Illinois Attorney for Small Claims Case
We hired Naphtalia to prepare and send a demand letter to a customer with an outstanding unpaid balance. After reviewing the draft, we felt the tone was too cordial and did not convey the level of urgency we expected from a demand letter. We asked that the letter be revised to take a firmer, more assertive approach, as our goal was to encourage payment without having to pursue litigation.
Naphtalia declined to make the revisions we requested and instead terminated the engagement. We were disappointed not only by the refusal to incorporate our feedback, but also by the abrupt end to the representation before we had an opportunity to respond or discuss the matter further.
The experience left me feeling that my interests and those of my company were not being prioritized. Because our request for a firmer demand letter was rejected and the engagement ended at that point, I was left wondering whether there was a financial incentive to move directly toward filing a small claims action rather than maximizing the likelihood of resolving the dispute through the demand letter.
