I want to test my product by creating a test website with social media tie-ins. The problem is that the people who like this idea may not necessarily pay for it. To solve this problem I want to indicate on my landing page that people can donate a fraction of the final product price ($1-3) in return for a discount in the future. This idea is different from the crowdfunding because I don't need to invest much money in setting up a full-blown crowdfunding page with a video, etc. Instead, I just provide product description and images, and if enough people invest $1-3 I will see that this product idea merits further attention and launch a crowdfunding campaign.
I need feedback on this traction testing technique.
