I have over 10 years of experience as an amateur meteorologist. I employ and combine hi-resolution computer weather modeling systems, surface/marine observations with satellite imagery, National Weather Service discussions, and various other methodologies to come up with general weather forecasts for all locations throughout the globe. I specialize in tropical weather prediction, but have sufficient experience forecasting all types of weather ranging from severe to winter to fire and more.
My projects and skills are distinguished from other amateur meteorologists because I have my own archive of datasets that I use to compare my forecast skill against the actual event, my own criteria for when to issue specific types of forecasts, and I'm constantly reading the latest academic papers to stay sharp and up-to-date on new developments in the field. You cannot call yourself a forecaster if you don't create a text and especially some sort of graphical forecast verification product to compare to the actual event you're forecasting, and this is a fact that I think many aspiring, talented amateur meteorologists are oblivious to.
