This overview features two areas of expertise: outstanding skills in the use of the English language and the ability to interpret and respond to tender and contract requirements in many industries. EXPERIENCE: A broad spectrum of activities spans over 40 years of sales, marketing, project and tendering responsibilities in electrical distribution; water treatment; renewable energy; mining; manufacturing; telecommunications; federal, state and local government and rail industries. Years of successfully responding to client requests for tender assures an organisation its assignment will be completed to exactly meet its requirements in the time required. This experience covers hundreds of tenders and proposals prepared and submitted on time with an overall win rate of 30%. ENGLISH: The language of any documentation will be tailored to ensure the target audience, within the organisation or for the organisation’s clients, clearly understands what is being presented, even if they are not native English speakers. Years of tendering to national and international companies and a well developed curiosity has developed a high level of skills in communicating with commercial and technical specialists. Experience in tendering, negotiating and executing project contracts ensures any documentation clearly expresses an understanding of and compliance with legal and commercial terms. Areas of risk are identified and clearly articulated. The command of English evolved over several stages, starting with old-fashioned learning of the importance of spelling and grammar at high school. Being an avid reader and having access to a full set of Encyclopaedia Britannica inspired the curiosity to explore and learn. As an Examiner of Patents, which included six months of legal training, the ability to convey in words the legal and technical description of inventions to the level of withstanding a challenge of uniqueness in law was honed. Two years with IBM at their global Government Industry Marketing Centre in Brussels saw a major expansion of English skills. An early assignment was to “tidy up” a four page global marketing document, in English, which had been translated from a French version which had in turn been translated from the original German draft. This highlighted the differences in languages and cultures between Anglo-Saxon and Latin based words and grammar. The final solution was to take the intent of the translations and rewrite the English version. It also greatly expanded the vocabulary. Another activity at IBM was the production of a Marketing Requirements Statement for geographic referencing systems. The resultant document earned a $1,000 cash award for exceptional performance. RESEARCH AND REVIEW: Following is an example of capability in reviewing, research and reframing of tender requirements. The starting point was a tender response for 65 electrical units at an average unit price of $250,000. The technical experts and factory had prepared a standard proposal for this type of equipment. Researching the two main competitors’ websites showed there was almost no differentiation in the claims that were being made. Research was done to identify secondary cost factors that might be differentiators. As the units were to be located in remote tropical conditions, the unit footprint became important due to the per square metre cost of housing. Each unit was up to 10 metres long and 2 metres wide and the buildings were up to 50 metres long. Detailed discussions with the factory lead to reconfiguration of the units and a building cost reduction of over 10% on 23 buildings. Attention to the details of the buildings, even though they were not within the scope of the tender, lead to an alternative proposal to cool the units using forced air rather than air conditioning. Reconfiguration of the equipment layout resulted in further cost reductions and increased reliability over air conditioning in such a remote environment. As this was a competitive tender environment, both compliant documentation and alternative offer documentation were required. The resultant contract was the largest of its type in the company’s history. PERSONAL INTERESTS have lead to extensive consideration of alternative and traditional medicines, balanced by a clear understanding of the need for western medical procedures when indicated. Research has extended to two years training in mind and body psychotherapy, an understanding of acupuncture and energetic body flows. This interest naturally lead to extensive practice in fact checking. The impact of ageing on the body and mind has been a natural corollary. In these areas of studies, an advanced skill of pattern recognition complements assessment and validation of the factual integrity of various claims and marketing. Focus in applying for particular jobs will be on relevance, clarity and commitment.Proposal WritingResearch & StrategyProject ProposalDocument ReviewDoubleClick Bid ManagerResearch DocumentationContract ManagementBusiness Proposal WritingTender DocumentAustralian English Dialect - $80 hourly
