Proofreading is practically a hobby for me. Typos jump out at me as I read, and I catch myself re-writing sentences in my head. That sounds completely nerdy, but my weird tendencies can work to your advantage! Since I actually enjoy corralling those pesky commas, let me be an extra pair of eyes on your work. I’d love to help you produce quality, error-free content so your intended audience can read without distractions. I’d be happy to engage in back and forth conversation about your piece or to just go ahead and make the corrections, if you prefer. I can edit for organization and clarity, and for grammar and typos. I have an encouraging style of communicating and want to create a comfortable environment where your piece will flourish. Also, I was a first grade teacher until my children came along. While I’m not currently in the classroom, that knowledge and experience can benefit you. Let me collaborate with you on your curriculum from the varied perspectives of teacher, writer, and editor. I’ve written and published over 50 leveled books for beginning readers through educational publishing houses. I've edited and proofread several novels that have since been published (both traditional and indie publishing). I've also been the beta reader for lots of writers. I’ve worked for a non-profit as an editor for their blog and other publications. I’ve proofread countless college and graduate-level papers. Testimonial: “Working with Laurie was a real pleasure. She’s thorough and efficient, she caught all my spelling and grammatical mistakes, and her critiques are always well thought out. I had a very short deadline, but she worked quickly and helped me to the last minute. I would hire her to proofread and edit for me again in a heartbeat. Highly recommend.”Beta Reading

Hello! I’m an early-rising, coffee-drinking, book-loving, freelance editor who is passionate about Children’s Literature. I aim to encourage, inspire, and lend a helping hand along your journey as an author. My Experience... With over a decade of editing experience, I decided to utilize my degree in education and editing courses from the University of Michigan to focus on editing children’s books. Fast-forward two years, and I have authors so happy with my work that they’ve included me in the credits of their books. In addition to my experience and education, I know kid’s books. So well, in fact, I have quite a few favs I can read to my little guys without looking at the words (but don’t tell them). I’m well acquainted with classic authors like Bill Peet, Lois Lensky, and Maurice Sendak. I know authors who have been around for a while, like Laura Numeroff, Stan and Jan Berenstain, and Patricia Polacco. And I keep up with newer authors like Jez Alborough, James Dean, and Karma Wilson. I even have a vintage children’s book collection (something my husband fails to fully appreciate, lol). Let’s Work Together... I know what makes a good book, and, more importantly, I know how to make one just a little better. I can help you add that unique flair, catch that wee little thing the kids won’t like, or shine up a line that will bring an extra-big laugh. All you need to know about me before we work together is that I’m a Christian, and I try to ensure the projects I take on reflect my beliefs. I’m flexible, easy to work with, and honest. Never a need to be nervous or fearful about handing over your manuscript. I’d like us to be a team and make your book the best it can be. My goal is to be helpful by finding mistakes, offering suggestions, and providing constructive, encouraging feedback. Editing Service Details • 1st Edits: These edits are the most extensive and include tracked changes, suggestions, and separate detailed, written feedback. They focus on developmental editing and line editing. They are the most expensive. • 2nd Edits: These are available to my reocurring clients. They are usually smaller versions of the first edits and include feedback on new changes made, a heavier focus on line editing, and light proofreading. • Proofreads: I proofread during all of my edits, but this proofread is a fine-toothed comb approach to catch those pesky last-minute errors and typos. During this proofreading I work through the manuscript word-by-word three times. Then, I conduct an audio read, which is very helpful in catching tiny errors that one’s eyes often overlook. These final checks on the manuscripts are usually conducted after you have set your text with illustrations or right before printing. A Final Note Before You Go Let me end with the final, most important note: YOUR SATISFICATION. It is essential to me that you are 100% happy with my editing. If you are ever dissatisfied with your edits (even a bit), I’ll make it right—PROMISE!Beta Reading

I'm a professional publishing consultant, editor, and writing coach with years of experience in the publishing industry. To date, I've edited over one hundred manuscripts. When working with you, my mission is to be your go-to collaborator for your project by remaining highly focused on your needs and by providing high-quality deliverables tailored to your project's goals. We can begin working together at any stage of your publishing journey as my skills and services include writing coaching, beta reading, editorial assessments, developmental editing, copyediting, proofreading, and publishing consulting. Having worked at two university presses, I have experience with manuscripts of all types including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, short stories, business, and education. As a freelancer, I've also worked with fantasy, romance, crime fiction, and other commercial genres. I also have a BFA in Creative Writing and an MA in Management in the Creative Economy. As your editor, I'm dedicated to helping you develop high-quality content that meets all of your goals. I understand the effort that goes into your writing and your desire for your content to be the very best it can be. Therefore, my deliverables include not only the edited manuscript but also edit reports and collaborative revision hours that are all focused on elevating your manuscript. As your publishing consultant, I can guide you through the digital and print publishing process to deliver your content successfully, all while building your author or company brand. Together, we'll navigate your project through the independent, hybrid, or traditional publishing landscapes. I can develop a strong publishing strategy for your content and aid with project management for various steps of the process—from performing market research to executing sales strategies. As your writing coach, I can guide you through the writing process by providing exercises and techniques. I can identify the weaknesses and strengths of your writing and then provide solutions for how to eliminate those weak points and enhance your strengths. My goal is to be someone you can bounce your writing ideas off of and someone who supports and challenges you as a writer. If you're interested in working with me or have any questions, just send me a message telling me about your project and we'll go from there! Types of editing: Developmental Editing A developmental edit focuses on the big-picture elements of your content such as plot, character development, pacing, narrative, etc. For nonfiction books, it focuses on the structure of your content, what objectives need to be met by each section, delivery, etc. If your content is completed but hasn't undergone any revision yet, a developmental edit is where you want to start. When doing a developmental edit of your work, I provide you with a commented manuscript that highlights every suggested revision, edit report(s) with detailed explanations of issues and proposed solutions, and collaborative revision hours to discuss the edits. Line Editing Line editing is a high-level edit that focuses on the language, tone, pace, descriptions, voice, and writing style throughout the manuscript. A line edit includes a mix of direct edits and recommendations for additional content or cuts. When doing a line edit of your work, I provide you with an edited version (using MS Word track changes so you can review the edits) and a style sheet for the specific terminology used in your work (adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style). Copyediting A copyedit focuses on the readability of your content by correcting for grammar, inconsistencies, awkward phrasing, sentence structure, repetitions, etc. When doing a copyedit of your work, I provide you with an edited version (using MS Word track changes so you can review the edits) and a style sheet for the specific terminology used in your work (adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style). Proofreading Proofreading focuses on correcting typos, spelling, punctuation, and other small errors. This is the last phase of editing. When proofreading your content, I provide you with an edited version (using MS Word track changes so you can review the edits) and a style sheet for the specific terminology used in your work (adhering to the Chicago Manual of Style).Beta Reading

When it comes to editing, I generally think of authors as supplying the muscle and I, on the flip side, ensure the connective tissue is in place. A book is like a functioning body--everything has to work together to truly come alive! A solid editor is absolutely invaluable to the writing and publishing grind. They identify where a text needs revision and what parts are working harmoniously. Thinking an in-house publishing editor, or online editing tool, is enough to catch any mistakes in a book is a mistake in itself. Hiring an independent editor ensures that the quality of your book will be rock solid before it hits the physical or digital bookshelves of the world. My work over the years has comprised editing: -Novel-length books (fiction & non-fiction) -Essays, poems, novellas, and short stories -Training/ lesson plans for private and government organizations ...as well as doing beta reads for authors and the film industry. Guiding new or experienced writers to truly discover their voice and flesh out their stories is an absolute joy. Everybody has an interesting story to bring to the table--they sometimes just need help to polish and piece it together. My background in writing and editing, plus my experience as a frontline worker, means I bring a unique perspective to the table. Whether you are looking to clean-up stilted dialogue or ensure the accuracy of scientific details or just figure out where to begin, I've got you covered!Beta Reading

Hi, welcome to my profile! I'm Ryan. I work as an archival producer helping filmmakers, authors and YouTube content creators find, license (clearance) and use archival material in their projects. Communicating with and navigating through archives can be a daunting and time-consuming task. Never fear though! I have a Master's degree in Holocaust Studies, which brought me into contact with loads of archives. I have helped authors and filmmakers arrange trips to archives and find the material they need to make their projects successful. These visits included media records (moving and still images), textual records and oral history. On one such trip, a filmmaker found an oral history of his great grandfather that he didn't know about that will be included in his film. I have also filed public records requests on behalf of filmmakers. This includes police body camera footage along with interrogation video. Benefits of hiring an archival producer: Unique media and textual records for your film, The ability to defend your conclusions and beliefs with supporting material, Oppurtunites to show something new, and many more... The majority of archival material has not been digitized. If you want stock images, or other media that hasn't been used regularly or perhaps never been used in a film, you need to visit the archive. Archives are a treasure trove of great media records and audio recordings. If you want a finished project that has unique sources and is original, you need to visit the archive. Textual records encourage you to come to your own conclusions about history. While using already published books or interviews with experts are important, you don't want that to overshadow your own conclusions or beliefs. Archival sources can give you the evidence and confidence you need to defend your position rather than relying on secondary sources. You don't want your film to take someone's work and re-word it. You want your film to reflect you. Archival material gives you the legitimacy do just that. History has an incredibly large depth to it. There are endless possibilities to find material that has yet to be used in a book or another film. If you're investing money, your reputation and your passions on a film, I bet you want to use something new. Be bold and groundbreaking. Searching archives and filing public records requests can provide your film with something brand stinking new. That's the goal! Hiring an archival producer can provide your film with great benefits. If you want to hire me, contact me and we can arrange a free 15 minute consultation to discuss your project needs and my role. I'm currently based in Missoula, MT. I can provide my services remotely and travel to archives in Montana, Wyoming and the Pacific Northwest. If you are an author or researcher, not fluent in German, I can manage orders and inquires. I have contacts in Germany, which we could use to arrange visits to Berliner archives, if required. I have published an ebook "Camaradas: Ode to the Spanish Civil War". It is a translation from German book written by Erich Weinert. I completed the project on my own. I found the copyright holder and gained permission to complete the project. Looking forward to working with you! Ryan Edgar, archival producer, production assistant and archival researcherBeta Reading

I'm a Jill of all trades in the literary world, with years of experience both writing and editing at the literary agency where I work. I'd love to talk with you about editing your novel. Read the testimonials below and peruse the selected published works in my portfolio. Clients have found me to be a good communicator and responsible with deadlines. Others have said I have a sharp eye, and a kind yet blunt critique style. I assure you, I want your project to be the best it can be, and I'll instinctively know the work that needs to be done to get it there. I'm ready to embrace your project as my own, so let's get to work! ***Kindly read this clarification before sending an invite: I don't edit works created either partially or in full by AI, and I do not participate in ghostwriting circles. Also, I don't write query letters, rather, I critique and improve letters that are already written by a book's author. Thanks so much!*** I Prefer: - Fixed price to hourly - Clear expectations - Kindness, always. No matter what needs to be said. - Working on either first 3 chapters (up to 8,000 words), first half (up to 40,000 words), or whole manuscripts (up to 90,000 words). You will get: - Structural/Developmental edits; these are big picture edits. (Random examples: This could be better in a different spot, maybe paragraph 4 of chapter 5 where you introduce this topic. Have you thought about making Mary older to fit her independent lifestyle? Why is Stephan so worried about the cleanliness of the apartment, if in chapter one you said he hired a cleaning lady? I'm wondering if chapter seven can be tightened and merged with six, because it's lagging and I worry readers will lose interest) - Line edits; these occur when a certain line/word is throwing off the story. (Random examples: This sentence is clunky because the subject of the sentence comes after all those other objects and adjectives. Your use of the word Coptic may not be correct since technically these worshipers would be Russian orthodox. Double-check the accuracy of your claim that black widow spiders can kill. Consider editing out the word "felt" from this whole chapter because it weakens the text.) - Grammar/Punct correction; This is like proofreading, but it's best to perform a separate final proofread once you're completely done with all edits. (Examples: spelling of words, word usage, grammar correction, punctuation correction) Can't wait to talk to you about your needs!Beta Reading
