Hello! If you’ve found my Upwork profile, I’d like to welcome you to my page and introduce myself. My name is Abigail, and I’m a writer and trained editor. My current projects include editing and proofreading newsletters, blogs, articles, web copy, and academic papers. I am a detail-oriented writer and editor who works hard to spotlight the best aspects of your projects. With mechanical editing, I will help you eliminate errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and syntax. In addition to mechanical editing, I also offer developmental editing. A developmental edit can begin at the brainstorming stage of writing to help you clearly define and develop your ideas. A developmental edit can also happen after you’ve written a draft, and at this stage it helps you to style and refine your writing. I am open to a wide variety of projects and happy to discuss your project with you. Send me a message—I am eager to meet you!

I'm an experienced writer and editor with a strong background in digital marketing, fashion and home retail, and nonfiction ghostwriting. With over a decade of experience writing for retailers including Terrain, BHLDN, Lilly Pulitzer, and Soft Surroundings, I bring expertise to both print and digital collateral, ranging from email messaging, product copy, blog posts, and paid media content to print catalogs, product packaging, and in-store marketing materials. Beyond the retail space, I’ve worked as a freelance writer and editor for a variety of clients including financial services companies, commercial real estate firms, hotel brands, and nationally-recognized design and music blogs. Balancing a wide variety of freelance projects—often on tight timelines—has increased my efficiency and organizational skills as a writer, and made me adept at quickly switching between writing styles tailored to the needs of an assignment. I have also ghostwritten two home and garden design books: Terrain: Ideas and Inspiration for Decorating the Home and Garden (2018) Terrain: The Houseplant Book (2022)

Copyediting is my passion! My areas of expertise are line editing, copy editing, and proofreading. I have been the copy editor and final read for the New York Times best-selling author Dianna Love and many other authors for almost fifteen years. Dianna writes romance/fantasy fiction, crime thrillers, and young adult fantasy fiction. I do the copy editing and find 95% of the mistakes. Next, a couple of others proofread it. Then I do the final read, ensuring it is 100% clean and error-free. I do all the steps for my other authors. I recently worked as a copy editor for a law firm, verifying that all documents (trusts, wills, and correspondence) left the office 100% clean and error-free. Besides copyediting and proofreading, I am also an excellent writer. I have helped two first-time authors with great stories, but they needed almost every sentence rewritten. That is one extreme. All the authors I have worked with have published their work. I have been fortunate to develop a fantastic rapport with every author I have ever worked with. Excellent communication is critical. With a sharp eye for detail, my efficiency is unmatched, ensuring your project is completed on time. My knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style and AP style, coupled with my bachelor’s degree from Georgia Institute of Technology, further guarantees the quality and efficiency of my work, giving you confidence in my ability to meet deadlines. I offer two pricing options to accommodate different budget restraints: a flat rate per word and an hourly rate. My flat rate is between $.035 and $.05 per word, and my hourly rate is between $40 and $55. My rates are negotiable, especially for long-term, ongoing work. Most people do better by the hour unless the project is highly labor-intensive. I offer the best of both options, giving you the most beneficial rate. If my hourly wages hit the total quote for “by the word,” I will stop timing, so you receive the lowest rate. This is my process. I do the first read (copyediting and line editing) using the tracking feature on Microsoft Word and find 95% of the mistakes. I will send it to you so you can accept/reject the edits and respond to the comments. You don’t have to accept every edit. It is more important to reject the edits you DON’T want and respond to the comments/questions. Then, you will return it to me for a second read (proofreading). I will begin with a clean copy and read it again. We will continue this process (usually only two reads are required) until your document is 100% clean and error-free. The completion time is based on how many words are in the document and how quickly you return the first read to me. I have copyedited and proofread over eighteen novels by New York Times best-selling author Dianna Love. Some other books I have worked on include: • 70 50 10: The Journey to an Entrepreneurial Legacy by Mike Russell and Visionary Writing (Amazon) • Black Diamond: The Fourth Missing Bullet by B. Frank Hall (Amazon) • Can God Use Me? by Kristine Kimmel (Amazon) • Courage for America by Jackie Arnold (Amazon) • Mulberry Creek by Harry Bach (Amazon) • Five Indelible Men by S. Z. Mustafa (Amazon) • Ikhla’s Butterfly by S. Z. Mustafa (Amazon) • The High School of Low Blows by Rosie Medero • People and Plants by Desiree Delcourt • The Best Adventure Ever by Mathew Jensen (Amazon) • Lifemap for Teens by Mathew Jensen (Amazon) • The Sales Engineer’s Playbook by Darel D. Ison II • Money Laundering and Compliance in Football by Ibrahim ElOraby (Amazon) • Happy Monday: Designing Your Dream Career by Nathan Stuck and Visionary Writing (Amazon) • Practice Pathfinder Blueprint by Mathew Jensen (Amazon) • Original Human Beings by Dr. Tim White (just completed, not yet published) • A Café in Paris by Glenn Ritt (Amazon) • The Hypocrisy of the Church by James E. Allen • The Prescription for Overcoming by Dr. Annetta Alexander (Purpose Publishing) • Speak, But Not For Me by Enock Menge (Amazon) • Sun Tzu’s Art of War in The Battlefield of Project Management by Puneet Kuthiala • Three books published by Castle Vale Publishers Ltd. -Stop Overthinking It -Sky Soldiers -The Great UN Reset • Twenty-four Ruthless Romance Novels I am a natural-born proofreader and an excellent candidate for your job. If you send me a message, I can send you my resume and a document with the dedication from the book that New York Times best-selling author Dianna Love dedicated to me and other authors’ acknowledgments. Please send me a few sample pages of your work to edit so you can see how I can help.

I just launched my services on Upwork, and have been very fortunate so far. I absolutely love working on this platform. It has been extremely rewarding. WHO AM !? I'm a wildly creative writer/editor, molded by my professional training as a licensed attorney and twenty years in the film industry. Whether you need original, impeccably-written marketing material, or a nuanced polish of an academic submission, I'm your go-to resource for flawless execution. CANDOR -- If I can't help you, I'll do my best to put you in touch with the right resource. You shouldn't be left to twist in the wind. INTEGRITY -- It only takes one bad review to destroy a hard-earned reputation. In view of this, I always give it my all. As Winston Churchill said, "I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat."

I'm an English Ph.D. with 15 years' experience as a writer, editor, and college English professor. As an academic, I've been teaching students how to express themselves in clear, clean prose since 2008, while publishing research on a variety of topics on film and historical fiction. As a writer, I've published sci-fi, fantasy, and horror stories in half a dozen professional literary magazines, and am an active member of both SFWA and HWA. As a fiction editor, I've lent my geeky passion for sci-fi/fantasy topics and historical fiction to a number of projects, working as everything from a lead developmental editor helping authors workshop rough manuscripts to a copy editor, line editor, proofreader, and story consultant. I often work in the genres of sci-fi, fantasy, YA and children's literature, and non-fiction memoir and history. I'm also widely practiced in editing commercial copy, and maintain ongoing relationships as an 'in-house' editor for several businesses. Some of the more interesting projects I've worked on include: -Robert C. Feol's award-winning "A Journey to Mouseling Hollow" series of fantasy adventure books -Writer and story editor on 'The Land Forgotten,' a fantasy video game -Developmental editor and copy editor of a sci-fi mystery novel, cyberpunk novel, sci-fi/fantasy mashup novel, and epic fantasy novel inspired by the Arabian Nights -Editor of children's books by Deborah Mortimer, Tameka Mitchell, and Kristen Niedzielski -Writer and editor of a comedic promotional book on the history of the velour tracksuit -Editor of historical manuscripts related to the Kennedy Assassination and the rise and fall of K-Mart -Wrote and edited copy for a clothing company, medical marketing company, legal consulting service, environmental organization, whiskey distillery, and adult toys manufacturer -Diversity/Sensitivity Reader for textbooks published by McGraw-Hill and children's books published by Learning A-Z -Writer for five themed collections in a series of Presidential Speeches -Historical Consultant for a novel set during the Civil War

English professor and former writing program director, now a freelance writer, editor, and rhetorical consultant in professional communication. I work with publishing academics in a variety of disciplines: from the humanities and both the social and natural sciences (e.g., philosophy, literature, archaeology, art history, engineering, and political science, to name a few). I also frequently consult with graduate and professional students as they prepare their dissertations and theses for defense and graduate school submission. I offer a full range of dissertation coaching services, from developmental feedback to final polishing and line editing. Wherever you are in your dissertation or thesis journey, I can help you finish (or start!) your qualitative research project as stress-free as possible. If you need help understanding qualitative data analysis and coding or are overwhelmed by the thought of just even starting data analysis, please send me a message—Maybe you’ve found your topic but aren’t sure how to find all the academic sources you need for your lit review. Or you may be asking how to keep all your references organized. (Yes— there are stress-free ways to manage and cite hundreds of articles and books). Are you stuck and unsure if a case study or phenomenological approach is best? You've gathered your data. Now what? Do you need help with NVivo or Quirkos for your data analysis? My favorite method is Thematic Analysis, but I'm well-versed in other forms of QDA. For the clients that I help through data analysis, I can help with document formatting (I'm a whiz at document formatting and am an APA 7 perfectionist). Do you need to clean up or finalize your academic papers, journal manuscripts, thesis, or dissertation? I am your grammar, spelling, and punctuation police! I am results-driven and will honor the deadline(s) you set. My expertise is in APA style (both 6th and 7th editions). I also have copyedited/proofread/formatted papers and manuscripts in AMA, MLA, Vancouver, Harvard, and ASA styles. As your copyeditor, the goal is to make your work cohesive, consistent, and complete. I will revise your draft to make it free of grammatical and factual errors and correct any awkward language and overly wordy sentences. I focus on grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax (sentence structure) for corrections. For formatting, I will ensure fonts, layout, and style consistency according to guidelines (i.e., APA, university, etc.). As a proofreader, I will minimize embarrassing mistakes before publication, specifically looking for and correcting typographical and grammatical errors. I will also detect inconsistency in layout or fonts. My proofreading service will be the final check of your written work before submission to the university, journal editors, or publishers. I primarily use Microsoft Word using track changes for editing and proofreading. I have also used Google Docs through suggesting mode and OverLeaf (LaTex) for previous client work. If requested, I can use these tools. I deliver the work in two versions: tracking and no tracking changes. I pride myself on time management. Upon contract agreement, we will discuss a reasonable deadline for your work. I will send you the deliverables on or before the deadline. If there are any delays, I will inform you immediately. I want to emphasize that good copyediting or proofreading occurs when it is not hurried. Rush editing/proofreading work will incur additional fees.
