Please read completely as many common questions are answered here. Born and raised in Ohio, I am a native English speaker and have a BA in English from Kent State University. For five years, I taught language, reading, and honors creative writing to junior and senior high students, writing my own drama and creative writing curriculum. Over the course of my career, I have released nearly a dozen YA novels, short story collections, a collection of plays, a cookbook, and a book on writing. I have worked as a freelance writer / ghostwriter in both non-fiction and fiction capacities, writing everything from captions and copy to short stories and novels in myriad genres. While my forte is fiction, I do accept non-fiction work. I've created characters and outlines, as well as writing from a provided outline, and can work with as much or as little as the client wishes. All work is 100% original, meaning that unless otherwise instructed by a client, I do not outsource work to other freelancers and I do not use generative AI programs. None of my writing, including any provided samples, were assisted or created by AI. Much of my work as a ghostwriter has made Amazon's top 100 ebook lists at least once, and I have had more than one make USA Weekend's Bestseller list. I have been freelancing since 2002 and have been writing full-time since December 2012. As I sign NDAs with all of my clients and while some do give permission for me to use parts of that work as writing samples, I cannot provide full chapters of any work I have done for clients. I can only provide chapters from my own work, which is all YA. I do not write samples over 500 words on request without payment. I require all communication to be through a messaging platform, which means no phone or Zoom interviews, though I am happy to set a time for an Upwork message chat interview. My current Upwork hourly rate is $40/hr and my current Upwork per word rate is $0.06/word. This is based on my experience and what my current clients are paying. Outlining, story development, and revision options vary for per word / fixed rate work and are not provided without additional compensation. I work on a first-come, first-serve basis, and that comes by contract, not discussion. I can advise what my schedule looks like at any given time, but until a contract is signed and a project accepted, that may change. I do not accept any work that promotes / portrays any of the following in a positive manner: homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, racism, hatred, or blasphemy of any religion.

AI Policy: I do not use generative AI to create any aspect of my work. I do not work on projects that use generative AI. NOVELS, STORIES, SCREENPLAYS You’ve got an awesome idea for a novel, story, or screenplay, but you need help getting it done. Let’s make it happen. Whether it's consulting as a developmental editor or ghostwriting stories from beginning to end, I've helped lots of screenwriters and novelists develop, refine, improve, or simply finish their stories. I can help you, too. NONFICTION If you’re a Subject Matter Expert (SME), you’re already an authority in your field. You’ve worked with important clients and developed best practices that make a difference. Turn that expertise into a book, article, or other asset and enhance your authority among your peers and clients. We’ll work together to establish a logical structure, minimize jargon, and organize your personal brain trust into an engaging project that delivers your unique talents, insight, and voice. ELEARNING I've created hundreds of teaching narratives and scenario scripts for clients like Turo, CareAcademy, McKinney-Vento, the UAE government's New Media Academy, Bedrock Financial, Market Motive, and Simplilearn. Let's talk about who your learners are, what your teaching goals are, and how best to keep participants engaged with improved completion rates. PROCESS My process for non-fiction books, novels, elearning, and script writing is rooted in "character-driven storytelling" -- we'll define who your "hero" is (your reader, learner, or main character), what they want or need to accomplish, what's standing in their way, what they need to do to achieve their goals, and how their life will be changed when they succeed. TESTIMONIALS “Forgive this moment of pride, but I actually am proud of this. Chip Street, did I thank you enough for your wisdom and talent?” -- John Marshall, Author, “Free Is Bad” “This is a masterpiece. It looks perfect. I would never have thought to add that extra bit. Genius! Can’t thank you enough!” -- CM, Founder, Brandafy, Modern Income Mastery “Chip was a pleasure to work with! Always timely, quick to respond, and extremely detailed.” -- Rachel Siu, Marketing Program Manager, Turo Canada “We had a fantastic experience working with Chip and would recommend him enthusiastically. He is an imaginative writer, a clear communicator, and a proactive teammate. He consistently delivered high quality work on time, and he incorporated feedback quickly and effectively. I hope to work with him again on future projects!” -- Elizabeth Slavitt, Founder, Shakespeers “The best history of the web that I’ve read…” -- Andreas Ramos, Professor, Author, Senior Fellow @ Silicon Valley Research Institute “I put it in the same category as ‘The Social Dilemma‘ on Netflix. Highly recommended.” -- David Prinzing, CTO Zicasso “I recently consulted with Chip on my psychological thriller screenplay and it was by far the best move I could’ve ever made. What I received far exceeded my expectations.” -- Jeff Warrick, Screenwriter, Producer, IgniteProductions “I’m so grateful for the feedback on the script – I don’t think it would have gotten to a better place on its own, regardless of how hard I tried. I spent a full year doing a re-write based on your notes, which I hope resulted in a better story. Thank you!” -- Jason Nicholson, Normal Network Film & Animation “Chip follows instructions with so little effort from me. He goes above and beyond and can’t help but think deeply and analyze every project he is working on. He will be an invaluable resource for any project you need assistance on. Definitely hire this person for your endeavors, you won’t be sorry!” -- Jennifer Ong, Bedrock Financial “I just read your comments. [It] definitely gives the kid motive, and helps me in directing the scene.” -- Ram Hernandez, Writer/Director, Red Rocket Films “We wouldn’t be the company we are without your work. Hugely grateful for your contributions!” -- Mindy Wallis, Instructional Designer, Care Academy “You did a terrific rewrite. Thank you for being so open and creative.” -- Stan Harris, eKidsFilms
