides copyediting and proofreading, I am also an excellent writer. I have helped two first-time authors with great stories, but they needed almost every sentence rewritten. That is one extreme. All the authors I have worked with have published their work. I have been fortunate to develop a fantastic rapport with every author I have ever worked with. Excellent communication is critical. With a sharp eye for detail, my efficiency is unmatched, ensuring your project is completed on time. My knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and AP style, coupled with my bachelor’s degree from Georgia Institute of Technology, further guarantees the quality and efficiency of my work, giving you confidence in my ability to meet deadlines. I offer two pricing options to accommodate different budget restraints: a flat rate per word and an hourly rate. My flat rate is between $.035 and $.05 per word, and my hourly rate is between $40 and $55. My rates are negotiable, especially for long-term, ongoing work. Most people do better by the hour unless the project is highly labor-intensive. I offer the best of both options, giving you the most beneficial rate. If my hourly wages hit the total quote for “by the word,” I will stop timing, so you receive the lowest rate. This is my process. I do the first read (copyediting and line editing) using the tracking feature on Microsoft Word and find 95% of the mistakes. I will send it to you so you can accept/reject the edits and respond to the comments. You don’t have to accept every edit. It is more important to reject the edits you DON’T want and respond to the comments/questions. Then, you will return it to me for a second read (proofreading). I will begin with a clean copy and read it again. We will continue this process (usually only two reads are required) until your document is 100% clean and error-free. The completion time is based on how many words are in the document and how quickly you return the first read to me. I have copyedited and proofread over eighteen novels by New York Times best-selling author Dianna Love. Some other books I have worked on include: • 70 50 10: The Journey to an Entrepreneurial Legacy by Mike Russell and Visionary Writing (Amazon) • Black Diamond: The Fourth Missing Bullet by B. Frank Hall (Amazon) • Can God Use Me? by Kristine Kimmel (Amazon) • Courage for America by Jackie Arnold (Amazon) • Mulberry Creek by Harry Bach (Amazon) • Five Indelible Men by S. Z. Mustafa (Amazon) • Ikhla’s Butterfly by S. Z. Mustafa (Amazon) • The High School of Low Blows by Rosie Medero • People and Plants by Desiree Delcourt • The Best Adventure Ever by Mathew Jensen (Amazon) • Lifemap for Teens by Mathew Jensen (Amazon) • The Sales Engineer’s Playbook by Darel D. Ison II • Money Laundering and Compliance in Football by Ibrahim ElOraby (Amazon) • Happy Monday: Designing Your Dream Career by Nathan Stuck and Visionary Writing (Amazon) • Practice Pathfinder Blueprint by Mathew Jensen (Amazon) • Original Human Beings by Dr. Tim White (just completed, not yet published) • A Café in Paris by Glenn Ritt (Amazon) • The Hypocrisy of the Church by James E. Allen • The Prescription for Overcoming by Dr. Annetta Alexander (Purpose Publishing) • Speak, But Not For Me by Enock Menge (Amazon) • Sun Tzu’s Art of War in The Battlefield of Project Management by Puneet Kuthiala • Three books published by Castle Vale Publishers Ltd. -Stop Overthinking It -Sky Soldiers -The Great UN Reset • Twenty-four Ruthless Romance Novels I am a natural-born proofreader and an excellent candidate for your job. If you send me a message, I can send you my resume and a document with the dedication from the book that New York Times best-selling author Dianna Love dedicated to me and other authors’ acknowledgments. Please send me a few sample pages of your work to edit so you can see how I can help.Chicago Manual of Style

I’m a freelance editor with over 20 years of experience—longer if you count all the typos I used to find in my early reader books. And I NEVER use AI. I love the English language (even if teaching it, or even fully understanding it, is fraught with trouble). My job is to make everything you do better. I have edited for traditionally published authors (like Elise Title who has published dozens of romance novels for Harlequin as well as psychosexual thrillers like Romeo for Bantam), and I have also worked with self-published authors, and even authors who just want to make their passion project perfect for themselves. “What about nonfiction books, Rebecca?” Yep, those too; everything from business manuals like Code–Measure–Improve by Adam Schwartz and Deborah Walsh, to self-help relationship books like Relationship Cleanup by Elise and Dr. Jeffrey Title. A special place in my clichéd heart is reserved for children’s and YA lit. I would call it nostalgia if I didn’t still read them for my own enjoyment. There is room in that aforementioned clichéd heart for my first love—poetry. When I was a child, my big brother read Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss to me until I memorized all my favorites. In sixth grade, when my English teacher read “Suicide’s Note” by Langston Hughes—my trajectory immediately changed. I studied poetry and poetics in college for my final thesis. I think that knowing the way words work in poetry gives me a unique perspective that serves to enhance my editing skills.Chicago Manual of Style

For 32 years, I worked in educational and academic publishing, first as a content editor for Harcourt Brace and Holt, Rinehart and Winston and then as Vice President and Director of Humanities for McGraw-Hill Education. In that role, I oversaw publication of all humanities projects and ensured that MHE rose to become the leading humanities publisher. • In 2014, I left MHE to return to my first love--hands-on editing. • I have worked for a variety of clients, including MHE, Contentra Technologies, The Today Foundation, and MDPI, an open-access publisher of international academic, scientific, and professional journals. • I am equally comfortable with developmental editing, line editing, and copy editing and have a great love of and respect for the English language. • I hold a B.A., cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Washington and Lee University, with a double major in history and communications and an M.S. in Education, summa cum laude, with an emphasis on instructional design, from Northern Illinois University. • Having so much editorial experience, I am naturally experienced with CMS, ACS, MLA, AMA, and APA styles. While I do not have the latest iteration of each memorized, I know where to look to find the answers quickly. • I have worked in a variety of CMSs, including Habitat, InCopy, InDesign, and LaTex. • I believe that active communication is key when undertaking a project. Keeping all stakeholders informed effectively deals with small issues before they become major ones and streamlines product development.Chicago Manual of Style

I am an assiduous proofreader and copyeditor, a meticulous grammarian, and a lifelong wordsmith. My greatest strength is my ability to transform imperfect writing into polished prose. I am adept at understanding and applying the rules of grammar and punctuation, and I adhere to the Chicago Manual of Style. I know not only where the commas and em dashes go but also where the danglers and incorrect verb tenses hide. I edit and polish using Microsoft Word (including the Track Changes and Comments functions), Google Docs, and PDF format. I am a native speaker of American English, and my vocabulary is expansive. I am adept at choosing precisely the right words to convey the writer's intent. I never rely on trite language, and I am alert to even slight redundancy and repetition. I see areas for improvement that writers miss. I work with many types of content, including both fiction and nonfiction. I excel in polishing thoughtful, serious novels, and I have a particular bent for transforming self-help, instructional, and explanatory content from good to exceptional. For each project I take on, my goal is to elevate the appeal and quality of the content and enhance the writer's image and credibility while preserving the writer's voice and style. I have bachelor's and master's degrees and am a student at heart: I conduct online research throughout my projects to ensure a clear understanding of the client’s subject matter and terminology. I am also a certified proofreader and a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA). I am always happy to polish an excerpt of the client's material at no cost to enable the client to determine whether my skills are the best fit for the project.Chicago Manual of Style

Now it's my career, and I love to use my natural and acquired skills to help written communication fulfill its purpose—whether that's to educate or entertain. In 2010, I started freelance writing as a side gig, crafting B2C content and telling true stories. After completing my B.A. in English in 2016, I realized my true calling is proofreading and editing. Since then, I've completed numerous proofreading and copyediting/line editing projects, specializing in the following: *Christian and inspirational nonfiction and fiction *historical nonfiction and fiction *bio pages and blogs *college admissions essays *children's/YA fiction Contact me for a quote for your project, and I'll help make your writing the very best it can be.Chicago Manual of Style

Hello, my name is Jeff Rudolph, and I am a book manuscript copyeditor and proofreader. I have helped numerous authors and small publishers get their manuscripts cleaned up and ready to present to the world. I consider fantasy and historical fiction my specialities, but I've worked numerous genres including romance, religion, how-to, poetry, business, education, and more. As a copyeditor, it is my job to make sure all the mechanical elements of your writing--spelling, grammar, etc.--are clean and error-free. It is also my job to make sure that everything reads well by looking at phrasing and word choice and making changes where necessary (while making sure to retain your voice within your writing). Finally, I keep an eye out for things like factual errors and plot holes that may have slipped through previous drafts. As a proofreader, I serve as a final pair of eyes at the end of the editorial process to catch any remaining errors that managed to slip through previous steps. Specifically, the proofreader's role is to perform a final sweep to catch those last few mechanical errors that managed to sneak past the copyeditor, and to check for any formatting issues that may have been introduced or missed during the formatting/layout process. So if you're looking to get your manuscript ready for publishing, please feel free to contact me.Chicago Manual of Style

Have you written a novel or short story and are unsure if the story is complete? What about your characters--are they fully developed? Will your conflicts keep the tension high and keep your readers turning pages? If you're not sure, let's talk about a developmental edit. Have you written a nonfiction book or article but are unsure if the whole thing makes sense from start to finish? Are your ideas fully fleshed out, or are there gaps that your readers may fall into? Let's talk about your content and your organization. Have you written something--book-length or not, fiction or nonfiction--and you're confident about the big-picture elements but you're not sure if your writing style is strong enough for publication yet? Do you think your work could use some help at the sentence and paragraph level? Let's talk about a line edit. Are you "this close" to publication but you want another set of eyes on your work, just to ensure there are no typos, grammar mistakes, or missing words? Let's talk about proofreading. Since 2011, I've been helping my clients polish their writing, and I'd love to talk to you about yours. Prior to freelancing, I taught high school and middle school English and spent many years as a newspaper reporter and editor. I've got the experience and the education to help you. I know grammar rules backwards and forwards, as well as both the Chicago Manual of Style and AP style, and I have no problem meeting deadlines. Your manuscript, paper, article, or email will shine when I'm finished with it. I welcome your questions and am looking forward to learning more about your project!Chicago Manual of Style
