If a cell is genuinely illegible — smudged, cut off, handwriting I can't read with confidence — I flag that specific cell rather than guessing at it. A flagged cell you can check in thirty seconds is far better than a confident-looking wrong number you never find.

Most of the time the gap comes down to five things, and I test for all of them:
- Processor fees netted out of a deposit before it hits the bank
- Refunds or chargebacks landing in a different period than the original sale
- A deposit that straddles your month-end cutoff and gets counted on the wrong side
- Duplicate charges or duplicate deposit entries
- Cash or checks recorded on the sale date but banked days later
What you send me: your sales export (Shopify, Square, Stripe, PayPal, Toast, a POS report, or a spreadsheet you keep yourself) and your bank or processor statements as CSV or Excel.
What you get back: a reconciled workbook with both sides rebuilt on a common date basis, an exception table naming every unmatched item and its cause, and a one-page variance walk that starts at your sales total and ends at your bank total with no unexplained remainder.
I spent my career in banking, where matching transactions line by line and being able to explain a difference to someone who is not in finance was the job. I apply the same process to small business sales and deposit data.
