Project details

A simple and easy way to get a professional website for you business.
What I provide is a simple website that is responsive (adjusts for different screen sizes), functional, and uses current 'best practices' for web development.
I will do some limited SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and accessibility implements so your site can be found and viewed by more people and search engines.
You will see the progress and approve it every step of the way. At the end, you will be given a link to download a zip file containing your custom web files. If you need help installing them on your server or hosting service, let me know and I can provide some limited assistance).
After your site is up, you will have three months where you can make up to two (or more depending on package) small changes to make sure the site looks how you want it to.
All of the functional components are guaranteed to work for at leasst 12 months. I will follow-up with you and your site to insure everything is working.
Your project is unique and considered proprietory. I will not use your site or any of it's proprietory elements outside of this project without permission.

Hello and thanks for taking a look at my profile.

Looking for a web designer or user experience engineer?
I have been coding for decades. Let me walk you through a (very) basic outline of my process.
1. Determine the objective of the project. What is the ultimate goal?
2. Identify the target user. Imagine I am that user - what will make this both work well for the user and what will make the user enjoy using my product?
3. Discuss the ideas with the customer and/or some target users. Provide a mock-up for them to explore and listen to feedback.
4. Create the product. This could take on many steps and could potentially be a lot of back and forth between myself, customer, and end-users.
5. Testing. This is a two part process for me. I need to know that the code works, and I need to know that users like using it and that the look/feel of the product meets the customer's desires.
6. Error Handling. I encode error handling as I work, however it is important for me to try to anticipate unforeseen issues and add functionality to handle it.
- If a user uses an unknown or new browser that doesn't support some part of my project; my application should have a way to manage it.
- If some elements are deprecated a year after implementation, will it break the project?

My basic philosophies:
- Understand the customer and what they want. Understand the end users, what they like and any limitations they may have.
- Make a product that is secure and will last. If possible, follow-up every few months to insure everything is operating as expected.

How much do you need to participate? You don't need to do any more than explain what you want. If you are unsure about that, I can help narrow it down. I can design and implement your site. I can setup your web-hosting and post the files for you. You have a business or job to tend to - let me take this task off your plate.

On the other side of this, if you want to be highly involved or just want me to handle a small part of a larger project; not a problem. I am a very strong team-player.

How long will it take?
This is impossible to give a blanket answer to. Obviously there are many different sizes of projects and my workload may fluctuate. If you have a deadline or target time-frame, let me know up front. I will tell you if I can meet the deadline and what likely events may interfere with that.

What will you get?
Again, this may vary per project, however typically I provide a mock-up within the first week so you can quickly decide if my style and vision for your project are a match and that I have a good grasp of what you are looking for. Generally the visual part of the project is worked out within the first week or two and (thanks to careful planning!) it normally only takes one or two mock-ups.
I will host the project on my public server. You will have access to the test site and can check my work any time you wish.
At the end of the project, I will provide you a copy of the site - both source code and compiled project files will be available from my GitHub repository (private, of course). If you want me to install the files to your web-hosting or even completely setup your web-hosting, I will.
I usually include two minor changes with each project. This can be negotiated, of course. That means, that if you decide you don't like the color or font of something a month after it's installed, I will change it at no additional expense. Minor edits as determined by me.

Security and Privacy
First, with every project, I operate as if I am under an NDA. I do not disclose anything about your business or the project to anyone else. If something comes up requiring me to contract a part of a project, your permission would be requested ahead of time.
The temporary hosting I use while developing, has very little access. Any database connections required will be stored in secure back-end environment variables.
Any user accounts will use hashed passwords. Database IDs are done using UUIDs.

Maintenance
Your site may require maintenance or updating over time. If you need to change things regularly (news feeds, blogs, prices, etc), I can create an admin (CMS) page for you to easily edit content. I can also offer ongoing services though a retainer, monthly service fee, or a per-instance charge.
If your site stops working due to unforeseen bugs, I will fix it for free. If it stops working due to unforeseen (or seen) technology changes, I will have to quote the repair based on how much time is estimated.

Rates.
I prefer not to work hourly; however I do log all my hours and will supply any customer my log for their project upon request.
I put together an estimate and let you know up front how much it will cost. It usually does not change; however major changes will cause some re-quoting. I like to use a couple of milestones.

Thanks again for taking the time to read this and best of luck!

Steps for completing your project

After purchasing the project, send requirements so Lance can start the project.

Delivery time starts when Lance receives requirements from you.

Lance works on your project following the steps below.

Revisions may occur after the delivery date.

Initial Assessment

This is a back and forth conversation to determine what you want. This is your site - you will provide all graphics and content. My job is to put it all together and make it work.

Wireframe and Mock-up

I will draw up and provide you with wireframe and a mock-up (graphics and colors, but no functionality) for your approval before proceding to the actual coding.

Review the work, release payment, and leave feedback to Lance.
