Writing is my passion, English is my game. I live to travel and I travel to live, with experience from around the world (notin80days). I find inspiration constantly in an ever-changing environment. Refreshing my being on a daily basis, pulling joy from all walks of the earth - whether it be the 'Chi Oi's' working in unaware bliss in the rice fields of Northern Vietnam, or the sun dancing off the Mediterranean Sea in Cadiz, Spain... From professional to creative writing, travel writing and horticulture, I'm experienced across a wide spectrum in the writing field, having the opportunity to work for newspapers, magazines (local), and online (international), with published articles across all three mediums. As with the times, today I currently work online predominantly, with strong experience in online (website) and social media platforms, including content curation, research and writing, refreshing existing work on websites from the backend side of things, as well as proof-reading and sub-editing, workly closely with editors, writers, clients, etc. along the way. I've worked in the Research and Publishing department for a Publishing, Communications and Marketing company, focusing on the Retail sector in the South African Market. (As well as Photographer for all Marketing Reports created.) Some of our clients included Unilever, Nestle and Coca-Cola. Dabbling in the online recruiting market years ago whilst living in Thailand, I worked for an American mobile and web development agency, focusing on finding suitable web-developers (iOS, back-end, front-end, Android, etc) for clients. This really helped me get to understand the back-end of the online world, gaining insight and knowledge. A great personal achievement was graduating Cum Lade of my final university year. With strong editing and proof-reading skills and attention to detail, my descriptive writing is full of life and expression. A few of my other strong points include creative writing, content writing, research, content curation, storytelling - and cooking, but that's a different ball game altogether ;-) Other personal skills include time management - speedygonzales over here - creativity and opinion (I'm not shy that's for sure), as well as determination and a strong-minded soul. I love writing (naturally) whether it's in the form of poetry, personal blogs or in my journals. As briefly touched on, food is a HUGE passion of mine, and I love everything about it from the taste to the cooking experience, and it's pretty much my main mission when I travel (or just in life in general, I guess). Green fingers were passed down the generations in my family and I spend my free time growing plants, veggies and fruit in my home garden. Painting, drawing and photography are how I express myself creatively too, through the joy of colour in putting paint to canvas, or sketching botanical illustrations in pencil - fill my world with art. FYI, I'm not new to Upwork and have indeed been a member since 2014, I have just had to create a new profile since relocating, so please don't mistake me for a newbie...;-)Copyediting

My skills as an academic coach, reviewer, and editor will facilitate a highly readable and grammatically correct report about the research conducted and the conclusions reached as well as be a good fit for the institution and/or journal requirements. A background in conducting research and teaching research methodology as well as strong analytical abilities and attention to detail means I will alert you content issues that could strengthen your document prior to finalizing the edit. In this way, the report you submit presents your very best efforts for academic evaluation. I have edited over 700 masters/doctoral dissertations as well as academic papers for copy and content since 2005 to date; students/academics were located on all over the globe and included second-language English speakers. I am well-versed in MLA, Harvard, APA, APS, and Chicago academic styles and offer copy and content editing options on a wide variety of topics including psychology, social development, education and leadership. In the past, I conducted corporate social research (archival and attitudinal), wrote four theses of my own in partial fulfilment (Honors in Psychology, master's in clinical psychology) and complete fulfilment (master's in research psychology and Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology), taught methodology to undergraduate and post-graduate students at Rhodes University, and supervised master's dissertations. I have also published papers in peer-reviewed journals, both of which were accepted without further revisions required and write blogs for my own websites regularly. Please note that I respectfully decline offers to write for students—I am a developmental, review, and copy editor, not a ghost writer: I teach people how to write more eloquently in their own voices. I have a life-long, passionate love for words and their ability to shape thoughts, inspire greatness, and change a generation. This passion, in collaboration with my unique skillset, is continuously innovating and driving an enhanced standard of excellence in my workmanship. Although AI is an outstanding tool, my tools of choice are my knowledge and substantial experience, offering my clients the full benefits of my expertise. Nothing beats grey matter for quality, authenticity, and originality. As a native bilingual English professional, also fluent in Afrikaans, my specialty is anything and everything related to words. The following are my areas of expertise as writer and editor: • Proofreading • Developmental editing / Line-editing / Copy-editing - light and medium • Formatting of manuscripts • Blogs and articles • Poetry • Daily devotions • Celebration of Life Speeches / Eulogies • Business Correspondence / Letters - Professional • Reflective Statements • Letters of Recommendation for academic institutions • Speeches for different individuals and societies • Designing business cards, logos, letterheads and banners • Compiling professional curricula vitae and resumés, cover letters and personal statements • Social media content creation and management across several digital platforms • Corporate and business branding • Website and marketing content Although having thorough experience in all of the above-mentioned, I would like to specify the following: • Wrote, edited, and graphically produced an 8-10 page e-zine, distributed to about 350-450 members of a district society over a 2 1/2-year period • Writer of a 30 000-word children's book in the final stages of editing • Social media content management - graphic and written - across all digital platforms of the district society, local businesses, and organizations • Creation of social media content across several digital platforms - graphic and written - for district society, local businesses, and organizations • Editor of several non-fiction and fiction manuscripts over the last five years, on Upwork; People Per Hour and nationally As a native English speaker with a unique vocabulary and grammar skillset, varied editing and writing experience, a 'think-out-of-the-box' mentality, and an uncanny editing intuition, my ability to ensure deliverables of outstanding quality is assured. Believing in commitment, reliability, and a meticulous eye for detail, my professional ethos encapsulates a spirit of excellence. My integrity is complemented by exceptional communication skills, collaborating to enhance consumer experience. Being an editor, I believe in partnering with authors to enhance, encourage, and inspire their 'voices,' assisting with molding, sculpting, and refining their words to reflect the clarity, strength, and emotion of their message. Although my clients are key, and their preferences remain my primary focus; it goes against my grain to flatter or inflate an author's ability or run an unethical social media campaign. When editing, I strive to give an unbiased, honest appraisal, in such a manner that an author is encouraged to hone their gift. This same ethos is equally applicable when assessing a brand's social media content and suggesting changes. My editing and writing experience stands me in good stead, in a digital world, there are no body language cues, and a brand has to garner consumer trust solely reliant on what an audience can read, hear, and see on screen. Responsive social media creation and management have become undeniably pivotal in the current faceless business environment. Therefore, facilitating a vision or marketing a concept is far more than stringing along a few words in a sentence...words have to be palatable and specific to a consumer audience while emanating the essence and fullness of their vowel and consonant fragrance. Words are critical in brokering consumer trust, and although a picture can paint a thousand words, words have the power to start, and end, wars. In understanding the fine nuances of conveying a memorable, distinctive, and emotive brand message, a brand can be enabled to enlarge its digital presence and consumer demographic. My professionalism is built on old-school integrity, reliability, optimism, and commitment, and ensures a distinctive and pleasurable business experience for my clients. As a last note, as part of my core values, I do not work on any content containing any form of eroticism or magic. Talk to me and allow me to bring out the very best of your text.Copyediting

Hello, and great to meet you! I’m a seasoned copy editor, proofreader, writer, and copywriter with a naturally sharp and, by now, also practised eye for detail. (I even edit billboards on the highway!) My English and Afrikaans language skills are superior, and in my work, I always aim for accuracy, clarity, and readability. My experience spans a range of fields, from medicine and research to biohacking, language learning, and education, and I always aim to tailor my approach to fit your specific needs. I furthermore thrive on learning new skills. Recently, I’ve been diving into Full Stack Development and Python to expand my technical expertise further. The Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) I've completed so far include: -Prompt Engineering for ChatGPT (Coursera) -Introduction to Google Search Engine Optimization (Coursera) -Making Sense of Health Evidence (FutureLearn) -Nutrition and Wellbeing (FutureLearn) -Start Writing Fiction (FutureLearn) My background in journalism and teaching also strengthens my ability to distill complex ideas into clear, accessible content. This allows me to translate and edit technical content with ease. Thanks to my “OCD-lite,” I often deliver polished work on the first submission. For larger projects, I collaborate with a qualified copy editor/proofreader at my own expense to ensure the highest quality. Beyond technical expertise, I take pride in meeting deadlines, maintaining excellent communication, and collaborating effectively with teams. You can view samples of my published work in my Upwork portfolio. If you’re looking for a meticulous editor, proofreader, or writer—and someone adaptable enough to wear a different hat, if needed—I’d love to help! But before we discuss how I can contribute to your project’s success ... no "prove your skill free of charge with my 2000-word sample", please. Upwork advises against doing work for free, and I have yet to land a job after a free trial. Of course, I am more than willing to do a trial, but for a fee, please. This has always worked out well for both my clients and me. Hope to hear from you soon!Copyediting

Who am I? I'm a wordsmith with a dual mission: 1. Create engaging, well-researched, error-free content. 2. Edit copy to turn it into engaging, well-researched, error-free content. What is my superpower? I'm on a mission to eradicate ghastly grammar, poor punctuation, and tragic tenses. What can I do for you? 1. I can put your thoughts into words, writing deliberately or deliciously. 2. I can edit your copy to preserve your reputation and the English language. I am 60% right-brained and 40% left-brained. This ratio is terrific because I am right-brained enough to be successfully creative and left-brained enough to be organised and punctual. I can throw out the strangest queries and count on Catriona to guide me with insight and professionalism, and with a turnaround time that is enviable. She’s strong enough when it’s needed, and gentle enough when a writer’s new baby requires care. I have benefited greatly from her counsel. I wish every author a Catriona. It makes the world of difference.’ – Douglas Kruger, author of CHARACTERSCAN and THE MAN WHO NEVER WAS Reading the first pages of a promising manuscript gives me goosebumps, and I love guiding the writer in making that book the best it can be. As a senior editor for Penguin Random House, I worked on an array of titles, mainly novels but also nonfiction. I project-managed the South African edition of THE PROMISE by Damon Galgut, winner of the 2021 Booker Prize, and A SIN OF OMISSION by Marguerite Poland, winner of the Sunday Times Literary Award for Fiction in South Africa in 2021. I also edited and championed (loudly, shamelessly) JUNX by Tshidiso Moletsane, winner of the Sunday Times Literary Award for Fiction 2022, and was instrumental in launching Umuzi Trailblazer, an imprint for innovative novellas from Africa and its diaspora. I’ve worked on brilliant debuts (HOW TO HIDE INSIDE A THREE by Jane van der Riet, BURIED TREASURE by Sven Axelrad, THE MADHOUSE by TJ Benson) and novels by established writers such as John van de Ruit, author of the SPUD series, Lauren Beukes (AFTERLAND, BRIDGE), Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu (THE HISTORY OF MAN, THE QUALITY OF MERCY), Sally Andrew, author of the TANNIE MARIA series (THE SATANIC MECHANIC, DEATH OF THE LIMPOPO, THE MILK TART MURDERS), Michiel Heyns (EACH MORTAL THING) and Justin Fox (PLACE). I’ve evaluated countless manuscript submissions, written reader reports, developed manuscripts, coached authors, copy edited and proofread books for publication, and liaised with international book agents. Before my publishing career, I was a journalist, writing features for magazines and newspapers, and worked as features editor on the South African editions of O, THE OPRAH MAGAZINE and COSMOPOLITAN. I have an MA in Creative Writing, with distinction, from the University of Cape Town. As an author, I have written novels and nonfiction. I’ve also ghostwritten, from chapters on beautiful gardens for a coffee-table book to a savings and investment guide. As editor, I’ll help you fix any structural issues in your narrative, shape your story, polish your prose, and produce a final manuscript that connects with readers for maximum impact. To me, that’s what counts in storytelling: emotional connection. The task is to make those changes, whether large or small, that will help a reader feel invested in your story.Copyediting

If you are looking for someone who is passionate about communicating, has a deep understanding of anything to do with the investment, financial services or fintech industries, as well as personal finance and the global economy, get hold of me. I am skilled at distilling complex concepts into engaging content that stands out from the crowd and combine these with visual elements (infographics, images, graphics) that make the messaging even more powerful. I am an experienced writer, editor, communications manager and strategist, as well as former financial journalist, who became a communications consultant and freelance writer this year after working as a communications manager in the asset management industry for more than a decade. Before that I was a financial journalist for 15 years, covering economics, financial markets, the financial services sector and personal finance. I started out my career as an assistant economist at one of South Africa's largest banks. I am skilled at writing across a wide range of communications mediums, including websites, publications, brochures and social media. I can write insightful, research-based thought leadership articles and white papers, as well as short, punchy and engaging content and infographics. As Head of Communications at two of South Africa’s largest asset management companies, I managed a team of communications professionals. We produced a range of annual thought leadership publications, monthly magazines and an online blog. I conceptualised, set up and was publisher and editor of Richer Life, a monthly financial lifestyle magazine, produced and distributed in conjunction with Finance Week, a leading weekly financial publication. During my journalism career, I wrote an average of one cover story a month as economics editor for Finance Week in the mid-nineties. A few years later I covered the banking sector for Financial Mail during a period of significant activity for the industry, with many small, boutique investment banks setting up in competition with the “big four” banks. I conceptualised, set up and was publisher and editor of Richer Life, a monthly financial lifestyle magazine, produced and distributed in conjunction with Finance Week, a leading weekly financial publication. As a result of my interest in what it takes to be a true leader, I partnered with Business Report and Corporate Research Foundation in producing, writing and editing my brainchild, the annual South Africa’s Leading Managers publication. I edit efficiently and with a light touch, focusing on enhancing the rhythm and energy of the writing and always honouring the voice of the author, while making sure there are no grammar gremlins or typos. I have strong strategic communications and content marketing skills and am proactive, energised and passionate about my vocation.Copyediting

Welcome to my profile; may I introduce myself? I am an excellent editor, copy editor, and proofreader with an outstanding work ethic. I am very proud of my current 100% JSS with Upwork. British (UK) English is my native language, but I am also proficient in American (US) and Australian (AU) English. When working with your manuscript, article, blog or social media piece, I will avoid ever interfering with the integrity and tone of your work. I process all changes and corrections while maintaining your voice throughout. Using MS Word with tracked changes allows you to have the final say. You will completely control accepting or rejecting any of my changes or recommendations. I will add comments where necessary; these often become discussion points if you require further revisions. Selecting a stranger to touch your work is daunting; therefore, I recommend offering a sample of your work to be processed. This step allows the writer to evaluate the editor. This step is not necessary for short pieces but is a vital step for a long manuscript or ongoing assignment. We will treat this as an interview assessment; you will not be disappointed. To protect my client's confidentiality, I will never offer previous work samples. Upon completing your assignment, I will return two copies of your work. One will show all markup. The other will be a clean copy showing only my comments and recommendations. My resume includes Academic Works, Non-Fiction, Fiction & Young Adult, Children's, and Memoir/Journal. I specialize in non-fiction in the business genre, memoirs, and journals. I have attached book covers highlighting the vast array of subjects I have covered. I live in South Africa (timezone, +2hours). My work is accurate, and my processing is effective. Your work will receive my undivided attention as I schedule one project at a time. I will ensure that I plan your work to meet your deadline. I look forward to hearing from you. With kind regards, always. TracyCopyediting

I obtained my degree in Visual Communication from the Open Window Institute, with a focus on graphic design, photography and video. An important part of this included learning copywriting skills, and applying this to article writing and script writing. I am currently working as translator, transcriber and subtitler for various clients on a freelance basis. I have an interest in a wide range of subjects, have a very wide general knowledge, and am very passionate about reading. One of my favorite pastimes is attending and competing in quiz events. I have great research skills and can very quickly grasp concepts and context. I am fully bilingual (English and Afrikaans) and these were my two highest scoring subjects in school. I can easily translate between the two.Copyediting

“Where your talents and the world's needs cross, there lies your vocation.” — Aristotle As a woman of many talents, I pride myself in the ability to cultivate the written word into something truly heart-wrenching and timeless. My vocation lies in poetry, growing writers to their fullest potential, and making sure that even the smallest works look and feel monumental to the consumer. I run a Johannesburg-based publishing company called Chasing Dreams Publishing, having edited, developed and published an array of South African literature under our brand and independently. I have written copy for brands such as Writer's Bloc International, featured as a Ghost Writer for a locally acclaimed Young Adult Fantasy book series, as well as made guest appearances in online productions such as the Hear My Voice Poetry Relief Fund, the We Are Becoming More Than Enough web series, as well as taken a lead role in the Appreciate A Mosali documentary now recognized at the Rapid Lion International Film Festival. All of these opportunities were presented to me based entirely on my writing, my cultivation of the arts as well as my interconnectivity with humanity. It would be an honour and a privilege to assist you in bringing your ideas and your writing to fruition. SastaCopyediting
