Rigorously sourced research writing, grounded in fieldwork — every claim traceable to a primary source.
I'm an anthropologist, editor, and research writer with 18+ years across academic, policy, nonprofit, and media work. I turn dense, complex, or sensitive material into clear, accurate writing a non-specialist can actually use: reports, explainers, field studies, literature reviews, grant narratives, curriculum, and high-level editorial rewrites.
My core training is ethnographic — the qualitative, on-the-ground work most research can't reach. I do in-depth interviewing, participant observation, and applied and organizational ethnography: getting close to how people actually live and work, and rendering it faithfully and on the record. Eighteen months of field research in Papua New Guinea, and applied research alongside communities living next to large industrial and extractive projects, taught me to find sources, earn trust, and represent people accurately.
That work rests on strict sourcing discipline. Every factual claim traces to a named source — a peer-reviewed study, government or agency data, a public filing, a named interview — in original wording throughout. I spent four years as a Research Associate at the University of Michigan's Center for Social Solutions, on the future of work and the legacies of slavery, separating what the data supports from how interested parties frame it.
I also work fluently with AI as a research tool, held to strict human fact-checking and provenance. This is where the ethnographic and the analytical meet: the interviewing, verification, and judgment are exactly the human work software can't do. I've applied it on large-scale, multi-country research and reporting (AI-assisted analysis held to a human grading framework, delivered publication-ready) and on consulting briefs that condense dozens of conflicting sources into a single ranked, decision-bearing synthesis.
Areas of focus
- Qualitative & ethnographic research — in-depth interviewing, participant observation, applied & organizational ethnography, systems mapping
- Research writing & cross-disciplinary synthesis — messy, multi-source material into clear, ranked, decision-bearing analysis, every claim's provenance kept
- Fact-checking, source verification, and information literacy
- AI-assisted research & reporting at scale — large multi-country report work with a grading framework and publication-ready editorial assessment
- Editorial leadership — peer-review management, manuscript development, and rewriting across 25+ years; co-founded academic journals, independent presses, and research initiatives
- Curriculum and educational content design
- Grant narratives and policy-facing explainers
- Clients come to me for fieldwork-grounded qualitative research, exceptional synthesis across disciplines, authoritative writing built on real sources, careful handling of complex or sensitive subjects, and editorial work that sharpens clarity, structure, and voice — delivered on deadline.
Whether the material is a body of literature, an organization, or a pile of conflicting sources, the work is the same: make sense of a complex system and render it so someone can actually act on it.

For 32 years, I worked in educational and academic publishing, first as a content editor for Harcourt Brace and Holt, Rinehart and Winston and then as Vice President and Director of Humanities for McGraw-Hill Education. In that role, I oversaw publication of all humanities projects and ensured that MHE rose to become the leading humanities publisher.
• In 2014, I left MHE to return to my first love--hands-on editing.
• I have worked for a variety of clients, including MHE, Contentra Technologies, The Today Foundation, and MDPI, an open-access publisher of international academic, scientific, and professional journals.
• I am equally comfortable with developmental editing, line editing, and copy editing and have a great love of and respect for the English language.
• I hold a B.A., cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, from Washington and Lee University, with a double major in history and communications and an M.S. in Education, summa cum laude, with an emphasis on instructional design, from Northern Illinois University.
• Having so much editorial experience, I am naturally experienced with CMS, ACS, MLA, AMA, and APA styles. While I do not have the latest iteration of each memorized, I know where to look to find the answers quickly.
• I have worked in a variety of CMSs, including Habitat, InCopy, InDesign, and LaTex.
• I believe that active communication is key when undertaking a project. Keeping all stakeholders informed effectively deals with small issues before they become major ones and streamlines product development.

Content Director | Writer | Editor | YMYL | 50+ | I Build Systems and Do the Work
If you want someone who does more than talk strategy and hand you a plan, I do the work.
I fix all of that. And then I stick around to make sure it keeps working.
Content operations and editorial systems
If you have multiple websites, a team, and no clear process holding it together, that is exactly what I fix. I build the workflows, write the instructions your team can use, review the work, and help projects not fall through the cracks, without you chasing anyone. I manage the team too, including hiring, onboarding, payments, feedback, and retention. You get a running operation, not just a strategy document.
Content that gets found on Google and in AI search
When someone searches on Google, asks ChatGPT, or reads a Google AI-generated answer, your content needs to show up in those results. That does not happen by accident. I structure content so it gets cited and surfaced by AI search tools, identify where your content is being passed over and why, turn underperforming pages into traffic and visibility drivers, and build the connected topic structure that search engines and AI tools reward. If your content is not showing up in AI-generated answers in your industry, that is a gap your competitors will fill first.
Health, legal, financial, and other high-trust content
Some industries have to meet a much higher standard. One wrong fact in health or financial content is not just an embarrassment; it can cause real harm and real liability. I have spent years building editorial systems for businesses in these categories, including addiction treatment, healthcare, elder care, financial services, legal, and education. I know what it takes to produce content that meets those standards at scale, including building medical review workflows and compliance-aware editorial processes.
The 50-plus market
Adults over 50 control more than half of US consumer spending, and most marketing either ignores them or gets the tone completely wrong. I specialize in reaching this audience. I bring both professional experience and personal perspective to this work, and that combination is hard to find.
I do the work
I am not a consultant who hands you a plan and disappears. When I say I build systems, I mean I build them, brief by brief, workflow by workflow. When I say I manage the team, I mean I am in the contracts, reviewing the drafts, processing the payments, and sending the feedback. Strategy without execution is just an expensive opinion. I bring both.
Industries
Health and high-trust: healthcare, emerging medical research, veterinary, addiction treatment and rehab, senior services, elder care, legal, financial services, cybersecurity, education, nonprofits, faith-based organizations
Luxury and premium: high-end events, beauty, spas, yachts, exotic car rentals, premium products and services
Creative and entertainment: musicians, artists, producers, comedians
Events and experiences: farm parties and events, birthday events, pony rides and mobile petting zoos, carriage rides, corporate events, weddings, mobile entertainment
Home, property, and trades: real estate, commercial development, property management, home remodeling, roofing, HVAC, plumbing, cleaning services, moving and relocation, specialty lighting
Industrial and automotive: steel, oil, manufacturing, supply chain, transportation, logistics, automotive, tire shops, car washes
Travel and local: tourism, bus tours, city guides, hospitality
Pet industry: veterinary, pet retail, grooming, boarding
Digital and e-commerce: direct-to-consumer brands, online courses, web publishing, crypto, blockchain
Also: agriculture, fitness and wellness, CBD, cannabis, marketing agencies, and startups across sectors
From first-time entrepreneurs to large companies managing international content operations. Extensive agency work under NDA in New York City, Nashville, Houston, and Columbus.
I serve as Director of Editorial and Content Operations for Pacific Shores Research Group, a digital publishing company with a portfolio of healthcare and higher education websites. I also serve as Director of Content Strategy and Operations for Sweet Sixtee, a national luxury brand dedicated to reimagining how women experience turning 60. Additional active engagements include FR Let's Talk and Literally Magazine, a teen media brand covering podcast and print, and Dogs Reign, a personal brand I am building in my spare time around dogs and the human experience of healing, because everyone is recovering from something, whether that is grief, loss, a hard season, a health battle, or simply the weight of being human.
If your content is not performing, your competitors are showing up in AI search, and you are not, or your operation is growing faster than the systems behind it, that is the conversation I am built for. Let's fix it.
