About David
Software developer & Web Developer | Full-Stack Developer |JavaScript
Kigali, Rwanda - 6:43 am local time
In the summer of 2019, David joined the freeCodeCamp platform where I took the full-stack certification course which helped me to shapen my mind with technical knowledge including HTML5, CSS3, Sass, Javascript, NPM, Nodejs, Redux, Reactjs, React Native, MongoDB, and as well as the web designing skills.
After that certificate, David applied for the Andela Technical Leadership Program(ATLP) and he got selected after going through different stages which include a technical assessment where Andela provided us the Hackerrank tests to complete, again he passed through an online English assessment and he got through the interview as well.
This program was 9 months long and divided into four main parts which are three months of Bootcamp Phase, two months of Project Work Phase, three months of Apprenticeship, and one month of career workshop.
During the Bootcamp phase of the program, David acquired much knowledge where this phase started by introducing us to the professional skills used in this industry which include Git/GitHub, text editors, and the wireframe/designing tools like Figma, also introduced to us the project management tools like Trello, they also introduced the communication channels for us like Slack, etc...
In that phase, David built his branding/portfolio website with technology include HTML, CSS, Javascript on the front end, and Firebase as a database engine, he used also NPM for package management, and Mocha, Chai for integration testing. He gained many valuable skills in this phase and he managed to go to the next phase.
During the Project Work phase they divided all trainees into different groups, the team David was in it was supposed to work on a full-stack of Hotel management system where we were supposed to work on different aspects of that project include room bookings for users, trip/leave request for staff and many more.
In that phase, I gained many skills on both sides technical, social, and communication. On the technical side, I gained new skills in working on the backend where I learned a lot about working with MongoDB, Postgres for database, and Nodejs, Express for backend, APIs sides, also Reactjs as a frontend framework. And on the social, and communication sides I gained many skills as well.
During the Apprenticeship phase, it is where David got the opportunity to apply the skills he acquired on the real working project, also it was a chance to work with a large agile team and also a chance to work on the project that the end-users are using and got the feedback from them and work on them.
After that phase, David got a chance to enter the last phase of the program which is the Career Workshop phase where the Andelan expert helped us to go through what to expect in this career and how to behave/act in order to strive in this industry.
After this program, David worked for Image Rwanda as a full-stack developer for a period of 5 months. Image Rwanda is a startup company based in Rwanda. its idea is to help its users to sell/buy photos, videos, illustrations with the aim of telling the world the Rwandan culture through pictures, videos, illustrations. David's main contributions at Image Rwanda include codebase refactoring, re-implement the features to improve user experience, and mentoring the junior and intern engineers there. David also enjoyed working with a diverse agile team.
When David isn't coding he enjoys watching movies and playing Tennis and Volleyball.
