Figma Expert Needed for Fitness App
I recently collaborated with Konstantin on an app design project on Upwork, and I feel it's essential to share my experience with others who might be considering working with him. The theme of our work was to "over-promise and under-deliver," which unfortunately became the defining characteristic of this partnership.
At the outset of the project, we outlined a clear plan and agreed that Konstantin would complete a series of work stages for a set budget of $2000 over a 3-4 week timeline. The initial plan included steps such as project briefing, competitive analysis, wireframes, and an interactive prototype, among others.
The work stages will be as follows:
1. Project briefing and familiarization
2. Competitive analysis
3. Structure app
4. User flow
5. Prototype (wireframe)
6. Design system
7. Design
8. Interactive prototype
9. Project review (after development)
However, as the project progressed, Konstantin introduced new capabilities to the app design (Home Screen) without clearly communicating the implications on the timeline and budget. It was only after I raised concerns about these changes that he mentioned the project's extension and blamed it on me, even though the core process remained the same, with the addition of the new screen and flow he wanted.
The end result of the project was far from satisfactory. The wireframe included elements I explicitly requested not to include, and only about half of the promised work was completed with the same allotted budget. Communication issues were apparent throughout the project, and Konstantin often struggled to ensure satisfaction of the work before moving forward causing delays and increased costs.
Another significant challenge I encountered was that Konstantin appeared more focused on implementing his own ideas for the app's functionality rather than aligning with my vision. This divergence of vision slowed the project down, increased expenses, and ultimately led to a less-than-desirable outcome.
Lastly, he changed our project from a milestone structure to a weekly payment structure which we also did not agree to. This deviation resulted in me paying for milestones that weren't completed.
In summary, while Konstantin possesses design talent, he faces significant communication challenges that need to be addressed before embarking on projects like these. My experience with this collaboration left me with no choice but to remove a milestone from the project due to the numerous issues with the wireframe and such a large extension of the project budget. I believe that for successful future collaborations, Konstantin needs to prioritize effective communication and align his work more closely with the client's vision.
