TShiert Design: My Dog Hates AI
BEWARE BEFORE HIRING:
Overall, I have had a great experience working with freelancers on Upwork. Rana is the one exception. I hired him for a simple design (similar designs from other creators on this site I paid as little as $30 - $50). Rana insisted on an hourly contract rather than a fixed price, which was new to me.
The terms were $20/hr for 5 hours per week - I assumed it would take less than 5 hours to finish the product. Rana spent 10 hours that he "tracked" working on my design but split it between the end of one week and the start of the next week to increase billable hours. So total of $200 cost - whatever, kinda scammy and not worth it at all, but nothing to be too upset about.
Quality was fine, nothing special. I thanked him and assumed we were done. Then, ALMOST TWO WEEKS later, Rana again decided to bill me for another 5 hours. My card was charged another $100 - luckily I caught this and confronted Rana. He claimed he was billing additional hours that he worked previously - but then why wait 2 weeks and why not mention that when delivering the final outputs to me?
Luckily I was able to win a dispute through Upwork and get my $100 back, but still ended up paying Rana ~ $200 - roughly double what I expected to pay in the first place.
I truly believe that Rana tried to scam me, hoping I wouldn't see the new charge. Who knows how many more times he would have done this (billed 5x hours without doing anything) if I had not seen the charge. My advice: find a different contractor (there are some great ones on here) and always end your contracts so you can't be billed after the fact.
