Freelancer Scam - Deceptive Milestone Payment Scheme
"I am writing to share my experience with a freelancer who employed a deceptive scheme, resulting in financial loss and significant wasted time. I believe this information is crucial for others to avoid similar pitfalls.
The Scam Operation:
* Initial Appeal: The freelancer presented themselves as a budget-friendly option with seemingly positive ratings.
* Milestone Structure: They requested payment for three milestones. Crucially, the first milestone was designed to be a simple task, such as drafting a contract. This is a key element of their scam.
* Post-Payment Avoidance: Upon payment of the initial milestone, the freelancer became largely unresponsive. They would sporadically reappear, offering excuses and delaying progress, effectively stalling the project.
* Prolonged Delays and Fabricated Excuses: In my case, the freelancer cited various reasons for the delays, including alleged hospitalization and technical errors. This pattern of excuses was a clear attempt to exhaust my patience.
* Unilateral Contract Termination: After a three-month period of deliberate delays, the freelancer unilaterally terminated the contract.
* Suspicious Reviews: Upon closer inspection, I discovered that some reviews contained suspiciously detailed technical jargon, potentially designed to discredit reviewers and create a false impression of expertise.
Key Observations and Recommendations:
* Avoid Milestone Payments for Simple Tasks: Be extremely cautious of freelancers who request milestone payments for tasks like contract drafting or other easy tasks.
I lost time , i lost money and all i have got in hand is a contract which is worthless and he takes away the money and ofcourse a counter reply for this review making him look the victim..
