Quick question: when's the last time a website or app made you stop and think, "wait, this is actually easy to use"?
Most people can't remember. Usually it's not a color or font problem. It's a thinking problem. A dashboard confuses people when nobody stopped to ask "what is this person trying to do right now?" A restaurant loses online orders when the ordering flow makes people give up halfway through. A SaaS product churns users when "powerful" quietly turns into "overwhelming."
That second one is real. Claudette's Cafe & Deli is a 20-year neighborhood breakfast spot in Westlake, Ohio. I redesigned their site's UX around one goal: get a hungry regular from "craving the Farmers Omelette" to a completed order in as few decisions as possible. Clear menu hierarchy. A frictionless ordering flow. Trust signals (awards, reviews) placed exactly where doubt creeps in.
Not every project starts with a client brief. Mantis Organics was a personal exploration project: no client, no deadline, just me pushing clean, organic-feeling UI as far as it could go. It's the kind of work that keeps my eye sharp between client engagements.
