Since retiring from academia, I have been working with Ph.D. students and faculty members to help them achieve their writing goals by serving as a native-English editor, mentor, and tutor. I have assisted them with their thesis and/or efforts to publish their manuscripts.
I am Professor Emeritus at Purdue University and have a Ph.D. in business from the University of Minnesota with 40+ years of experience in researching, writing, editing, and publishing work in business-related and other social science-related disciplines (e.g., marketing, management, MIS, accounting, industrial/organizational psychology, health administration). My clients--who are in both the social and hard sciences--have been faculty members, as well as Ph.D. and master's students, from the U.S. and Europe, as well as from such countries as Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Japan, China, India, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Egypt, Nigeria, Iraq, and Iran. Accordingly, I have an extensive background editing work from both native-English and non-native-English language writers. In addition, I have chaired or been a member of Ph.D. and master's students thesis committees, assisting students in all aspects of their thesis research--including editing the final product and getting it published in SCI journals.
Having published over 200 peer-reviewed SCI journal articles, my work has appeared in Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Retailing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Academy of Management Journal, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of International Business Studies, Leadership Quarterly, Human Relations, Journal of Vocational Behavior, and Sloan Management Review, among others. One co-authored article that appeared in the Journal of Marketing was voted by the AMA Sales SIG as one of the top ten most influential articles in the selling and sales management literature in the 20th century. Also, I am a former editor of a journal, have served on several editorial review boards, and have co-authored three books.
I have extensive experience assisting others in researching, writing, editing, and revising their work. I have been a research and publishing mentor for numerous graduate-level students and faculty members; indeed, mentoring is something I truly enjoy and at which I have been successful. When mentoring, I treat mentees as peers, not subordinates. Most recently my freelancer role has been to help clients (1) conceptualize their research idea clearly and to provide adequate conceptual support for it, (2) identify the idea's importance vis-à-vis academics and practitioners, and (3) define the key purpose of their work, as well as (4) closely scrutinize their manuscript as would a journal editor and/or reviewer (e.g., noting weaknesses, gaps, lack of clarity) and (5) edit their manuscript to correct writing errors and enhance lucidity.
Admittedly, most editors do superlative work. What distinguishes me from many editors, however, are the following characteristics: numerous publications of academic work in SCI journals, keen familiarity and experience with the thesis-writing and academic-publishing processes, co-authorships with colleagues from various disciplines in the social sciences, acute knowledge of requisite jargon for academic publishing, extensive experience in mentoring graduate students and faculty, and a deeply-felt obligation to assist the next generation of Ph.D.'s for success.
Whether you are a master's or Ph.D. student, a faculty member, or a professional researcher desiring research, writing, and/or editing assistance, I will be delighted to work with you--regardless of your fluency in English. My hourly rate is negotiable, and a lump-sum fee per project is negotiable as well.
Please allow me to offer one explanatory paragraph about my current efforts on Upwork. Because I have a bevy of private clients now, I rarely check Upwork for jobs any longer. I tend to do so when I am in between projects. If you read reviews from my former Upwork clients, though, you will see that I have provided an extremely high level of service to them. Thank you.
