Your CPA jumps 30% overnight. Two big POs hit. Shopify payout doesn't cover the inventory bill. ROAS dips below 2:1. Competitor tweets "We hit 40% percent of revenue from email and SMS!". All on a Tuesday morning. Gut punch. Something....has to give. Thankfully your customers will do all the giving you need. If they're simply seduced into whipping out that sweet card more often. For bigger carts. For years. But you already tried hiring for help with email and they just didn't care like you do. Chasing them down only to get cookie-cutter templates, lifeless AI copy and Canva design. But generic doesn't build real brands. Emotional connection does. Personality and stories. Chatting like a childhood buddy that lives next door. Every word crafted like the founder wrote it at dawn over coffee (not an intern with a swipe file). Imagine... Strategy, creative, segmentation, deliverability, all humming quietly in the background. Jaw-droppingly stunning emails are going out, reeling in huge sales. Email and SMS revenue climbs past 35%. Real metrics like margins, ROAS, LTV, CAC, and AOV all widening (not just vanity opens or clicks.). Your entire back end, handled. No briefing, micromanaging or chasing. Now you can stay in product/ops to put out fires and push the big needle-movers. An extra 10 hours a week appear in your calendar so you can have a life, while topline still grows. This is not a pipe dream with me on your team. However, as a Klaviyo Master, Partner and well over $20 million generated for clients to date, I already have a loyal stable of awesome clients - so naturally my schedule is very nearly full. But, if we get along and I'm 100% sure I can help your unique brand, then you will be making a LOT of money with my help. So if you're looking for someone to help you scale with Klaviyo email marketing, click the green "Invite To Job" or white "Hire Now" button at the top right of this page. Looking forward to discussing your project :) - Wilding. PS: Here's what clients have said about my email marketing services on Upwork: - “It was an awesome ROI and we were able to scale much, much more because of that added revenue.” - “The margins before we started working with you was…18% and recently it was 24%…and that’s net margin.” - “He will make you far more money than you spend with him so you’d be a dummy to not work with him." - “We’ve tried other email marketers before and Wilding is by far the best we’ve ever tried.” Check out my profile below for email designs, results and 20+ more Upwork reviews just like these...

Most newsletters don’t fail because of bad content. They fail because the system behind them is broken. Most email marketing setups fail at three critical points: – Poor deliverability (emails don’t reach inboxes) – Weak automation (no consistent engagement) – No structure to capture and convert subscribers I specialize in fixing and building complete email systems that solve these problems from the ground up. I work with Beehiiv, Substack, and Mailchimp to create newsletters that don’t just send emails; but actually grow, engage, and convert. Here’s how I can help: ⚙️ Setup & Deliverability • Full newsletter setup and configuration • Domain authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) • Inbox placement optimization • Platform migration without data loss 🔁 Automation & Systems • Welcome sequences and onboarding flows • Automated nurture and engagement sequences • Conversion-focused email funnels • Subscriber tagging and segmentation • Re-engagement campaigns 📈 Growth & Performance • Newsletter growth systems (lead magnets, referrals) • Open rate and click optimization • Email list cleaning and performance improvement • A/B testing for campaigns 🌐 Landing Pages & Funnel Setup • High-converting landing pages for email capture • Signup forms and lead magnet integration • Simple website or page setup connected to your email system • Funnel flow from visitor → subscriber → customer The goal is simple: A complete system where people find you, subscribe, stay engaged, and eventually become customers. Not just emails - but a system that works behind the scenes. If your current setup isn’t doing that, let’s fix it. Kindly send a message NOW and let's discuss. I'm a lifecycle email marketing and automation specialist focused on lifecycle email builds, funnel strategy, deliverability, platform migrations, and ongoing automation management across ActiveCampaign, Brevo, MailerLite, Kit, GoHighLevel, Customer io, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Drip, Omnisend, and Kajabi. I work with coaches, course creators, e-commerce stores, B2B service businesses, agencies, and publishers to build email marketing systems that actually run on their own, without the half-finished automations and broken funnels most setups get stuck with. Most business owners I work with have the tools already. An ActiveCampaign account with three automations that were never finished. A GoHighLevel build that cost money to set up and hasn't been touched since. A Klaviyo flow that fires twice or not at all. Leads coming in through ads or organic traffic and no real system on the other end to catch them. That's the gap I fill. A lot of freelancers do email marketing as one part of a broader offering. For me it's the whole thing. Strategy, platform setup, sequences, CRM configuration, funnel logic, integrations, deliverability, ongoing management. If it sits between your business and your customers and it's supposed to run automatically, that's my territory. On lifecycle and full builds. A leadership coach came to me with 3,000 contacts and a Kartra setup that wasn't working. I migrated everything to Drip, built the email funnel for his Teachable course, and grew his list past 8,000. The funnel got 5 sales on day one it went live. For an e-commerce fashion brand I wrote and designed a 37-email customer journey in Mailchimp covering welcome, abandoned cart, anniversary, seasonal, and win-back, all mapped out as a complete lifecycle. A real estate client needed a full GoHighLevel build covering buyer and seller lead generation, automated booking, missed call follow-up, Facebook ad funnels, and internal alerts for their agents. Built it from the ground up. On segmentation and tag architecture. A B2B service business needed a Typeform-to-Kit quiz funnel routing subscribers into ten different behavioural outcomes. I built the tag architecture and the email sequences that fired off each outcome, so every quiz-taker received a sequence matched to their actual answers. On platform migrations. Moving a business from one tool to another without breaking what's already working is a regular part of what I do. I've handled ActiveCampaign to Brevo migrations, HubSpot to ActiveCampaign with Salesforce integration, Intercom to Customer io, Kartra to Drip, and Zoho to MailerLite. Full contact data transfer, segmentation rebuild, automation rebuild on the new platform, and integration with whatever else the business runs on like Shopify, WooCommerce, WordPress, or a custom checkout. On deliverability. A client who migrated from HubSpot to ActiveCampaign came to me with a deliverability problem. SPF, DKIM, and DMARC were misconfigured and emails were going to spam. I fixed the authentication, cleaned up the sender reputation, handled the Salesforce integration, and got them back to proper inbox placement. If your open rates have dropped or your emails are landing in spam, that's a fixable problem and I've fixed it before. On ongoing management. For two years before going freelance I ran email strategy and funnel implementation for a medspa marketing agency in the United Kingdom, managing the automations, sequences, and funnels running across their entire client portfolio. That experience means I'm comfortable inside a system that needs constant tuning, not just one-off setup. Recent work also includes a media publishing client migrated from Zoho to MailerLite across two WordPress sites with RSS-to-email workflows rebuilt on the new platform, and a UK food and drink company mid-migration from ActiveCampaign to Brevo right now with wholesale data restructured into Brevo's Companies CRM, custom checkout attributes built out, and WooCommerce sync configured. If your automation is broken, half-built, or just not doing what it should, send me a message describing what you're working with and what's going wrong. I'll tell you within 24 hours whether it's something I can fix and roughly what it involves.

I make email your highest-ROI channel, not an afterthought. I specialise in Klaviyo for ecommerce and DTC brands. Flow architecture, segmentation strategy, deliverability, and the full creative stack. I write and design every email myself, so you get technical depth and copy that actually converts, without having to manage two different people. 𝗜𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝟱𝟱.𝟯𝟳% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵. £63,547 from campaigns. £28,386 from automated flows. May 2026. "Working with Sam has been one of the strongest decisions we've made for our brand. His approach is insane. He understands our brand to a level that most freelancers simply don't." Josh & Arran, Founders, Illicit Bloc Clothing 𝗕𝗧𝗦 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝘆 𝗠𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗚𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽: 𝟳,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻-𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝟯𝟬 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀. £𝟭𝟴,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. "In two weeks Sam completely transformed our email marketing strategy. The results speak for themselves." Sarah BTS Army Merch Gift Shop 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 Before we even talk about working together, I will send you a personalised Loom walkthrough. No sales calls, no discovery calls where someone tries to close you. Just me walking you through ideas specific to your brand, what I would prioritise, and where I see the biggest opportunities for your email programme. You keep that value whether you decide to work with me or not. Before you choose someone to work with on your email marketing, choose the person who understands your customers as well as you do. Once a client comes on board, the first thing I look at is not your flows. It is your pop-up form and your offer architecture. Because if you cannot get people into the ecosystem the right way, with the right offer, the right positioning, the right entry point, it does not matter how good your flows are. The attributed revenue numbers will not move. This is where most email marketers skip straight to the fun stuff and wonder why the results are average. Then we build the flows. All the core ones: welcome, browse abandonment, cart abandonment, checkout abandonment, post-purchase and win-back. But also some you probably have not heard of. The ones that most brands do not have set up because most freelancers do not know they exist. That is where a lot of the hidden revenue lives. But here is what separates a basic flow build from one that actually performs. Customers are getting smarter every single day. A generic email sequence sent to everyone the same way is something people can smell from a mile off. A potential new customer who has never bought from you needs to be spoken to completely differently from someone who has already purchased twice. Different messaging, different offers, different timing, different psychology. You cannot treat these people the same and expect the same results. Every flow I build routes people down different paths depending on exactly where they are in the customer journey. First-time visitors, warm leads, first-time buyers, repeat customers, lapsed customers. Each group gets communication that actually speaks to where they are, not a one-size-fits-all sequence blasting the same email to your entire list. Then we look at campaigns. How many are you sending? To which segments? What is the actual strategy? Most brands either blast their full list once a week or barely send at all. The way I see it, campaigns are ads. Every campaign you send is pushing people back into your custom flows, back into the buying cycle, back into the ecosystem you have built. The more intentional your campaign strategy, the harder your flows work. They compound each other. That is the system. Entry point, flows, campaigns. All three working together. That is how you get email consistently pulling 40 to 45% of your total store revenue. Message me and I will send you a personalised Loom within 24 hours so you can see exactly what is possible for your brand before committing to anything.

Email marketer hiring guide

Email marketers build strategic marketing campaigns that drive revenue, nurture leads, and strengthen customer relationships across the entire customer lifecycle. From crafting high-converting subject lines to designing sophisticated automation workflows, skilled email marketers combine creative copywriting with data-driven optimization to maximize engagement and ROI.

Whether you need someone to launch a welcome series, rebuild your abandoned cart sequence, or develop a complete email marketing strategy, hiring a professional brings both technical expertise and strategic thinking. They understand deliverability best practices, segmentation strategies, compliance requirements, and how to turn analytics into actionable improvements.

What does an email marketer do?

An email marketer is a content marketer who designs, writes, and optimizes email marketing campaigns that engage subscribers, drive conversions, and strengthen customer relationships. Beyond writing emails, they align campaign goals with broader business objectives to generate revenue and retain customers.

Their work often includes:

  • Campaign strategy. Planning targeted emails for promotions, onboarding, product updates, or newsletters.

  • Copywriting and design. Crafting subject lines, writing persuasive content with email copywriting specialists, and ensuring mobile-friendly design.

  • Technical implementation. Using ESPs like Mailchimp, Klaviyo, HubSpot, or ActiveCampaign to build, send, and track campaigns.

  • Segmentation and personalization. Tailoring messages based on user behavior, preferences, or past purchases.

  • Automation workflows. Building triggered email sequences with workflow specialists for onboarding, reengagement, or post-purchase journeys.

  • Testing and optimization. Running A/B tests on subject lines, CTAs, and layouts to improve performance.

  • Deliverability and compliance. Working with deliverability consultants to ensure emails land in inboxes while staying compliant with GDPR and CAN-SPAM.

  • Analytics and reporting. Tracking campaign performance and making data-driven improvements.

Companies hire email marketing specialists to increase the ROI from one of their most cost-effective marketing channels. Whether it's an abandoned cart series or a nurture sequence, email marketers help businesses turn messages into measurable outcomes.

How to hire an email marketer on Upwork

Finding the right email marketer for your project starts with a clear project scope and understanding what success looks like. Follow these steps to hire confidently on Upwork.

Step 1: Craft a targeted job post

A well-crafted job post attracts qualified email marketers who match your project needs. In your post:

  • Outline your goals, industry context, and technical requirements

  • Specify the tools in your workflow, such as Mailchimp, Klaviyo, HubSpot, or ConvertKit

  • Define the project scope and expected deliverables like email copy, template design, or segmentation strategy

To draft a tailored post quickly, try the Job Post Generator powered by Uma™, Upwork’s Mindful AI. Describe what you need in a few sentences, and Uma will draft a job post in seconds. You can also review email marketer job description templates for inspiration.

Step 2: Filter and evaluate candidates

Taking a systematic approach to evaluating your candidates can help you identify email marketers whose skills match your project requirements.

  • Have Uma give instant interviews and side-by-side comparisons

  • Use Upwork’s filters to find candidates by rate, location, and experience

  • Read proposals to verify that candidates understand your needs

  • Check portfolios for industry expertise relevant to your business

  • Check for technical skills with specific CRMs, automation tools, and deliverability protocols (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)

Step 3: Interview your top choices

Quick video interviews give you the chance to ask any questions you have left for your top candidates, and to get a feel for what a collaboration with them might be like.

  • Schedule and conduct interviews within Upwork messaging to get instant transcripts and summaries from Uma

  • Use interview questions to assess technical skills and strategic thinking

  • Ask about their segmentation approach

  • Have them walk you through examples of A/B tests they've run

  • Discuss their process for troubleshooting deliverability issues

If you’re unfamiliar with interviewing or working with freelancers, you can review common interview questions for freelancers.

Step 4: Agree on scope and begin work

Before the person you choose can begin work, you’ll need to have a clear contract in place. Contracts protect both parties and help collaborations be successful from beginning to end.

  • Use Upwork’s tools and services for creating and managing contracts, and processing payments

  • Choose fixed-price contracts for projects with clear deliverables, such as a single newsletter template or welcome series

  • Break large projects into milestones, such as creating email variations, running an A/B test, and then optimizing based on the results

  • Choose hourly contracts for ongoing work, such as supporting an ongoing campaign or drafting periodic newsletters

Frequently asked questions

Is hiring an email marketer worth it?

Yes, if you want measurable results without mastering the discipline yourself. Email marketers bring specialized expertise — they develop data-driven strategies, optimize the customer journey, and consistently improve performance. Email marketing delivers one of the highest ROIs across digital channels, with conversion rates averaging 2-3%. By hiring a professional, you avoid common mistakes and build a sustainable program that generates long-term value.

What skills should I look for in an email marketer?

Look for both technical and strategic skills. Technical expertise includes experience with ESPs (Mailchimp, Klaviyo, HubSpot), marketing automation, HTML/CSS for templates, and analytics tools. Strategic abilities include strong copywriting, audience segmentation, A/B testing methodology, and deliverability best practices. The best email marketers combine creative thinking with data analysis.

How long does it take to see results from email marketing?

Initial results typically appear within 4-8 weeks for single email marketing campaigns. Building a mature program with sophisticated automation and optimized segmentation usually takes 3-6 months. Quick wins include welcome series and abandoned cart emails, while lead nurturing sequences require more time but deliver compounding results.

What is the 80/20 rule in email marketing?

The 80/20 rule suggests that 80% of results come from 20% of your campaigns or efforts. Email marketers use this principle to focus on high-impact areas like optimized CTAs, segmentation, and automation workflows.

Is email marketing still effective today?

Yes, email marketing remains one of the highest-performing digital channels with strong ROI. Because email gives you direct access to your audience without social media algorithm limitations, it remains powerful for increasing engagement, driving sales, and building long-term customer relationships.
