Hello! I'm Florian. I am a freelance technical translator and, more generally, a language service provider. I mostly work on environment topics, with a focus on water. My niche - water and environment - includes fields such as: - waste and water management - nature conservation and related tourism, e. g. in national parks - flood mitigation - hydro-engineering - ecology, biodiversity and - related economic considerations (e. g. rural development). Beyond the essentials of translation, I can also add value by: - proofreading (grammar and spelling) - editing (for clarity, fluency and style) - pre- and post-editing for machine translations - researching and managing terminology (and other language resources, such as translation memories) - project management in small teams - technical writing and - transcribing recordings. As such, I have worked closely with local civil engineering companies as well as their partner regional and federal governments. I have contributed to and translated reports to the LIFE coordinators - on which EU funding depends - and for the general public. I was also involved in on-site signage and information displays. To ensure efficiency, language consistency and overall quality, I employ software to process texts, data resources and associated graphics in all major file formats. In this, I rely mostly on the memoQ translation environment (compatible with the other major suite, Trados Studio), and can offer machine translation where the situation calls for it. In my approach, the original text is nonetheless not the be-all and end-all it is often made out to be. Texts are meant to achieve goals, meaning that I place more weight on your wants - and your audience's needs - than on basic reproduction. That, in today's world, we can mostly leave to the machines.
