Wireframes, User-personas, Customer Journey Mapping, Design Sprints, UI-storytelling, High-Fidelity mockups or animated prototypes.
The tools I use are Sketch, Framer, Figma but I do believe in taking a traditional approach at times too and just stick to a paper and a pencil to design wireframes for prototyping. I am testing all low fidelity mockups on real users before to take it to developers and it helps to make the right decisions.
