Developer Needed for PHP Web App with Hugging Face Integration (German Election Analysis)
Hiring this freelancer has been one of the most disappointing experiences I have had on Upwork. The project was initially presented with extremely clear and detailed briefings, including step-by-step instructions, reference materials, and specific examples of what was expected. Despite this, the freelancer not only failed to follow the instructions but seemed to have completely ignored the briefings altogether.
From the very beginning, there were signs of trouble. Tasks that should have been straightforward were delayed without any valid reason. When deliverables finally arrived, it was evident that the freelancer either hadn’t read the briefings or hadn’t understood them—despite claiming otherwise. Instead of addressing the core requirements, they often submitted incomplete, off-track, or poorly executed work that didn’t align with the project’s goals.
I tried to address these issues early by offering further clarification, breaking down the tasks into even smaller steps, and being as supportive as possible. However, nothing seemed to change. The freelancer would promise to deliver “perfect” results in the next round but then came back with the same mistakes—or entirely new ones. This cycle repeated multiple times, and each time it cost more hours and more delays.
What made matters worse was their tendency to play for time. Whenever feedback was given, instead of taking immediate and decisive action to fix the issues, they would make vague promises about needing more time to “analyze” the requirements—requirements that were already crystal clear in the documentation provided. This was clearly a tactic to extend billable hours without making meaningful progress.
At one point, it became obvious that the freelancer had no intention of improving their work or respecting the deadlines. Instead, they tried to justify further delays by claiming the project was more complex than originally stated—a claim that was entirely unfounded, as the scope was outlined in great detail before the project even started.
As the missed deadlines piled up and the deliverables remained unusable, I had no choice but to terminate the contract. What should have been a straightforward project turned into a frustrating experience, wasting weeks of time and derailing the overall timeline.
This freelancer’s lack of professionalism, combined with their inability to follow instructions and their apparent attempt to maximize billable hours without delivering value, makes it impossible for me to recommend them.
