I’m Sourav Bhattacharjee, and I bring a wealth of experience as a virtual assistant with a proven track record of building businesses from the ground up. Over the years, I’ve successfully developed 4 businesses in New York and 3 in New Jersey, showcasing my ability to drive growth and manage operations. Previously, I worked for a UK-based BPO & KPO agency with workstations across Europe and Asia. Now, I operate independently, leveraging my expertise to support clients as a dedicated freelancer.
Let me share a story—a true account of how I honed my skills. My most valuable experience came from working with a group of small MBE businesses in NYC. Initially, the owner engaged me for small projects, but recognizing my impact, he later offered me a role as Chief of Operations. When I joined, the group had 2 businesses. By the time I finished, we had grown to 7 businesses across NY and NJ. This journey included securing certifications like PANYNJ, SBE, SBS MBE, LHCSA, NHTD, and NYS M/WBE, all made possible by our collaborative efforts.
We started with two businesses, reinvesting revenue to launch startups focused on cleaning, staffing, and medical billing. Here’s how we made it happen:
1. Infrastructure Setup: I implemented essential tools like Slack, Asana, G Suite, Grasshopper, and shared drives to streamline operations.
2. Building the Team: We sourced tech-savvy VAs from local communities in Jamaica, Bangladesh, and the Philippines, avoiding platforms like UpWork and Fiverr to find long-term collaborators.
3. Client Acquisition: I tested Facebook Ads with a $100 credit, leading to our first cleaning client in Manhattan. Additionally, platforms like Thumbtack and Craftjack helped us secure leads.
I meticulously documented workflows, from generating quotes via Jobber to onboarding employees in payroll systems. Every process was standardized and recorded for seamless operations.
Government Contracts: Recognizing the potential of government contracts, I created accounts on platforms like SAM.gov, NYSCR, and Bidnetdirect. We also engaged organizations like PTAC, SBS, and Workforce1 for guidance. Networking with their representatives helped us understand RFQs, RFPs, and other procurement processes. Through persistence, we secured opportunities like a staffing proposal for the Department of Social Services.
To handle the growing workload, I expanded the team by hiring additional support from Bangladesh. I trained them to complete tasks efficiently by creating detailed workflows and video tutorials.
Finally, I identified Chief Diversity Officers (CDOs) in various agencies and reached out with capability statements and proposals. This proactive approach opened doors to collaborations, including a significant staffing opportunity with the Department of Social Services.
Managing multiple businesses, nurturing client relationships, and ensuring operational excellence is no small feat, but my commitment to building efficient systems and teams makes it achievable.
