The number one tip I would recommend to make your resume stand out is to keep it simple: no photos, odd designs, etc. Although this may seem counterintuitive, this is what your competition is doing to stand out and it is not working. During one of my projects at Google my sole focus was to screen 500+ applications per week and the simple resumes stood out to me the most. Traditional resumes are easier on the eyes and less mentally taxing! Even though my expertise is in IT Recruiting, my passion is for writing.
