Who am I at a glance?
I'm a PE Parter, who works with companies on a daily basis to strategize, plan, and execute their strategic growth initiatives. I am also a former CEO, COO, and VC Partner, and have close to three decades of venture formation, business transformation, and strategic growth leadership (BD, Sales, Partnerships) experience. I come with blue-chip management consulting foundations and am as close to a guru as you can get in market opportunity research, strategy formation, and planning. I've "been in the room" raising capital, launching ventures, and transforming businesses for three decades. I have a deep and nuanced understanding of how to build and grow businesses.
Where can I add value?
Results matter most. We all get this. But where do results come from? Over the last three decades - as a CEO, COO, Private Equity partner, a Strategy Consultant, a Market Researcher, and globe-traveling Chief Executive (5.3 million lifetime air miles so far!), I can offer this simple answer: Results come from performance, and performance comes from having a solid plan, smartly organizing one's resources, and managing well. Everything else is noise.
This is what I do:
* Bring Clarity and Focus - through situation assessments, market research, and competitive intel.
* Secure the Right Resources - human, technical, systems, and investment capital raising.
* Offer Hands-on Support and Turn-key Outsource Solutions for Planning, Organizing, and Managing.
How am I different and an excellent option for you to consider?
* A blue-chip management consulting and professional market research background (+10 years worth) means I have ready-to-deploy analytical frameworks, processes, and adaptable solution sets, along with lightening-fast analytics (mental horsepower) that surprises most people. (High-grade management consultants bring strategy, diagnostic frameworks, rapid problem-solving, and rollout expertise that many people value.)
* Deep and nuanced perspectives that took decades to form. I haven't seen everything - but I've seen a lot - on-the-ground in 59 countries, work spanning 38 industries, hands-on at every maturity and technology level - from emerging deep-tech to tried-and-true brick & mortar - helping businesses and operations in the funded start-up, lower to mid market, private corporate, and the ultra-large +$1B ventures. Where consultants and advisors say "we need a 30-day discovery and diagnosis stage", I say "I've seen this before, here's what we can do about it" (Experienced experts with extensive domain knowledge can often solve complex problems faster and more accurately via pattern recognition and heuristics.)
What kind of Performance and Results?
+775 market research studies (in support of investment, rollout, and operating decisions)
+58 private placements as the transaction manager (~$5.6b)
+56 pitch-decks (with 97% success rate of getting to the next stage)
+44 capital raising strategy and documentation preparations (thesis, decks, sources, term sheets)
+41 carveouts/stand-up initiatives
+31 business transformations (where the real value creation happens)
All of these efforts have led to:
+35% to 400% increases in revenue
+15% to 125% improvements in Profitability/EBITDA
+18% to 85% productivity gains (thanks to smart AI applications)
+1.6x to 10x investor returns
+a lot - and I mean a real lot - of happy founders, executive teams, employees, and investors
All told, I have contributed to the arrangement and deployment of $104.3 billion in capital.
What I'm like on the job:
* I'm a Catalyst, Producer, Driver, and Guardian (I'm also Canadian-American, love pizza, am ridiculously educated, a well-trained diplomat, and make work fun). I am the person who bridges from vision to reality and turns strategy into action.
* I'm very hands-on, collaborative, and coach-like, with a knack for breaking apart the toughest problems, overcoming every form of hurdle (including people hurdles), generating forward momentum, and leading with an overwhelming positive force.
Who do I work with?
I work with leaders, founders, investors, and teams to understand and define their opportunities, create strategies and game plans to capture those opportunities, accelerate their work, execute transactions, transform operations, and generate breakout performance results. (I've also spent time with four Prime Ministers, a couple of Kings, a U.S. President, and the Pope).
I work globally and often in complicated and thorny settings - in the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia - that others prefer to shy away from. I thrive in complexity, ambiguity, and high-pressure settings.
If you seek a genuine catalyst, seasoned advisor, guick-acting trouble-shooter, a no-nonsense producer and driver of results, or simply a calm, steady hand, who can enhance your effectiveness and help your organization achieve excellence, let’s connect to explore how we might work together.

Are you raising capital? Thinking about funding your next round of growth? Need to communicate your value clearly to your board or investors? My goal is to help you close your round faster, at better terms, with materials that move investors from "interested" to "yes."
My name is Bakley, and as a CFA Charterholder and fractional CFO I help founders and operators raise capital, forecast their financials, and run sharper investor relations — combining traditional capital markets expertise with AI-powered workflows that make the whole process faster, more thorough, and more responsive than working with a traditional advisor. Here are a few things I've done for past clients:
1) Raised over $300M in client capital
2) Awarded best-in-class for financial modeling
3) Drove 50% revenue growth and 1,000 bp margin improvement at a TestingMom

Find your startup’s voice.
Turn strategy into documents stakeholders trust.
What I bring that most freelancers can't:
- I've been the banker. I was a C-suite banker and led one of the top SBA lending operations in my state, which means I know exactly what lenders look for in a business plan.
- I've also been the founder, 3x times, and led due diligence for one of the largest angel syndicates in the US. So, I know what investors are looking for in your documents.
- I currently led the GTM strategies for a $12B company, so I know how to build go-to-market playbooks and content that can help you scale.
What I deliver:
Documentation
- Lender-ready business plans built around how banks actually underwrite
- Investor pitch decks that lead with what capital allocators care about
- SBA loan packaging and deal structuring for 7(a) and 504 programs
- Financial projections that hold up under scrutiny
- Executive summaries and investor memorandums for equity raises
- Go-to-Market audits and actionable playbooks
- Social media and newsletter content that can establish executives as thought leaders
Capital Advisory
- SBA 7(a) and 504 deal origination and placement
- Commercial loan brokering and lender matching
- Equity raise strategy and investor positioning for growth-stage founders
- I have a network of over 200+ investors and lenders
GTM Advisory
- Market sizing and segmentation (TAM/SAM/SOM analysis)
- Ideal customer profile (ICP) definition and buyer persona development
- Competitive landscape mapping and differentiation strategy
- Product-market fit validation and messaging frameworks
- Pricing and packaging strategy
Who I work with:
- Small business owners who need debt capital.
- Founders preparing for a debt or equity capital raise.
- Growth-stage businesses that need someone who has done this before, not someone figuring it out alongside them.
Why clients come back:
I work fast, I think at the executive level, and I don't pad engagements. You get the thinking you need, documentation that performs, and where relevant, the capital relationship that closes the deal.
If you are looking to grow, need a funded business, and not just a finished document — let's talk.

Most companies entering Asia don't fail because of the product. They fail because they didn't understand who makes the real decisions — and how.
I've spent 34 years on both sides of that table. As IBM Korea's account manager for Samsung Group ($50M), I learned how the world's most demanding buyers think. Then I spent three decades as a supplier — selling into those same systems across 60+ countries in China, Korea, and North America.
I don't just advise on Asia strategy. I've executed it — as CEO, CFO, and Managing Director — in manufacturing, technology, and capital markets.
I work in English, Korean, and Mandarin Chinese. Not "conversational." Boardroom-level.
What I do for you
GTM STRATEGY — Market entry architecture for China, Korea, or North America. Competitive positioning, channel design, partnership identification, and go/no-go analysis grounded in on-the-ground reality.
PARTNER & DISTRIBUTOR SELECTION — I identify and vet local partners in Chinese and Korean directly. No language barrier, no filtered information. You get the real picture.
MARKET INTELLIGENCE REPORTS — Sector deep-dives drawing from Chinese and Korean primary sources that English-only consultants can't access. Useful for boards, investors, and strategy teams.
NEGOTIATION ADVISORY — Strategy and preparation for high-stakes negotiations with Korean chaebols, Chinese SOEs, or North American corporates. I've sat in those rooms.
EXECUTIVE ADVISORY — Ongoing strategic counsel for leadership teams navigating Asia expansion, trade route optimization, or cross-border M&A.
Why trilingual matters at the strategy level
Mandarin and Korean aren't just communication tools — they're intelligence channels. Regulatory filings, supplier databases, industry association reports, internal corporate language: none of it reaches English-speaking advisors. I read the original source.
How I work
Fixed-price engagements for defined deliverables. No hourly guesswork, no billable-hour inflation. I take a limited number of active clients at any time. Response within 12 hours.

I’ve reviewed 1000s of startup decks, 10+ years of experience in VC in USA in various roles: VC Partner, Head of Investor Relations, 2x founder.
I think like an investor, structure like a consultant, write like a strategist, design like a pro.
I work with VC, PE funds, startups and businesses of all stages on:
🔴 Sharpening and writing investor narratives that cut through the noise
- pitch decks, memos, onepagers and investor materials
🔴 Design that is not decoration. It is hierarchy and intent, and a spark of magic ✨
- Branding, materials design, visual language
My CORE PRINCIPLES in investor materials:
- Sharp positioning, avoid generics. “Backing exceptional founders who drive innovation” 🤢 must go
- Assume people don’t read, they scan. Cut text, use tight bullets, numbers, logos and highlights
- Lead with traction, team track record, tangible insights. That is what actually sells
My PROCESS:
- Materials revision, discovery call with founders
- Writing or refining content, iteration-review loops
- Polish with professional design after content is set
OR
- Pitch deck review consultation with honest, practical feedback. Book in my profile
🔴 I maintain relationships with VCs, debt lenders, and family offices and selectively refer aligned deal flow. I am a registered broker-dealer in the USA.
I can also lead your fundraising / investor relations if we align.
About me:
- founder at prophet.partners, investor relations studio
- Ex-VC partner at Starta VC & accelerator in NYC ($50M AUM across fund I, fund II, 150+ portfolio companies)
- Harvard University: Management in Innovation & Technology executive program
- VC Lab: fundraising program for emerging VC fund managers
Expertise in: VC, funds, B2C, B2B, SaaS, Consumer, DTC, hardware, apps, deeptech AI, PE deals, venture credit, real estate and more

How to Hire Top Venture Capital Consultants
How to hire venture capital consultants
Venture capital consultants have the industry contacts and fundraising expertise needed to advise you on your own venture capital projects.
So how do you hire venture capital consultants? What follows are some tips for finding top venture capital consultants on Upwork.
How to shortlist venture capital professionals
As you’re browsing available venture capital consultants, it can be helpful to develop a shortlist of the professionals you may want to interview. You can screen profiles on criteria such as:
Industry fit. You want a venture capital consultant who understands the nuances of fundraising in your industry and can connect you with potential investors.
Project experience. Screen candidate profiles for specific skills and experience (e.g., experience preparing pitch decks for seed funding blockchain projects).
Feedback. Check reviews from past clients for glowing testimonials or red flags that can tell you what it’s like to work with a particular venture capital consultant.
How to write an effective venture capital job post
With a clear picture of your ideal venture capital consultant in mind, it’s time to write that job post. Although you don’t need a full job description as you would when hiring an employee, aim to provide enough detail for a freelancer to know if they’re the right fit for the project.
An effective venture capital job post should include:
Scope of work: From writing business plans to pitching investors, list all the deliverables you’ll need.
Project length: Your job post should indicate whether this is a smaller or larger project.
Background: If you prefer experience with certain industries or investment strategies, mention this here.
Budget: Set a budget and note your preference for hourly rates vs. fixed-price contracts.

Why hire venture capital consultants?
The trick to finding top venture capital consultants is to identify your needs. Are you seeking someone with experience securing funding for fintech start-ups? Or is the goal to advise you on raising capital for a new medical device? The cost of your project will depend largely on your scope of work and the specific skills needed to bring your project to life.

How much does it cost to hire a venture capital consultant?
Rates can vary due to many factors, including expertise and experience, location, and market conditions.
An experienced venture capital consultant may command higher fees but also work faster, have more specialized areas of expertise, and deliver a higher-quality product.
A freelancer who is still in the process of building a client base may price their venture capital services more competitively.
