Do you have an application essay or personal statement to write for admission to a competitive academic or professional program? Would you like to access the services of someone with the ability to multiply your chances of success many times over? For more than 30 years, I've been helping applicants from all over the world—in a wide range of fields—make their educational dreams come true. My unique value proposition as an admissions consultant may be summarized as follows: My educational credentials include degrees from some of the country’s top universities: Harvard, Northwestern and UC Berkeley. I'm also a published author of various articles and books, including some on college and graduate-level admissions. Over the decades, I've assisted literally hundreds of applicants to college and graduate/professional programs. Those decades of experience have enabled me to "crack the code," identifying the common set of principles that apply to the admissions process, regardless of academic level or area. With a master's from the Medill School of Journalism, I utilize my interviewing and reporting skills—honed over a lifetime—to help applicants first identify and then tell their most compelling stories. By means of creative brainstorming and expert use of question-and-answer techniques, I help applicants unearth content that makes for outstanding essays. I offer a wide range of application-related services, including assistance with: application strategies, application essays and personal statements for admission to college as well as graduate/professional school programs (e.g., law and medical school), supplemental/secondary essays, activities lists, resumes/CVs, portfolios, letters of recommendation, letters of continuing interest and letters of appeal. As one of the few real masters of the personal essay form who is currently available for hire, my hourly rate is a fraction of what consultants with somewhat comparable experience and credentials on this platform and elsewhere are charging for their services. If I have the privilege of assisting you with your applications, I guarantee that I will apply the same standards and approach that have earned me the scores of five-star reviews, as illustrated in this small sampling: "With Dan's help, I achieved my dream of admission to a Top-10 law school. I honestly don't think I could have done it without him." —David K. on Google "Dan helped get me into my first choice graduate school, as well as pretty much all the other schools I applied to. The only headache you'd get from using his help is having too many schools to choose from." —Katherine L. on Google "In a matter of two hours, Dan was able to craft my story and ideas into a personal statement (for a Computer Science Master's Program at an Ivy League school) that effectively communicated my vision and intentions. I was informed by the Program Director that it was my personal statement that had put my application over the top. I have Dan to thank for that." —Dennis C. on Google "From idea generation to editing, Mr. Berman was instrumental in the construction of my essays, which helped me get into my top choice, an Ivy League university." —Adarsh B. on Yelp "We were fortunate to get Dr. Berman's help for our son some 25 years ago. We started working with Dan on college application essays, then medical school, and then Harvard residencies. Dr. Berman helped make our family's dreams come true." —Mike K. on Yelp "Daniel helped me write my essay for an accelerated nursing program in just two hours and even looked at my resume because we had a little time left over. I got accepted and couldn't be happier." —Jess J. on Yelp "Dan was happy to help me, even on Christmas day! He truly cares about his clients and obviously really wanted me to succeed (which I did, by getting into a very competitive graduate program)." —Lilian Y. on Yelp "At my graduate school interview, the Assistant Dean of Admissions mentioned how great my essays were, which was thanks to Daniel's help." —Asa B. on Yelp "My daughter received early admission to her dream school, together with a full merit scholarship, which more than covered the cost of Mr. Berman's services!" —Paul Y. on Yelp "Dr. Berman boosted both my PhD applications and also my performance during interviews. I received several offers, including one from my dream school (Yale)!" —Hussein M. on Yelp To see these and scores of other reviews on the hosting platforms, google the phrase "Dan B Writing Editing San Jose CA" (on Yelp, see the link at the bottom of the profile page, for 50+ additional "filtered" reviews). For questions or to schedule a session, you're invited to contact me, as the first step on your way to making your own educational dreams come true! PLEASE BE AWARE that, by necessity, I am selective in terms of the clients with whom I choose to work. For this reason, I decline more job offers than I accept, with insufficient time for explanations.Post College

I am a doctoral-level neuropsychologist and school psychologist who is available to: - Create or proofread psychoeducational material - Proofread and edit technical/research reports, psychoeducational and neuropsychological assessment reports, dissertations, and blog/website content in the areas of psychology and neuropsychology - Develop/proofread your dissertation - Start or streamline a private practice or training program - Provide feedback or review your new book (related to an area of my expertise) - Create psychology-based programing, report templates, assessment measures, or databases. - Develop a treatment plan utilizing evidence-based interventions - Consult in other ways that use my expertise (described in detail below) I am a stickler for grammar, a lover of data, and a passionate believer in "the whole person"; everything lies on a spectrum and our strengths are equally as important as our weaknesses. I enjoy crafting diagnostic and technical reports that tell a digestible story of my patient's unique cognitive profile, weaving in valuable pieces of psychoeducation, pertinent statistics and research data, and notable personal strengths can provide an in-route for growth. I have 13 years of experience in proofreading/editing reports, writing psychology-related content for blogs/websites, and presenting at local/national conferences. I have also served as an doctoral-level dissertation advisor, aiding in conceptual formation of a topic, general consultation, and editing/proof-reading manuscripts. CLINICAL WORK: For half of the week, I run a successful part time practice focused on pediatric neuropsychology and school psychology. My practice focuses on neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning in the pediatric population (kids, teens, and young adults). Areas of expertise include: - ADHD - Anxiety disorders - Autism - Behavioral challenges - Executive functioning deficits - Giftedness - Language disorders - Learning disorders (e.g., Reading/Dyslexia, Writing/Dysgraphia, and Math/Dyscalculia) - Medical conditions affecting cognition (e.g., genetic conditions, long term cognitive effects of cancer treatment, etc.) - Mood disorders - OCD - Tic/Tourette's disorders While my approach to treatment is eclectic, I typical draw from cognitive modalities (e.g., CBT, REBT). I also have experience implementing ABA and evidence-based social skills intervention for children and parents. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND SUPERVISION: In addition to creating the organizational groundwork for other psychological practices, I have developed and headed a successful training program of doctoral and post-doctoral students that continues to thrive. I am well versed in developing training protocols, trainee assessment protocols, and training manuals. I have directly supervised dozens of rising psychologists in assessment, diagnostics, and report writing, as well as the various aspects of neuropsychology in general. WRITING, RESEARCH, AND PRESENTATIONS: I have written 100s of reports summarizing my patient assessments, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations. As such, I am an expert in creating digestible content for parents and teachers so that they can better understand a student's cognitive profile, strengths/weaknesses, and various psychological diagnoses and conditions. To me, communication is everything. I enjoy writing for parents and teachers; if they do not understand the results of my assessment, then the report is useless! I have also dabbled in writing my own children's "feedback stories." These short stories provide parents with a narrative to read to their child, using relatable fictional character to 1) explain the child's condition in age appropriate language, 2) describe the "superpowers" of their condition, and 3) provide the child with a positive narrative from which to conceptualize their unique brain. Of course, I can easily shift my language for the medical professionals, researchers, and fellow psychologists. I have published work multiple topics, and presented (orally and via poster presentation) at national and local conferences on topics like executive functioning, cognitive predictors of college readiness, dyslexia, genetic disorders, long term cognitive effects of cancer treatment, and TBI. I have also created and managed research databases. OTHER AREAS OF INTEREST - Creating content for psychology-focused blogs - Creating tools to support executive functioning in students - Educating parents on their rights and legal protocols of the IEP/IEE process - Educational consulting; specifically, guiding students throughout their high-school career (including the college application process) in order to meet higher education and vocational goals. - Student advocacy ...and one day, when my children are grown, I will write a book.Post College

I thrive in fast-paced job environments that force me to think on my feet just as much as I enjoy using every spare second of a slow day to learn new things and get some office work done. I've worked almost entirely unsupervised for the last two and a half years and have stayed motivated to get my daily tasks done. With my time spent writing, editing, and coming up with new and creative ideas, I would bring quite a lot of experience and ideas to your projects. I'm excited to be a small part of what will transform into a great final project!Post College

In 2014 I received my Bachelor's of Science in Public Relations and Political Science from Syracuse University. I loved writing, but I also realized that I loved science. After getting into several DPT schools, I decided to head to graduate school for my Doctorate. In 2019 I received my Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Miami. Since then I have worked in several PT settings and therefore have a lot of knowledge of the job description, work/life balance, and where the profession is headed for future clinicians. While working, I realized that I loved the medical aspect of healthcare. I applied and was accepted to several top nursing schools. Currently I am attending Duke University, obtaining my ABSN. The goal is to eventually become a Nurse Practitioner, hopefully for the military. None of this is to brag! I just would like it to be known that I will do everything I can with the skills that I have to help students create the best college application possible, as I did for myself. I have always joked that there should be a career where I can put my healthcare knowledge and my abilities to not only apply but also get accepted to wonderful schools, to good use. I love editing and proofreading essays, helping with resumes, advising on healthcare careers paths and conducting research in order to figure out which schools students should apply to based on their credentials and future aspirations. Having performed heavy research for myself with professions like nursing, PT, OT, PA and medical school (and also worked closely with all these professionals), it is so rewarding to be able to pay that skill and knowledge forward for future students and help them get accepted to the schools of their dreams. In addition, when it comes to healthcare professions, I am knowledgeable and savvy on finding several scholarships. I am happy to assist with finding these as well! My goal is to be the ultimate college application coach and I am here to help in any way I can!Post College
