    Hello! Thank you for reviewing my profile. My name is Matthew Lewis. I am an attorney based in Dallas and operate a solo law firm. I use UpWork and other platforms to find new clients. Several of my business clients find employees and contractors on platforms such as UpWork so I try to go where my potential clients are looking. My practice is a mix of business support services (including litigation), estate planning & probate, employment issues, and immigration law. I have handled a wide range of matters, from suing a government official for failing to comply with state regulations to giving a presentation at a child's school. Also, I offer support services for other attorneys and law firms. Do you need a Motion for Summary Judgment (or a responsive brief) drafted so you can attend your child's recital? I'll handle it. Do you need someone deposed but find a date before close of discovery? Notice it and I'll show up. Sometimes you just need someone to review discovery responses and draft a deficiency letter. Let me help you so you can focus on higher level tasks on your cases. ---Flat Fee Pricing--- Unless required by statute or the project/situation requires hourly billing, I generally prefer not to bill anyone by the hour. I do my best to quote a flat fee to do the work you want. If it is complicated and difficult to quote, I will break the work down into stages and provide a range. This way, you can control your costs and budget accordingly. ---Virtual Practice--- I work from home. The COVID-19 Pandemic showed all of us how little we need a physical office to get our work done. I keep my costs down by working from my home office. If I need to meet with you, I will offer to come to your home. If we cannot meet there, my home is spacious and tastefully decorated. My preference is to meet at your home or business. Some types of legal work -- such as family law and estate planning -- benefit from home visits. Elders and children, for instance, often have trouble travelling or feeling comfortable in new environments. Business owners often keep important documents on-site for me to review then-and-there. ---Open Communication--- The biggest complaint people have about attorneys is that they do not communicate regularly or consistently. In contrast, I provide monthly updates to every client unless they expressly tell me they only want updates when there is something to pass along. When someone hires an attorney, often they are going through one of the most stressful times in their life. That's what your copywriter needs to do for you. It sounds simple, but if you've worked with other freelance copywriters before you've probably discovered that not all of them really get it. They get lost in the jargon they think will impress you, like "SEO" and "sales funnels" and "click-through rates." But tools don't make the professional. The way you convert prospects into buyers really comes down to how well your copywriter understands two things: your product and service, and your target customer's mind. UNDERSTANDING YOU: To hook your prospect, you need to make him see the features and benefits of your product or service directly make his life better. Solve a problem he can't otherwise solve. Help him save money, or make more of it. Good copywriting requires solid preparation, as much as is needed to make sure that your benefits to your prospects shine through in the copy. I've worked as a journalist, technical writer and attorney for almost three decades. All of these fields honed my interviewing and research skills, so even when confronted with a topic or item I haven't seen before, I can draw from others what I need to know to produce informative and persuasive sales copy. UNDERSTANDING YOUR PROSPECT: Features and benefits are important, but they're only half of the successful conversion equation. The other half is what we call, "psychographics." Which is a fancy word to say, "Learning what makes your prospect tick." You do this to some extent with demographics: Let's say for example that your prospects are men in their 40s and 50s, mostly college-educated, live in medium-to-large urban areas, and earn $100,000 or more annually. This information alone should tell your copywriter a lot about how to write to that type of audience. But there's more to it than that. Psychographics uses what you know, or can learn, about your prospect's emotional drivers to find and draw out enhanced benefits. It requires digging as deeply as possible into the "core" emotional needs of your prospect. Psychographics can require subtlety, but when your copywriter can skillfully weave in deeper benefits with the more obvious ones, the effect on the prospect is much more powerful. So let's wrap up: if you want a copywriter who knows all the "buzz words" like the ones I mentioned above but hasn't thought through the deeper logistics of preparing a solid marketing piece, there are plenty of them on Upwork. You can pay many of them a lot less, too. And get what you pay for. But if you're serious about your marketing project, and see your copywriter as an investment in maximizing your conversions instead of a "cost" to manage, then we should talk further about how I can help you craft an optimized, calculated and prospect-oriented profit-making strategy.
