Project details

Get a cleaner, more reliable API that’s easier to maintain, test and build on as your application grows.

I help improve existing APIs that have become difficult to work with business logic scattered across views, inconsistent errors, missing tests, background jobs that fail silently, or a backend that becomes harder to change every time a new feature is added.

I’ll organize your backend so each part has a clear responsibility, make API responses predictable for your frontend and handle background tasks reliably. I’ll also add the authentication, permissions, filtering, pagination, admin tools and API documentation your application needs.

Testing is a major part of the work. My recent commerce project shipped with 557 automated tests running against PostgreSQL and Redis, giving me a strong focus on making sure changes don’t introduce new problems.

Whether you need to clean up an existing API, add new functionality, or build a stronger foundation for future development, I’ll focus on leaving you with a backend that is reliable and easier to work with.

About Oluwatobi

Oluwatobi O.Status: Offline
Django/DRF Engineer | E-Commerce Backends, Stripe, Celery, pgvector
Toronto, Canada - 9:13 am local time
I build reliable Python/Django backends for businesses that need more than a prototype, APIs that handle payments, inventory, customer data, background jobs and real-world traffic without becoming fragile.

My main work is Django + Django REST Framework, usually with PostgreSQL, Redis/Celery and a React or Next.js frontend. I can work on a new backend, improve an existing codebase or take a production system that needs to become more reliable.

What I've built

Multi-brand e-commerce platform: One Django backend powering multiple independent storefronts, with Stripe payments, inventory, shipping, refunds, customer accounts and an admin system. 557 automated tests run against real PostgreSQL and Redis.

SaaS matching platform: A lost-and-found platform using semantic matching to connect reports that don't use the same language. The system combines AI embeddings with structured signals to improve match quality and reduce false positives.

Client & event management portal: A centralized platform replacing spreadsheets, shared drives and scattered messages with client portals, event workspaces, documents, payments, vendor budgets and automated notifications.

How I work

I care about the parts of software that become expensive when they're wrong: payment flows, data integrity, retries, permissions, background jobs and failure handling.

I test against real infrastructure where possible, document important technical decisions and investigate edge cases instead of assuming the happy path is enough. In previous projects, this approach has caught issues that mocked tests didn't reveal including a currency conversion bug and a similarity calibration problem.

You'll get clear communication about what works, what has been tested, what I'm assuming and what still needs attention.
