As a child, I was named "Best Storyteller" by teachers and peers; as an adult, I'd edit my friends' stories just for fun. Now it's my career, and I love to use my natural and acquired skills to help written communication fulfill its purpose—whether that's to educate or entertain. In 2010, I started freelance writing as a side gig, crafting B2C content and telling true stories. After completing my B.A. in English in 2016, I realized my true calling is proofreading and editing. Since then, I've completed numerous proofreading and copyediting/line editing projects, specializing in the following: *Christian and inspirational nonfiction and fiction *historical nonfiction and fiction *bio pages and blogs *college admissions essays *children's/YA fiction Contact me for a quote for your project, and I'll help make your writing the very best it can be.Christian Theology

In addition to working for decades doing full-time editorial work at major publishing companies, I have completed a significant number of editorial and proofreading freelance projects, both fiction and nonfiction, over the span of thirty years. My education has focused on history, religion, and genealogy, but my areas of interest are far wider. Until March 2025, I was a contract production editor for Alpha Publishing, working on their Internet/Computer/Technology school textbooks (Kindergarten through Grade 12). In addition to proofreading and copy editing, my responsibilities included photo selection, page quality assurance, and style consistency. Prior to that, for over twenty years I was a senior proofreader at the custom college textbook division of Pearson, handling a wide range of subjects and project types. As the focus of the company transitioned to online materials, I did copy editing, proofreading, and other quality assurance tasks in a variety of media. In the years before that, I worked for the trade book division of Addison-Wesley as a production editor, working on non-fiction books such as Friday Night Lights. I also worked for D.C. Heath as a copy editor, focusing on elementary through high school textbooks. I'm familiar with a range of style guides, including the Chicago Manual of Style, APA, AP, Words into Type, and others. In addition, I'm very proficient with Microsoft Word (including Track Changes), Adobe Acrobat for pdfs, and PowerPoint.Christian Theology

I've been a writer since I knew how to form words on paper. I started with picture books about octopi in shoe stores, and my ambition grew with age. I completed two novels in high school. Throughout college, I wrote various book reviews and articles, several of which were published. I wrote poetry that was published in the university's journal, and I continued to write various stories and poems for classes. I worked in the university library for 2 years and learned many valuable research skills. I was also hired by a former history professor at the school to type up a book he'd written, editing grammar and typos as I went. Both of these jobs helped me learn a strong attention to detail and how to help others accomplish their goals through my communication skills. After college, I completed a transition to teaching program and have since worked as a high school English teacher for nearly 2 years. I've learned how people learn, I've learned about the struggles that many children in the inner city face, I've learned about the struggles of our current educational system, and I've learned about the difficulties of communicating across cultural and socioeconomic barriers. It's a challenge, but when it happens effectively, it's beautiful. I have a passion for communicating clearly and helping people to understand the world, their own minds, and the people around them. I will work to use my writing abilities to make this happen to the very best of my abilities.Christian Theology

Born in New York City but migrated to Texas in 2005, my creative approach is a mirror image of the two cultures: straight to the point, with a hint of "southern charm" and humor. I'm an experienced social media marketer and copywriter who lives and breathes good content, story-driven messaging, quality SEO, and well-thought-out strategy. I have worked with influencers, startups, and small businesses here in Texas and across the US, and I also work with a lot of founders and investors as a part of a investment grant program based in Dallas. I have taken many of Donald Miller's courses, own all of his books, and very much subscribe to his StoryBrand framework in my writing of copy, no matter the industry. I have worked for agencies, and on my own as a freelancer so I can adapt to a variety of writing environments and client work. I also perform significant research and compile relevant data and stories to beef up any copy I provide. I refuse to use any AI tools in my writing or content creation with the exception of spell checking with Grammarly. Looking forward to working with you! ⚡️Christian Theology

UPDATE: I will begin accepting work again as of July 2024. I am an SEO content editor for a very innovative, industry-leading agency. My work sometimes takes me away from my first love, though: the content. So I do some freelancing as well, just to spend some time on what I really enjoy. What sets me apart from other writers? First, I have been in charge of hiring and training freelance writers for my organization, so I know what it's like to be on your side of the project. I know what it's like to trust a new writer with a deadline and hope the content you get is worth outsourcing. I know how important it is that work is submitted on time, and I know what it's like asking for revisions and edits. That's why my work as a freelance writer is always on time. I only accept assignments I can fully commit to, so you always get 110%. Second is my deep experience with modern SEO. Creating real results is about more than keywords. - Please click over to my specialized "Content Writing" profile for more details on my SEO expertise. - The case study below also demonstrates the kinds of growth my content creates. I am also an experienced Christian writer and teacher. I have written for local church websites and blogs, and created inspiring Christian devotionals. I researched and wrote hundreds of Christian sermons during the decade that my husband and I lead a youth ministry. Other areas of expertise: - International adoption - Music - B2B industries, especially tech-related - Food and wine - History - Travel - Parenting - Health and wellness My content site - contentandcommas.com See some of my parenting content here - mamalionco.com/blogs/mama-life Health and wellness content here - foodzie.com/about/alexis/ I look forward to hearing about how I can help with whatever content you need!
