Project details

A web application built for the job you need it to do, not bent out of something generic. Client portals, booking and scheduling systems, quoting tools, stock and order management, reporting dashboards on live data. Built with Next.js, React, Node and PostgreSQL. Before any code is written you get a short plain-English plan showing the pages, the features and how it will behave, signed off by you, with one fixed price. The work is tested with real scenarios, works properly on mobile, and is secured sensibly. At the end you get the source code and documentation, which are yours to keep. If a simpler tool would solve your problem for less money, I will tell you that before you spend anything.

Software Engineer - Integrations, Custom Apps and Business Automation
Belvedere, United Kingdom - 7:18 pm local time
Software engineer with many years of experience building, integrating and automating business systems.

I work with companies that have outgrown their current setup. Systems that will not talk to each other. Processes held together by spreadsheets and manual re-keying. Software that needs building properly rather than patching again.

Four things make up most of my work.

INTEGRATIONS

Connecting systems that were never designed to work together. CRMs, ERPs, e-commerce platforms, accounting and payment providers, warehouse and logistics software. REST and GraphQL APIs, webhooks, middleware, and the older systems where there is no proper API and you have to work around it. That means field mapping agreed up front, sensible error handling, retries, and alerting so a failed sync gets noticed instead of quietly losing data.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT

Backend services, APIs, databases and the architecture underneath them. Node.js, Python, TypeScript. Designing schemas that will still make sense in three years, and replacing the ones that did not.

APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT

Web applications and internal tools built for a specific job rather than bent out of something generic. Client portals, booking and scheduling systems, quoting tools, stock and order management, reporting dashboards. Next.js, React, Node, PostgreSQL, Cloudflare Workers.

AUTOMATION

Taking repetitive manual work out of a business. Order processing, invoicing, data entry, reporting, document handling, onboarding and approval workflows. Built in n8n, Make or Zapier where those are the right tool, and in code where they are not.

Where AI genuinely earns its place I use it: document and invoice processing, pulling structured data out of unstructured files, assistants that answer from a company's own information. It is one tool among several, not the whole offer.

HOW I WORK

Fixed prices agreed in writing before anything starts. A short plan in plain English showing what will be built and how it will behave, signed off before any code is written. Testing against real data, including the messy records, before anything goes near live. Documentation you could hand to somebody else.

Recent work has included connecting an ordering system to accounting and stock so orders stopped being entered twice, building an application that reads timesheets and produces invoices from them automatically, and replacing a paper-based ordering process with a single web system.

If you have a process costing more time than it should, or software that needs building properly, send me the details and I will tell you what it would take.
